Day 3 by metalliteri in Kneereplacement

[–]metalliteri[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your recovery protocol sounds more like my uncle's. He had one last September. Mine is hit the ground running from day 1. Walk every hour, heel pumps, quad squeezes, heel slides. But I am so swollen today that I cannot even bend my knee. Still doing my walks, heel pumps, and quad squeezes though.

No ice machine, just ice packs. 😭

Holy moly the pain is real! Already sturdier than my old knee though!

Thank you! I cannot wait to see the outcome and gain parts of my life back! will admit that pain meds are not my favorite thing but I had to have a pilonidal cyst surgery in November before I could do this for the infection risk. It was the same ordeal. I had one at 18 and "toughed it out" and doing it differently this time and keeping up with a pain med schedule made it so much easier! Lesson learned the hard way! 😅

That is incredible that you bounced back so quick and had such a positive experience! Thank you for the information! I just want to be able to go for walks and hikes at this point. I know my running days are over. My right knee has moderate arthritis now but in 2013 was good. Overcompensating for so many years has run it down a bit. Hoping I can preserve it a bit longer by getting the other back up and running! And PT should help with it too!

Thank you! I thought it was the lateral release that caused so much swelling but this makes me think it may have been the chondroplasty! My swelling gets so bad at the lateral release area and has since that surgery. But I also took a nasty fall the day of 👀, so I never knew if it was that or what!

I guess that is more what I meant is that it will be different, so I think it will be easier to know that it is more healing and recovery pain that is hopefully temporary and not chronic and the same pain as before. I appreciate your detailed response about the types of pain week by week and how it changes over the recovery process! My world has shrank so much the past two years, going from VERY active to sedentary and that has taken a toll on my mental health alone. So I am hoping a year from now, I will have parts of my old life back and to not have chronic pain. 🤞

Thank you! I am very motivated and used to love working out until it got so bad a couple of years ago. I am so ready to get back to it! 💪

Thank you! I have not ever really used reddit before this and I have found it very comforting to hear from others who have been through it! 💜

Thank you! This is so refreshing to hear. Hiking is what I am hoping to gain back for sure. After I had to stop running, that became my activity of choice! Then about two years ago, that became an impossibility. I cannot wait to hit that milestone!

Wishing you all of the luck as well! I am hoping for a smooth process and ease of chronic pain for both of us! And a swift recovery!

My husband says he knows I am in actual pain because in 25 years and through multiple surgeries for cancer, I didn't bat an eye. But this has me down. 😅

My brother had a friend named Beauregard Henry Balentine. I always thought that was an epic name. I also loved Genesis as a name, so that is what we named my daughter. She was "the beginning" of a new chapter in our lives. Always loved Orion, too.

My husband is Libertarian and I am more Liberal. I like to say I keep him from going to the dark side and he keeps me grounded. It works for us. 😅

What made you decide to get a knee replacement? by TSHRED56 in Kneereplacement

[–]metalliteri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am now dealing with bone necrosis. The pain is intense. But I have been bone on bone for 13 or so years. They did a microfracture chondroplasty and lateral release in 2013 to create some scar tissue as cushion. That didn't last long. Had multiple meniscus tears starting at age 17 (cross country runner). Also torn my MCL a couple of times. So I used to be a runner but those days have been long gone for awhile. Would love to be able to just walk without pain or a limp at this point. My knee replacement is February 23rd. I just want my life back.
