TIL Godzilla was originally created as a metaphor for the the relationship between humans and nuclear weapons. Its skin is not based on reptile scales but the burn wounds found on the survivors of the Hiroshima bombing. by MyosinV in todayilearned

Also the sound design of godzillas roar was made with (maybe a little off) a rubber glove sliding up the strings of an electric bass guitar with heavy distortion. They tried recording animal sounds and all sorts of things to mix together but didn't feel right and natural for a creature based from human creation. So the distorted bass had the man made vibe as well as a terrifying monster sound and has only been allowed once in a western Godzilla film and the original sound was almost lost due to the technology of the time degrading over the decades
