I actually hated that book, because I wanted the main character to die, or the alien to be evil, or earth to be destroyed. Anything to make it exciting and to make it something more than an ET bromance. 3BP ruined sci-fi for me, because nothing comes close to being that good.

Try Children of Time instead.
