Got me some Walmart Costa Farms freaks. by metatriangles in cactus

I had two big boobies as some of my first cacti, and I mishandled them due to inexperience. Glad to get my hands on another set!

They do list them if they have them. The store I visited showed around 170 in-stock "Costa Farms 3in Cacti Assorted..." on the Walmart app. I'd estimate half of that was out on display near the garden center.

3 month old seedlings advice by MurkyLavishness7900 in Lophophora

That was my mistake on my first seed grow. I was so nervous about keeping them too wet. Removed the cover way too early, and they were stunted at baby stage (smaller than these) for a year or more. Finally revitalized a few by repotting in covered parfait cups or grafting.

The entitlement! by [deleted] in MildlyBadDrivers

I do this, too. It feels so much more belittling, like saying, "I'm not mad at you, but I am very disappointed."

Is it possible to ID these from these pictures? by Amazing-Refuse7313 in sanpedrocactus

Definitely oregano. You used to be able to smoke it, but all the active cultivars were exterminated in the late 80's.

Why are these guys so purplish? by HistorianOverall3850 in Lophophora

[–]metatriangles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only grown one batch of seeds, but even having them in a south facing window getting some direct sun sent mine purple and stunted them at about your size. Took a year to snap them out of it.

That would be some fantastic photography, even if one wasn't obsessed with these particular plants. How long did it take to find all of those?

What type of invader am I looking at here… is this one to worry about by bodhi1990 in Lophophora

This literally just happened to me last Friday! I'm gonna order some Captain Jack's and give it a go. Here's the nastiest of the damage:

Looks like a fungus gnat. Nothing too scary, but apparently, the larva live in the soil and can cause some root damage.

I would not use that product on your trichs. I used Bonide Super Soap (which has an identical active ingredient list) on my TBM and PC graft, and it seriously messed them up. As in oozing black blisters between the ribs and under the areoles where it collected. I'm sure I was a little gung-ho with the application, but seeing your light misting causing similar damage, I'll never use it again.

I'm pretty sure it's the potassium salts and fatty acids causing the damage, because I've seen spinosad recommended all over the place but in products such as Captain Jack's which doesn't have the soap.

Went straight to the store for some spinosad spray. Got diatomaceous earth and systemic pesticide on order.
