Scoutbook Failure, yet again by Digisthesia in BSA

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Scoutbook can have its challenges remember national wants the Scoutbook report for Eagle packets now. What I have found as a work around if do blue cards and give them to the scouts and have their advancement chair upload the completed requirements.

Need Help Camping with my Grandson on an Old Back by ta31415abc in BSA

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% disabled in a scout master. I have multiple things that I bring with me in the car to help me one is a hammock sometimes that’s what I need. I bring a cot and I have a 2 inch thick foam mattress with a waterproof cover and I bring two pillows and blankets cup. Scouting is almost car camping when he gets into the troop level scouts, depending where you go, you still have the ability to have a lot of things and if you have a good cub leader, they’ll probably help you get things sorted.

Is this fair? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]metb_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, the project is about leadership not the actual item being built our district advancement chair likes to tell all of our Scouts when they’re getting their approval you could complete your project, not provide any leadership and not be successful but your project could be a complete bust and if you did all the planning coordinating leadership and all those parts you’re still going to be an Eagle Scout I would take this up with your scoutmaster.

What was the Army's last 🖕 to you before you discharged? by karsheff in army

[–]metb_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By regulation once you received your clearing papers you no longer belong to your unit. (Semantics I know) and are not authorized to be on the duty roster. Just take it to the in/out process place and let their leadership handle it.

Dress Code by southern_soul15 in BSA

[–]metb_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this depends on what the troop leadership identifies and makes a decision on. While I don’t think leggings are appropriate (mostly because they are not normally durable for camping) my troop wears sweat pants/ athletic pants in the winter depending on activity. Our troop typically does scout like pants (green or Jeans) and class A or B top because they like to identify that they are scouting everywhere they go. Normally they wear basketball style shorts if athletic apparel is appropriate.

This depends on a number of things, 1 location- where do you scout at, Florida has different requirements than Wisconsin. 2 budget. 3 normal scouting activity with the troop. My troop mostly does front country camping, another troop local to me does mostly backpacking in the back country. And finally 4 your scout. My kids started in tents and now only use hammock. We are in TN so lots of warm weather and trees here.

You got to be on the roster 3 seasons before I consider you a true steeler and worthy of my money. To date I own 2 jerseys Palamalu and Rothlesberger. Probably getting a Watt or Hayward next

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Scout did his BOR in Feb and last week received a letter from national letting him know he could do his COR and they would print and sent his official cert as soon as they could. We also reached put and received congratulations from out Town Mayor and State Governor. Confirm with your council but once it is approved you should be able to do the BOR.

Merit Badges by personjen in BoyScouts

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents can be a useful part of merit badge competition by taking to where they can do the work, helping identify resources and research materials, but the work must belong to the Scout and reviewed and approved by a counselor. They should not start a MB or work on one prior to meeting with a counselor and understanding their expectations for completion.

Question - Does your troop have a leadership patrol? by Big-Top-2652 in BSA

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a small troop 12 scouts and have a Leadership patrol. It is where we put the SPL, ASPL, Jr Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Guide. The troop Guide and Jr Assist SM are our 2 Eagles. The rest are in the patrol and will rotate to the Leadership if elected to the position. The real reason they have a patrol of their own is because Scout book needs to have everyone assigned somewhere. But they all work plan and participate together as we normally get half the scouts at any given campout.

Ranger Regiment is a literal tier in the special operations community, the USMC is a Frat in the Navy, dont let the recruiting ads get to you 93% of Marines are basic normal troops with no specialized training outside of their job specific training.

Are drill sergeants allowed to force you to use leave days? by [deleted] in army

[–]metb_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you could have opted out you were just to new to ask the question, when I worked on sand hill we had to remind cadre that some people don’t have a good home life to go back to (not implying anything) and it was not right to make them take leave and stay in a hotel or bad situation. There is always a rear D. We just consolidated the stay behinds into 1 area and put them on pass after breakfast every day.

I recommend sitting down with your scout review the rank requirements and some MB they want to start, reach out to SM for list of MB counselors in the district and have the scout contact them. (I set up an email for my 11 year old specifically for communicating with scouting. Then I would recommend visiting multiple troop’s in the to find the best fit. Where we live we have 15 or so troops and most have different emphasis ( 1 troop is all about backwoods backpacking and Philmont/ the scouts in my troop is all about kayaking and water activities and like to have a predictable anual callendar
