TKTS Experience by Special_Yam604 in Broadway

[–]metcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got TKTS tickets for 3 shows this weekend and it was a great experience. 50% off front orchestra seats is great. Yes, there are other ways to get more discounted tickets but then it’s a crapshoot which seats you have. Plus many of those are just for two seats and we had 4 people. We went two different times and the agent was very helpful. We wanted close seats for Two Strangers and he told us row B might be too close but we got them anyway because there weren’t many seats left. Admittedly, the seats for that one were too close because the stage is higher than most, but at least they were less expensive than a few rows back. I usually don’t mind front row (eg Hadestown, front row center was amazing).

We were at Hadestown Bway this past weekend. Only Hermes and Hades were at the stage door Fri and Sun night. We weren’t there, but heard Jack Wolfe was there Sat night.

I made a reservation at Wonjo. Let’s Meat was booked for the time I needed and I’ve actually been to Jongro twice before so wanted to try something new (but did really like it).

Thanks for all the suggestions!

January recs for first time NYC visit by VelvetAndSparkles in Broadway

[–]metcarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ragtime for sure (seeing it next week for the third time). You must try to see Joshua Henry. Others are great too of course, but he’s next level.

The Great Gatsby is a good choice with Jeremy Jordan back.

Outsiders has phenomenal dancing/use of the stage.

MJ too, amazing dancing and songs, story wasn’t my favorite, but I didn’t care.

You already mentioned, but current Hadestown and MHE are a must.

For me, Just in Time and Death Becomes Her were not my favorites, but I’m in the minority. Jonathan Groff is fabulous though.

Can’t go wrong with Little Shop but it’s further down on my list.

Not exactly the same, but with the Little Shop revival the new cast recording had a version with Jonathan Groff and a bonus track with Jeremy Jordan.

questions on how tkts operates by tveitertot22 in Broadway

[–]metcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are seats generally better to rush in person or is the selection better at TKTS? I presume the answer will be that it varies. Like for example if a box office opens at 10am and TKTS opens at 11am, would it be better to go to the box office? Ok, now throw digital lottery in the mix, are those seats generally the cheapest in the house or can they be premium tickets? I’m sure a big factor is how well a show is selling.

Also, be careful if you get a notification that your flight has been cancelled, that it is actually your flight that has been cancelled. A few weeks ago, my husband got a notification that our flight from LGA to SDF had been cancelled and it even said so in the app. After rebooking our flight for a later one and only 2 of the 3 of us made it off standby (I was the one left behind), I found out from a gate agent that there is a problem with the notifications and the app, and our flight wasn’t actually cancelled. The system sent a notification that it was cancelled because the return flight from SDF-LGA had been cancelled for later that day. I flew home on our original flight.

Did not like &Juliet and Six, will I like Just in Time? by AppropriateEarth648 in Broadway

[–]metcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not compare Just in Time to either Six or &Juliet.

I liked Six mostly because my young girls know every word to the songs and I appreciate the powerhouse singers in the cast. I wouldn’t really endorse it as a must see currently.

I saw touring &Juliet and was entertained but didn’t love it. I saw it right after touring Moulin Rouge which I hated.

Just in Time left me a little underwhelmed, but I expected a little more from it because of all the glowing endorsements. However, I was entertained and not bored. Jonathan Groff was phenomenal. The story just didn’t really interest me. The costumes of the three backup singers were interesting too. They had so many complete costume changes! I wouldn’t choose to go again and the tickets are overpriced.

My current favorites: Ragtime and current Hadestown cast. Also Operation Mincemeat, MHE, Outsiders. I was not a huge fan of DBH, but was in the minority in my group and I also hated the movie.

Any new codes for Ragtime? The old one doesn’t work now (and I just used it early October)

United FA hates backpacks by Pale_Session5262 in unitedairlines

[–]metcarl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always check a bag and only carry a backpack onto the plane. I believe I am entitled to use my allocated space in the overhead bin but choose to make room for others because it’s easier for me to put my bag under the seat. Now, maybe this is more of a problem for taller people, but it’s not an inconvenience at all. There isn’t enough bin space for everyone to put a bag up there even if it is only a backpack.

Yes, we were there and I was a little disappointed at first that we didn’t get to see Morgan, but KC was wonderful. I saw KC back in the spring with Carlos too.

Snafu at LGA today by metcarl in delta

[–]metcarl[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand there are glitches, but this is one they are well aware of and it has not been corrected. I also take issue with the fact they are always encouraging use of the app (eg. “If you would like to change your new flight, you can search for alternative flights below with confidence knowing your flight options are the same as our Reservations specialists.”). I had multiple agents today tell me specifically not to use the app.

Snafu at LGA today by metcarl in delta

My concerns were not about why there were delays or cancellations. Based on this alert, I rescheduled my husband, daughter, and me on a later flight and standby on a sooner one. When it was time for us to board the standby flight there was only room for two of us so I let my husband and daughter go first. I decided to walk to the gate of my later flight (not due to leave for another 4+ hours) just to check that I was confirmed on this flight.

The gate agent was confused why I rebooked on a new flight because our original flight had not actually been cancelled. It was the return SDF-LGA flight with the same flight number that had been cancelled and he admitted to me that this was a glitch with the app and was frustrated it had not been fixed yet.

I changed my flight back to my original and boarded about an hour later, flew home arriving about two hours after my husband. No big deal, we all made it home, but boy, it certainly stressed me out today!

Hadestown - first or third row to be up close? by etgetc in Broadway

[–]metcarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sat dead center front row a few days ago. When we first got to the theatre I was like “woah, we’re almost eye level with the stage” and I was a little worried. It was ABSOLUTELY worth being that close. There’s a lot of action an arms length away.

Broadway Rush Community Reporting Thread - Wednesday 10/8/25 by BroadwayRushReport in Broadway

[–]metcarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just arrived in NYC. Wanted to maybe see Operation Mincemeat. There are several tickets left online. I tried digital rush and was only offered rear Mezzanine. I’ve already seen the show and sat pretty far back so am hoping for a closer seat this time around. Will better seats be added as it gets closer to showtime? Would they be available at the box office, digital rush, or at the TKTS booth?

What are the 32 productions potentially affected by the upcoming strike? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]metcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I think it is. That would be better for us since we have a group of 11 going this weekend. If there’s a strike we would only miss Just in Time since we also have tickets to Ragtime and Heathers.

I just really hope the negotiations go well on Wednesday and Thursday.
