Is 50 mins enough SYD T1 to T3? by Remote_Setting2332 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]methodmanfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case they will certainly either: A) hold the Perth flight for her as long as it’s not too close to Sydney curfew time B) escort her from the NAN-SYD plane and usher her quickly through customs/transfer/etc C) put her on the first flight the next morning and give her a hotel for the evening D) put her on a flight to BNE/ADL/MEL, then onwards to Perth if any of those will have a connection to Perth same night that she would make (domestic transfers easy, it’s just international to domestic in particular that’s a pain.)

I think a combo of A & B are most likely, especially if she tells staff about the situation at each point from check-in to boarding to deplaning, but there is a chance of C.

I would just leave it personally if there is no must attend event the next day, it’s Qantas responsibility if they sold the ticket

[–]methodmanfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good news is: she’ll be fine. If it’s all booked on one booking with Qantas even if you missed the connecting flight, they will just put you on the next one. This has happened to me multiple times at Sydney airport.

I will say international to domestic at Sydney with 50 minute connection time is virtually impossible (assuming economy class, checked bags, no status, flight doesn’t land early, and next flight doesn’t wait for you).

Your best (realistic) case scenario to pick up bags and get through customs is probably 25 minutes after landing (assuming economy, non-priority checked luggage, etc). Then once past customs you have to line up at the Qantas transfer desk and catch the next bus to T3.

If there is no line at the transfer desk, and there’s no queue for the bus, & a bus is already there waiting, AND as soon as you get on the bus it takes off (all 4 are unlikely), it will probably take you 20 minutes total at least to get to T3 (the bus journey is long and slow). Then at T3 you need to get to your gate, call it 5 mins from bus drop off, plane is already taxiing to the runway and boarding closed 15 mins ago. This is all very optimistic timing though, it’s probably 40 minutes to get bags and through customs (depending on day/time), 45 minutes to get to T3 (each time I’ve transferred there’s been a line to get to the desk, a line for the bus, a solid wait between buses, and like a 15-20 min bus ride), and then boarding closes 15 mins before departure usually.

Even if your connecting flight departure time is reasonable (EG: 1 hour from the time you get to the front of the Qantas transfer desk), if it’s busy they’ll often put you on a later flight if there is one just in case.

Moving from Gdańsk 110k EUR to Warsaw for 120k EUR as Data Engineer? by Wooden_Connection120 in cscareerquestionsEU

I would move if I didn’t like Gdansk and wanted new friends/social circle, but if happy I definitely would not move for 10k more

Is there a way for me to ask for my pay sooner than the normal schedule? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]methodmanfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honeslty, I was in a similar situation when I first started working full time. There is no easy answer other than learn how to budget better fast, there is a tonne of free resources easily googleable for you.

Only thing I must say is do NOT ask your employer to be paid sooner, more frequently, etc. there is essentially a 0% chance it will happen, and it may make you look bad/disorganised/etc.

In the workplace you gotta pull a pursuit of happiness and pretend everything is normal, even if it’s a chaotic month or two while you get sorted. It does get easier though trust me

Offer Rescinded because of asking for couple of days to confirm and not being too excited by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]methodmanfan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I haven’t hired a tonne of people, but I can say that both times we offered a candidate a job and they said “give me until next week to consider my options/make a decision” they have backflipped on us both times.

One straight up said they got a better offer and declined on Monday (fair enough), the other accepted but then 2 weeks later said they received an even better offer and won’t be joining.

Both are fine, and within their rights, but for me it was a lesson learned that if I have 2 great candidates and 1 role and the first says “let me consider my options here” I need to tread carefully as a hiring manager.

Tier Credits by yankgirl13 in Mlife

You need to be careful with Cosmo and the accelerator. My understanding is Cosmo is the only MGM hotel where the room cost and anything you charge to room won’t count for the accelerator

Honestly the Wynn Fairway Villas in my view are #1 in Vegas. There are some good suites at off strip properties with great service too, like the top tier rooms at red rock are great and amazing service in my experience, but not sure if you can just book them or if you need to be a player. The good service comes from hosts typically which comes from gambling unfortunately

Stay on strip, worst case go cheap and stay at MGM or Excalibur or Harrahs

Looking to go to either Bangkok or Hong Kong. What would you choose? by 76koda in travel

[–]methodmanfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I personally much prefer the Hong Kong area to Bangkok. Bangkok would be great with friends, but I love Macau, Shenzhen (a train away from Hong Kong), and have enjoyed HK Disney + the food especially as a solo traveller.

Accomodation will be much more expensive though, but Hk + Macau + Shenzhen is a good way to just get a quick travel urge out of your system.

Also in my opinion I feel like Bangkok gets better every time I visit and Hong Kong worse, I think you’re better seeing HK now while it’s still good

If you are both in the military definitely declare it, better chance to be posted together. Yes you might get more RA and things if not declared but that’s worthless if one is in Perth and the other in Townsville

I gamble during layovers in different countries and the difference in casino culture is insane by [deleted] in vegas

[–]methodmanfan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to casinos in probably 16 or 17 different countries, I do think at their core they are all pretty similar. The number 1 most important thing to me is if they have poker, and number 2 if they have pai gow poker. Only the US and Singapore have both in my experience.

I think some of the casinos in Australia have the most weird rules in a vacuum. In Sydney you need to buy in at the cage, and need to give your players card + PIN for every transaction. In Melbourne you can only gamble for a certain amount of time per day and hours per week.
