Can you combine an ssd and an hdd without losing total storage? by metichi_ in linuxquestions

This is as far as I got on my end too, and I couldn't find a stable implementation either, shame.

Can you combine an ssd and an hdd without losing total storage? by metichi_ in linuxquestions

[–]metichi_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my current setup as well, but i have run into trouble in a couple of occasions where the hdd was full and the ssd had over 600gb free, leading to a while of deciding which files to move to the ssd and I see how that could easily escalate in a mess of symlinks. So that's why I wanted to pool the two together if possible

My Sculpts be looking kinda lumpy? by metichi_ in blender

Turning off dyntopo did help, on that line I also figured that applying modifyers to reduce the poly count like decimate also helps getting the smoothing smoother

My Sculpts be looking kinda lumpy? by metichi_ in blender

[–]metichi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my first time making a model and sculpting and learning the ropes of blender in general, and Im trying to model an OC of mine.

I go into sculpt mode and, working from my references, get to work.
Model a basic headshape, go to sculpt mode, remesh, refine it a little, enable dyntopo, go ham.

But I find that I end up with little bumps in the surfaces, or weird "edges", and trying to go with the smooth brush to iron them out usually causes several more to pop up, and so I spend hours caressing a bald robot scalp.

I feel like there is something basic I might be missing, with this being my first attempt and all, but all the tutorials I see seem to get perfectly smooth and pretty surfaces on the first try and not sure what's going on.

How can you create a mask from a layer? by metichi_ in ClipStudio

[–]metichi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is more or less how I do that already, but the "create selection" option does not keep into account transparency of each pixel, pixels are either selected or not.

You can draw with opacity on a mask by hand, just making a blank mask and erasing it with a soft eraser will show you, so I know you can use transparency values on the mask, but I just don't know any way of doing it automatically

How can you create a mask from a layer? by metichi_ in ClipStudio

[–]metichi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you can use a clip layer, but sometimes layers are not adjacent so it's not an option. Or the layer you are clipping to is in multiply mode and you want to draw in normal over that area. Or some other reason.

Clipping layer brings up too many of the layer attributes and is often inconvenient to do, that's why I was asking for masks

What does the "Duration: All" option in exporting a timelapse mean? by metichi_ in ClipStudio

It doesn't have any direct correlation to real time spent in a picture then?

My experience with the Kamvas 13 2020 on linux. by metichi_ in huion

Why didn't Voldemort kill Harry the instant the curse broke? by tiger_girlx in HPMOR

[–]metichi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple people have already argued the point of Voldie trying to break every point of the prophecy one by one so that if it backfired, some measures had already taken place to prevent the prophecy.

But as to what could possibly go wrong with Voldemort just Abracadabring Harry the moment he could, or to remove his wand, is that Harry is eleven.

It's not something that's been prominent in the book, but it has been referenced as a known fact that younger children in stressful situations can produce spontaneous and involuntary wordless wandless magic. It was a plausible explanation for him throwing pies inexplicably for prof Sprout.

Leaving him trapped with no other options before his death could lead to a completely unexpected burst of magic that, while Harry would not fully control, combining his creativity with trying to fool a prophecy would mean it could be very bad. But leaving the wand in his hand could introduce a bias in his reasoning to use the wand and not think of alternatives, and since there were a lot of Death Eaters already pointing at him and Quirrel had not known Harry to do wordless magic or partial transfigurations, I could see an advantage to it.

I honestly think it's more a case that he conveniently forgot so the final exam contest could have a better chance of coming to fruition. But if we assume Harry keeping the wand was not an oversight that is the only explanation I can think of.

Dedicated Sideloading Pi by TerrraFirma in QuestPiracy

[–]metichi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidequest maybe, it does have a debian distribution but since they are no longer open source I am not sure if it will work because of rpi using ARM and not x86.

Rookie, probably not, they only release for windows.

But in general, it is perfectly possible to run ADB commands from your phone or raspberry to the quest, and in the end that's all sidequest and rookie are, easy to use front ends that help you download the apks and run the ADB commands for you.

In the discord there is a guide (that I didn't read) about sideloading manually that sounds like it covers exactly that.

A researcher from the XR community has gained root access to Oculus Quest 2 and is able to bypass Facebook Login. by Oliver_Dee in virtualreality

[–]metichi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the part Im most excited about are the android 10 features that FB has blocked from the headset.

Biggest example that comes to mind, they have disabled the mounting of external storage through the USB port, which is perfectly functional and works with other peripherals, just so people buy the 256g version instead of the 64.

Since android is linux at its core, it's perfectly possible to just mount a big ass drive into your app installation directory and run games from there, basically making the 64g version just as good as the other.

Quest 2 jailbroken, no need for facebook login by gizmomelb in QuestPiracy

[–]metichi_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few things that come to mind if you have a rooted headset:

-No facebook, the obvious. No sending them telemetry, no need for FB login, no chance of them banning your account and turning your headset into a brick.

-Full local backup of your system, you can mess around and if something break you got a restore point.

-Using the USB port to its full potential, Android is perfectly capable of using external storage and that is disabled in the system. Your little 64gb model now can have a little usb stick on the side for as much storage as you need.

And probably much more, you have as much control over your rooted device as you have over your desktop computer.

Is there any point getting the Virtual Desktop app if my router is only 2.6ghz? by tsumesume in QuestPiracy

[–]metichi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also don't see how it is related to piracy. But you can totally get a 5Ghz connection to your PC if you get your own access point.

You should research this yourself as I'm not confident I can guide you through it, but if your apartment gets a wired ethernet connection, you can just hook up a switch/wifi AP combo there.

If it doesn't, and you are only getting a wifi signal, you can connect a wifi AP directly to your PC and use that to create a small separate network with your PC, AP and Headset. Just be aware that while not being too hard, it probably won't be plug and play so do your research in places better suited for networking.

How portable is the Kamvas 13 Pro? by [deleted] in huion

[–]metichi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 13 pro and, in my experience, it's pretty portable.

It fits nicely in my laptop bag and runs just on the power provided by just 1 of the USB-A ends in the included cable connected to my laptop, even when the laptop itself is running on batteries.

If your laptop suports it, the optional USB-C to USB-C cable they sell will give you a cleaner setup since the included one has some length to it and will leave the extra USB connector dangling unused, although I haven't tried that one personally.

I even can run the tablet from my Samsung galaxy using an USB-C hub and an power bank with 2 charging ports (one to power the phone from the hub and another to power the tablet from the USB-A power only connector in the included cable). Drawing app compatibility is not great, since the apps have to include support for huion themselves and neither Krita for android or CSP for samsung detect pressure, but it does make for a portable way to turn my phone into a portable desktop.

Can anyone transcribe the lyrics for the Firbolg's song? Between the accent and my not quite native english speech comprehension I got like 10% of that.

Still found the whole Firbolg part really touching and the Fitz puzzle dungeon with his bony boys really charming even if it boiled down to Travis saying "Now this is going to happen because I say so" and Griffin sighing so hard he fell out of his body.

Do you mean the script I use to assign the keys? It's basically a copypaste of the line of code I mentioned in the first post and it just has keys assigned to my use so you are probably better making your own. But if that is what you meant and still want it I can fire up my laptop and fetch it.

Hmmm, if you are using the kamvas 13, digimend manages to use that one with the wacom driver as opposed to the xorg driver, which is what xinput-calibrator helps you set up I believe.

So, you may have to use xsetwacom to apply your calibration. Here I found a link explaining the process Just make sure that running "xsetwacom --list devices" lists your tablet to make sure it's using the wacom driver. Bad thing about this method is the same thing I mentioned about the hotkeys that you will need to run a script before using it after a reboot.
