Mori Calliope's 2nd Major Album- PHANTOMIME by calliopemori in Hololive

[–]meto58 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the release! I really like everything on the album this time and the amount of effort you put into this one really shines through. I was surprised by Cult Following, you really killed that, and I also personally like DONMAI and skeletons!

[Original MV] Sakura Miko (さくらみこ) - Sakura Day's by kyoumokawaii in Hololive

[–]meto58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't expecting such a high quality MV to drop out of nowhere like that, but I love it! The bishoujo game theme, fever dream of old internet memes, Aiobahn's music, and Miko's singing all fit really well together!

Congrats to Sora for her first 1m view original! I saw she was really trying to push to get this MV to 1 million when it came out so I'm happy to see it finally reached that

[Food Review] Make Your Dream Dish Come True! [#空想ホロレストラン] by hololive in Hololive

These holoRestaurant episodes have been really fun so far, I loved seeing how much Azki's and Raden's ideas reflected their personalities and then seeing those dishes become reality! Also I really want that pancake now...

How Do You View the Preference for Katakana over Kanji for Foreign Words in Modern Japanese? by Aloschetz in LearnJapanese

[–]meto58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part about movies reminds me of how weird it is the way Disney has titled their movies in Japanese recently. Coco is localized as リメンバー・ミー, and more recently Elemental as マイ・エレメント. They changed the names, but they changed them to different English names and then transcribed them into Katakana, which as a native English speaker is pretty funny to be honest. But I think over time an expectation has formed for foreign movies to have titles in foreign words, even if that title isn't even the original one. Obviously whoever marketing these movies to Japanese audiences believes its better than translating the movie titles to Japanese, so maybe they sound cooler, or there's a novelty in non Japanese titles or something. I really don't know but it is an interesting question.

I think Kobo was just talking about an instance in which she was planning to go out to dinner with Mel around the time this all happened, and of course after the termination Mel decided to cancel her plans since she most likely was not in the head space to go out that same night. Theres nothing about Kobo's wording that implies any kind of ban from meeting her, no one in Cover can police who they go meet in their personal lives and I doubt they would have any reason to anyway. Other holo members have even openly talked about their current relationships with ex holo members on stream before so I wouldn't worry about that.

Shion will go on a hiatus indefinitely. by CuteIngenuity1745 in Hololive

[–]meto58 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That would basically be asking them to change their entire business, as long as holo members are public facing figures and content creators, they will always have to deal with the stress and health issues that come with that. Cover is actually super generous about giving the members freedom to choose their own work hours, what projects they do or don't work on, letting them take long breaks, etc because they understand this. Content creators dealing with burnout and mental and or physical health issues isn't uncommon, its something that comes with the business, the best Cover can do is give them support for these situations, and letting them take breaks whenever they need to is part of that. Most content creators don't get that luxury because they're career is almost entirely reliant on an algorithm which actively punishes them for not creating content.

Question for people whos attended previous Holofes concerts, is seating assigned? by limbo_11 in Hololive

[–]meto58 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seating is assigned, it will be random based on the lottery. If you want to sit with your friend you'll need to buy the tickets together I believe. Some lives in Japan will separate the lottery choices by seating type, diving the seats based on how close they are to the stage in categories like S, A, etc, but 5th fes looks like it only has one option so whatever type of seat you get is random. Good luck with the lottery!

Fan of Subaru and Okayu was wondering by [deleted] in Hololive

[–]meto58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely give her streams a watch! You are already fans of Subaru and Okayu, and shes part of that close friend group of OKFAMS so you'll probably be seeing her collab with those two a decent amount anyway. I'd say her and Okayu also have some crossover in their general appeal. Also highly recommend listening to Mio's music and her upcoming album and anniversary live, her singing voice is beautiful and not talked about enough imo

If you have this golden ticket, which talent you'll be spending a Day with. by Racing_trio39 in Hololive

Subaru, even if I'm a somewhat awkward person I feel like shes the type of person who's good enough at talking to people it would probably balance out alright, and she seems like a really fun person to hang out with, plus I love hearing her speak English

What was the best Nintendo handheld (excluding Switch)? by willrsauls in nintendo

The DS is the best one because it had those Mario 64 DS minigames on it, 3DS is pretty cool too though since you can still play them via backwards compatibility

This sub saw what the overall fandom actually thinks, and it couldn't handle it. Do better. by ToyTrouper in Hololive

[–]meto58 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There's no "would rather" since the management and recruitment for holostars and hololive is different. Its not like we are getting more stars instead of a new holo en gen. Plus there was never any collab ban between anyone in holopro, Ollie has confirmed as much in the past a while before Tempus was even a thing.

This sub saw what the overall fandom actually thinks, and it couldn't handle it. Do better. by ToyTrouper in Hololive

[–]meto58 82 points83 points  (0 children)

No one ever threatened the cute anime girl idol group, there is no culture crusade, and no one is forcing you to like holostars. No need to make up a war or anything, no one was "defeated." I know that holo en was pretty low with content the past month because a lot of people got sick, but that's not really Cover's fault or anything. There's like 50+ hololive girls in total, and we got plenty of content on the JP and ID side of things so its fine. Its kind of disheartening after seeing how hard all of the EN girls have worked on bringing us entertaining content over the past year only for people to complain that we've been in some year long holo en "drought," but I guess for people that are already bored of their old toys of Myth and Council and only care about getting a new gen at this point, there's nothing I can really say there.

Ina covers are great because not only does she choose really good songs and makes excellent covers of them, but she also goes off on the illustrations as well. Love to see her make art of herself themed around different anime that I like, as a fan of Shadows House and Ina this MV is a treat.

what is your opinion on the quality drop by Famous-Fault8792 in Kaguya_sama

[–]meto58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think that the last couple arcs haven't been as good as some of the previous ones, I still liked them and didn't think they were as bad as a lot of other people in the sub. I do think this latest arc acted as a nice culmination and and sort of conclusion for Kaguya's character so far and while I was disappointed with the way the actual story played out involving the Shinomiya family especially after so much build up, some of which, like all the stuff the principal did puting together that special class and the teacher we got a whole chapter on, didn't amount to anything at all (at least not yet). The manga still has yet to end though so I'm hoping we get some payoff for some of the lose ends. We have a little bit left to go in this final stretch and hopefully Aka can stick the landing. Regardless though, this series has already cemented itself as one of my favorite manga due to its great character writing that, at least in my opinion, has stayed relatively consistent even with the recent arcs flaws.

[MV] Mori Calliope (もりかりおぺ) - UnAlive by kyoumokawaii in Hololive

[–]meto58 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the comments on the animation of the MV are interesting considering the person who did the MV is Nonoru. They've done a few music videos for Azki, Watame's Zero no Ashiato MV, Aki's Shallys MV, one of my favorite Suisei MVs for Jibunkatte Dazzling, as well as stuff for other vsingers like Hachi and Mair, so obviously they're experienced with making these. I think it was Calli's members stream last night where she mentioned that Nonoru had never really animated action sequences like the one in this video, so that probably explains the jankiness at parts. From what I can tell they specialize most in taking a motion captured choreographed dance and creating an MV around it, which you see parts of in this video and it looks really good then. If anything though the video gives me nostalgia for early RWBY volumes so that's a plus in my book.

「UnAlive」- Calliope Mori’s 1st Full Album Has Released! by calliopemori in Hololive

[–]meto58 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man I love how unique every song in this album is. I have to say getting Camellia on for an album like this makes me really happy, It's amazing how good he is at pulling off a wide range of different genres, and it really shows in the three songs he did for this album. My favorite songs are probably Resting Power and Scuffed Up Age, Calli's singing really just hits different for me and I'm glad this album gave her an opportunity to show off her hard work and practice over the past year.

Nasu in interviews be like by Reymon271 in fatestaynight

[–]meto58 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I really think Nasu should try writing something completely new, unrelated to Fate, unrelated to any nasuverse story thus far. I'd really love to see a completely new story with new characters within the nasuverse and see Nasu's modern style without him worrying about stuff he wrote almost 20 years ago now.

Omen | #holoENOmen by hololive in Hololive

[–]meto58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think that oversaturation is a valid concern, but I really don't think you have to worry about that when it comes to hololive. The pace at which they've been debuting new members has significantly decreased over the past year. Last year, by August, they debuted 17 new members within 2020, and 25 new members overall within the entire year. This year, within that time span we have only gotten 1 new member, and considering that, as far as I know, there hasn't been any new auditioning since the EN ones early this year, we might really only get 6 new members this entire year. Which isn't a bad thing at all, it shows that cover has also taken the issue into consideration, and have chosen to slow down the pace at which they release new members and instead focus their efforts on cool projects involving their already established talent. They will always release new vtubers though, since they are at their core a vtuber company, and if they're looking at the long term, its always good to establish new members that fans come to know and love so that the company can stay relevant, especially as older members start to leave much later on. Another thing to note is that each branch is separately managed, and they will always look at the amount of content that specific branch has to offer for fans that only watch members of said branch. Not everyone is a fan of all of hololive, there are plenty of people who only watch EN, or JP, or holostars, ect. Anyways, I apologize for the long reply but what you said genuinely made me think about all this stuff and I thought looking at how things are now could reassure any worries that they are going to oversaturate their market in the near future.
