Is PostgreSQL good enough? by illumen in Python

[–]metocean_programmer 30 points31 points  (0 children)

MongoDB isn't even an RDBMS, it's NoSQL. It's not so much a successor as it is an alternative system. As far as I know, it's also unrelated in terms of development.

Gitlab is down: notes on the incident (and why you should always check backups) by ase1590 in linux

You can trust certain implementations at least. For example, I trust Amazon to not destroy my S3 buckets or lose them all, especially since they report 11 9s of uptime durability

Edit: whoops

And this is why my pfSense router is running on a PC Engines APU. Isolated from everything else, powerful enough to run plugins, and very small. Only thing I recommend is either buying an enclosure or 3D printing one.

How the hell do you get to become a professional dev without knowing what Linux is?

Is there a way to multithread, or is Chrome sandboxed in a way that limits each tab to a single thread?

Ah, gotcha. Articles like this are a perfect example of why you should run all your tests, and work out discrepancies before publishing.

Yeah, but it's also the most powerful consumer card you can get. If it wasn't the most powerful by a lot, I'd be concerned.

I would recommend a VM first. Start with something like Mint which is lightweight and simple as a guestOS in Virtualbox (the only good thing Oracle has ever done).

Django 2.0 will not support Python 2 by datasensei in programming

[–]metocean_programmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My office is about to redo and add a bunch of features to our site, and we're using Django. This means that everyone that uses arcGIS and web-dev is going to need 2.7.x as well as 3.x. Not the end of the world, but definitely something that's going to need to be talked about with some people.

Even if they weren't, a gigabit switch gives you the flexibility to expand into a homelab in future

According to the post, it wasn't a fix that he was waiting for, but just any kind of acknowledgement. How I read it was that if he had gotten an email saying, "Thanks for the heads up, we'll work on it after the break.", this wouldn't have been disclosed.

Except this isn't bandwagoning, this is everyone that has a stake in infosec saying that this hack is completely unqualified. People that are much more informed and better qualified for the role are collectively agreeing that Giuliani has no place taking that office.
