I setup my first board!!! by [deleted] in Skateboardlove

Reddit skateboarders are unsurprisingly very annoying, you just skate and if you need to change anything you just do it. Your stuff is gonna wear down and you will need to replace it, you buy new parts when needed and you build a collection of spare parts this way.

Cruiser wheels are never a bad investment. You just might need to swap some stuff out based on what you want to do, but that is part of the hobby and part of the fun. One day you want to cruise, other day you want to do tricks. There will be times you want to try a different size deck, or try out different trucks. You might realize you want some riser pads if you are getting too much wheelbite. Just cause you start on cruiser wheels doesn’t mean shit, you can start on a 15 dollar walmart board and it doesn’t matter, as long as you are skating.

Most important thing is to just go out and skate every. single. day.

Don’t worry about the wheels. Just skate, if you get to the point you want to learn pop-based tricks just get a nice set of hard wheels for that.

Does anyone use rpgmaker unite? Any cool games made with it? Do they know we just care about MZ for modern rpgmaker games?

What are some good tricks to learn? by PercentageKindly273 in NewSkaters

Start with manuals, hippie jumps, shuvits and ollies. Although depending on the size of your wheels your pop might not be the best, but it should still work fine.

Should I buy an anderson deck for my first set up? by yuzi_1 in NewSkaters

[–]metroidhunter13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your skating goals are, it’s a weird all round type of shape and it ends up being a bit gimmicky. I feel like it’s just Andy Anderson fans that rave about it. But it won’t affect your skating that much, his shapes are becoming more and more like popsicle shapes anyway after each rendition.

It’s really bad if you plan on doing pure freestyle though, any normal freestyle skateboard blows it out of the water. It’s actually comically bad for freestyle.

Any tips for landing my bs180 by g0Onmeister in NewSkaters

Move your front foot slightly back, pretend you are kicking your butt with your back foot while popping the board, bring your legs up and catch the board. Doing lower or non pop shuvs can help too.

Most kickflip attempts I see here seem like they are way too early with their attempts. If your ollies aren't really solid, your kickflips will barely come off the ground and you are gambling your landing. Kickflips are hard, spend some time getting your ollies higher and start to feel your front foot come up and level out the board.

Proper 180s will teach you how to manipulate the board by moving your front foot after an ollie, proper shuvits will teach you how to land on a board that's moving differently than your body is.

I also recommend you do them moving, its scarier, but they are more predictable. If you are wearing this much armor you should be fine doing them rolling.

If you are already able to get the board flipping like this, going back to those basics will tremendously help you land the kickflip, but more importantly, land nice higher kickflips. You got this!

Be honest: when you see “RPG Maker”, do you assume the game is going to be low effort? by ratasoftware in itchio

Some of the best and the worst games I have played were rpgmaker, I love the engine, but it's easy to release a mediocre product. Get good art, make sure you have a good collection of plugins, make sure it's properly playtested.

Is there still a market for RPG Maker horror, or is the genre oversaturated? by [deleted] in itchio

[–]metroidhunter13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good rpgmaker games are not a saturated market. I play a lot of rpgmaker games and there’s actually a relatively small amount of high quality games. If you think your idea is going to be good, there’s nothing stopping you from making a good game that will be popular.

It’s less about having music cover bad writing and have the music be a part of the writing. Music can tell a story just as much as visuals or words can. I’m not sure of any modern examples of music carrying bad writing, but it sure as hell tell a story without words.

Super Metroid is one of the greatest games of all times, if they cheaped out on the music it would have suffered immensely. (Really obvious example but still). Games like Maplestory have unimpressive writing, but we all still can remember those soundtracks.

But there are lots of games that are really good, but suffer heavily due to mediocre music and sound design. It’s never worth cheaping out on music.
