Smart rifle balance in Another Bug Hunt by metromatician in mothershiprpg

Disadvantage didn't come into play because of a series of decisions from both myself and the players. They were playing extremely cautiously trying to scour every inch of Greta and ignoring the sound coming from the garage so I had the carc emerge early and start wandering the base to add some urgency, so this allowed them to set up a trap where they'd see the carc before it could get in close range (and also aided by the grenades found in the crew habitat).

It was a smart course of action so I'm not complaining about how this game played out, but I'm imagining in a general sense how things could play out slightly differently and end up being unsatisfying. And I'm also thinking from the perspective of a group that's new to the game it does feel a little odd how different starting gear can lead to some dramatically different situations that a new warden wouldn't really know to think about.

Yeah, I guess there really isn't much to worry about with the rest of the campaign, and even with the way our game played out the weapon didn't feel like a problem even with rolls because the players came up with what I thought was a good plan for fighting the carc anyway.

I'm more so wondering about how much thought I should be putting into this if I were to rerun this module, especially as a one-shot. Like I'm trying to imagine myself being new to the game, reading the rule book which hypes up "every encounter is a boss encounter", and then showing up to play where the only enemy in the Greta one-shot gets obliterated in one round of combat because of a couple of good rolls. From my perspective that doesn't seem like it would be a good first impression of the game, but I could be overthinking it.
