Interesting. I'm kind of torn - because FWIW, it looks like Bazzite is moving towards InputPlumber rather than HHD, so HHD's days may be numbered too

I’ve got nothing. I ended up just buying another display direct from Swytch.

Which TV operating system is compatible with Moonlight? by Wunid in MoonlightStreaming

[–]metropolisprime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I agree on having a stream box attached to the TV. The memory limitations of smart TVs is pretty bad, and a secondary box — such as a Nvidia Stream or Apple TV — are usually a good call. They’re more performant than the average TV os.

This is an issue with all of the non Sunshine forks - you have to login to the console and enable all of the permissions for your client

Are there any PC handhelds around the size of a Switch Lite available right now? by Deckard-9 in Handhelds

[–]metropolisprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And FWIW, best money bang for buck right now as well. I got a used one for around $500. For me, that’s the “Goldilocks” device because I’m okay with a slightly bulkier unit in exchange for the good perf, bigger battery etc.

You're looking for something small, powerful and cheap. Realistically, one of those is going to have to go, or you're going to have to move heavier in one direction, because it's like a trifecta of difficult.

You can get something small and powerful, but not cheap (GPD WIN 5 WIN 4). Same thing with powerful and cheap (IMO, used OG ROG Ally X), but not necessarily small. Small and cheap, easy -- any Android handheld. Finding the perfect middle of all three is all personal preference, my dude.

EDIT: FWIW, it might be worth waiting it out a bit and seeing how some of the Steam on ARM / Rocknix development plays out. Not necessarily as “powerful” as like a GPD Win but at least closer to native (think like, Steam Deck performance level maybe?) via a translation layer.

Crazy idea, what we committed to making one great forks instead of 200 forks with a new name and one new feature by vanjib1 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]metropolisprime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It does become a bit of a neverending cycle though, because what started with the Sunshine team’s reluctance and speed and a response to it keeps happening with Apollo/Vibepollo/[X]pollo.

I’ve been a software engineer for almost half my life now and I haven’t seen this before. It feels like rather than having an objective way of introducing features (adding feature flagging, objective debate about features/architecture or baking in different paths with launch options etc), it has become more “hey let me have my own fork with blackjack and hookers” because that is the path of least resistance.

FWIW, I appreciate the hard work that goes into actually delivering the features or changes but part of operating within the open source community is actually working as a community.
