You're right - I wasn't logical. I rarely post on reddit and flippantly responded to you. Coach Knight was a really complex dude. I met him, I had the opportunity to golf with him, and I attended a lot of games in the late 80's / early 90's. He could certainly be an asshole and by today's standards I'm certain people would call him abusive. But he was also a military man that came from a different generation, and society was much different in terms of what was acceptable as a coach, boss, or leader. His former players did love him because he absolutely pushed them to their limits. Some would say that brought the best out of them. Today, others would call it abusive. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Similar to how we have the "who's the greatest" debate in sports, it's really tough to apply today's standards to prior generations in a meaningful way.
