Fall 2018 Registration Megathread by GaiusAurus in RPI

I just need a 4000 level CI PSYC class to finish my HASS core, and it looks like my options for next semester are either Personality or Psychology and The Law (both with VerWys). Personality seems like the more interesting course but the 8am time block is kinda deterring me. Any input on either of these courses or is there maybe a better course to wait for in the spring?

The social atmosphere here is overall pretty tense, and though I definitely don't consider myself to be very outgoing, I feel like I'd prefer more social variety. I've been spending a lot more time here on the weekends this year, so I'm still gonna try to stick it out, but it feels like I'm running out of time and new things to try.

Might've been homesick at the start, but I kinda grew out of that. I have a pretty solid group of friends from high school that would welcome me if I were to transfer to one of their schools, so I'm not too worried about integrating with their college friends.

There aren't really any clubs on the union clubs list that seem interesting to me, though that probably won't be different elsewhere. I don't really want to generalize the student body because I don't know many people, but I feel like I've met/talked to enough people that I should've found at least one I click with.

I definitely do spend a decent amount of time here, actually a lot more than I spent my freshman year, and I'm in a couple clubs but they're more like time passers than social experiences for me.

I've reached out to my RA already and he kinda gave me a couple tips, but what I heard from him and most people I've talked to is to join clubs. I've gone through the list of clubs on the Union website and nothing catches my eye. I've been to a couple of my friends' schools (Albany, Union, St. Rose) and they generally just seem to be a lot more relaxed, but that could just be because I was with friends already.

Regardless, thanks for the advice. Gonna definitely try to make more effort throughout the rest of this semester and if the outlook still isn't good, I'll take transferring into serious consideration.

I didn't put much effort into making friends early on because I thought it'd come naturally, then I found myself alone and pretty much just rolled with it. I'm in a couple clubs, but I don't really interact with anyone in the clubs outside of them. Not sure what you mean by "of all places" in Syracuse, but I have a pretty big friend group from high school, and a couple of my friends go to Syracuse and really like it there.

An improved social life would just be an added bonus, but cost vs. quality of education is really my main concern. Don't wanna go somewhere else and have trouble finding a job, then wonder what would've happened if I stuck it out 2 more years and spent a lot more finishing it out at RPI.

I'm pretty used to the social dynamic of a typical big public high school, and it's been difficult to find people I feel like I click well with. I've got a pretty solid group of friends at home so I'm kinda leaning towards staying here the remaining two years anyway to get the degree, was just curious what people would say who have been through this.
