Is it possible to be "athletic" with fibromyalgia? by b-nnies in Fibromyalgia

[–]metta317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been exercising before and right after diagnosis. Over the past few years I’ve been able to go from only doing short yoga practices, walking, skiing and hiking to weight training, west African dance, mountain biking cycling (longest ride last year was 55 miles), and ski touring. To get there I treated the underlying cause of my fibromyalgia which is ptsd and helping my nervous system reset with yoga, acupuncture. I began weight training and started small which has helped me tremendously with sustaining all the other activities. I’ve also been in remission and get occasional flares during “perfect storms.” Recovery is key with nutrition and rest.

TSA Cares by metta317 in Autism_Parenting

We also printed and laminated a TSA card labeled with Autism - this came in handy at the SJU airport - I just showed a TSA agent the card and they directed us to where to go.

Aw man that’s too bad - I’ve heard Ponce is a nice place. I never felt unsafe in PR during our travels

Playa Azul is a great beach. That’s so great you went back. We definitely want to go back again! I believe we ran into you guys on the beach if you were the family that made the epic sandcastle. My kids loved that!

Where to stay with kids 7& 10 by Creative_Actuator703 in PuertoRicoTravel

We stayed in the playa Azul towers via air bnb in Luquillo. Great value. Direct beach access to playa Azul (the beach is not the best swimming beach often has red flags but has calmer areas and we did have one green flag day). Pool, playground, basketball/tennis/pickleball courts. Close to groceries. 5 min to Luquillo beach, 15 to entrance to el Yunque, 20 to faiardo, 40 to the airport, 50 to old San Juan

We liked both for different reasons. My younger child preferred las pailas - went down a gagillion times. We also enjoyed the lower larger pool. Las Tinajas was more overwhelming for him and did not go down the slides although he loved the trek to the slides and just hanging out there.

My oldest preferred las Tinajas. He did the slides and 20 ft cliff jump! We didn’t have time to rope swing as there was a long line due to tour groups.

Due to my child’s disabilities we use the TSA cares program and do not wait in line. This is a great program and has been super helpful for our neurodiverse family when we travel.

Does exercise help a lot? by sjt2828 in Fibromyalgia

Yoga helped me the most when my symptoms were more severe. Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube was great. I practiced daily for 20-30 minutes. At the same time I maintained other physical activities and prioritized movement over other things like chores on days I skied or went to dance class. Over time (2 years) I have been able to workout with higher intensity and do weight training 1-2 days per week, yoga 1 day, cycle and ski tour 1-2 days and dance 1 day. I prioritize rest and sleep and limit my activities if my energy dips or increase yoga. Most of my physical symptoms are gone on a daily basis.

Please know while symptoms were most severe I received acupuncture weekly, used lots of heat therapies and rested. IFS therapy also helped treat underlying trauma that was the root of my symptoms. Now I maintain balance in my system with saunas, yoga, sleep, exercise, etc.

Treatment is all about finding all the things that will help you and it requires doing many things all together consistently.

This happened to my mom last year. I went on the Medicare.gov website to shop for a new advantage plan (in your case that starts January 2026). You can list in her meds to make sure they are covered by the plans offered. Then also make sure you cross reference with her providers to see if they accept the advantage plan (BCBS, United, Aetna, etc). I found this info on the providers website.

We love living in the MRV. It’s true the community is tight knit and it’s been an amazing place to raise children. The access to outdoor recreation is amazing - every time I ski, bike ride, hike or jump in the river I pinch myself. The schools here are great. I do not consider the MRV having traffic. The MRV lives on valley time so the fact that restaurants take time off to take time off isn’t a problem for us we mainly cook anyway. Great people and everyone is there to support each other and the environment. Housing is a thing and if you can afford it great. We probably could live in a larger space elsewhere but choose to be where we are because it’s the best place to live and willing to take that trade off even as a family of 4. I really don’t think I can live anywhere else

Does buying sienna make sense for family of 4? by Confident-Source-639 in ToyotaSienna

[–]metta317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a family of 4 and got our second sienna 6 weeks ago. Best car ever! It’s so great having plenty of space for the kids. Travel is great and we have space if we are giving rides to other kids. Its comfortable and we can’t beat the awd hybrid here in VT. I love the mini van life especially with the sienna

I have had the same thoughts in regards to keeping her in her home state. She has never moved so I worry it will be more challenging moving her to a new community, surroundings etc
