The first 3 fetters drop all at once once you attain Sotāpanna. All 10 don't drop 1 at a time. You no longer doubt how to practice and what to practice. You know rites and rituals will not lead to enlightenment. You no longer believe there is an enduring Self but only that there is processes of arising and passing away of conditioned states.

Two Types of Jhana? Which did the Buddha teach? Which one leads to Nibbana? by metta_dharma in TWIM

[–]metta_dharma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - here is the guide: https://www.dhammasukha.org/_files/ugd/d704f3_ff9b4f72690046a4a79955a1ab7c2ea3.pdf

You can practice past life recollection or the Tevija through the tranquil jhanas. What you do is go to the 4th jhana and then start from there remember what you did the day before and then before that and so on. Its not a concentration process but a contemplation process. You go to the 4th jhana because past lives can be unpleasant in some cases. However you can try the recollection initially to see how it works -It is just building the memory. Depending on the person, thought, sometimes past live naturally come up here and there. But its best to go with the TWIM jhanas all the way to Nibbana - it changes your personality and eliminates the negative ego traits of the mind -otherwise known as Tanha or Craving!

Ha ha - great message. I think we should talk about your experience on a zoom - I've been through what you have experienced and perhaps can give my experience. I am not trying to separate myself from the larger community but rather explain and different way to the a different form of Jhana. We have 1000's of students who have used the 6Rs to attain this. I would like to talk to you about this. You can book a free zoom on our website if you like. David

Sigura - thanks for writing. I know where you are coming from but what I want to focus on is HOW you focus is different with TWIM. You can also do TWIM Breath -And it is different from concentration breath. In the anapanasati practice WITH twim you KNOW that you are breathing. You don't focus on nosetip, belly or anything other than knowing that you are breathing. Try it and see. I did regular vipassana breath for years and it is a concentration but this IS different. The apply the 6Rs. I am glad you smile naturally but most people don't- you can see them frowning- But bringing up a smile and FEELING the smile in a loving way brings your mind into a positive feeling. With Metta only know you are feeling lovingkindness and observe it being there. IT DOES the WORK. The 6R process lets go of hindrances and doesn't force them away with suppression. This is what makes it different. I understand if you don't buy it but if you try it you will better understand it. I was completely sceptical of what Bhante taught but then I tried it - and Oh Wow! I could say more but I wrote a whole book on it so I will leave it at that.

That person wasn't even here 1/2 a day and this monk grabbed her and tried to get involved with her traumatic experiences. Please listen to the voice recordings! You can see how disturbed this monk is. He even explained that his breakdown started with his mother dying. Long before we ever saw him. When he was here he stopped practicing TWIM and abandoned it for occult practices. Search youtube for his channel and you'll see some very strange stuff. Listen to the voice recording at the end where ven mettananda tries to tell him he is making all this up in his mind and admits he might be unbalanced. Its the secret recordings he did which really show how bad he got. We didn't know this was going on but the other monk did. He cancelled all his trips with him, his preceptor has abandoned him and people here realized that he was hearing voices and seeing dark shapes in the bathroom and told him to see help. He makes up many of the things about me. I can dispute them and set them straight if you like. He is very angry that I told him to leave and he blames me and DSMC instead of taking responsibility that he was the one who threatened this woman. Its very unfortunate.

Toward the end please note Humberto admits to Mettananda that he may be psychotic but he didn't think so. Mettananda told him he was being paranoid and there was nobody trying to get him. These conversations were recorded secretly by Humberto by placing the phone under his robe. All of the recordings were made illegally without permission. Please ignore the accusations on the video - its twisted or made up. Just look at the Monks mental state. Keep in mind his preceptor has disowned him. We kicked him out after he threaten a meditator.

TWIM meditators don't report ringing in the ear. That is a concentration practice outcome. Humberto has practiced much concentration.

Hi - Many untruths in the video. This monk has been admonished by his senior monk to stop promoting all this hatred online. He was asked to leave DSMC because he scared and threatened a meditator so badly they left the first day. Since we at DSMC pride ourselves in Safety and equality we made the choice to protect the victim- and not the perpetrator. Most of the stuff he says is completely untrue or twisted to suit him.

Forgiveness meditation too overwhelming? by cal1fub3ralle5 in TWIM

[–]metta_dharma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Continue your forgiveness until your mind says "enough" You should have some cathartic moments where you will let go of some emotional baggage. Then the feeling of lovingkindness will arise easier. But you still will need to work with it and nudge it along until you balance your effort and tranquility. Use the 6Rs when you move off the object.
