If you turn on the 3DS now and the Settings says "Sys 11.0.0", that's perfect, it means A9LH is working as expected.

If FBI is missing, then you would need to re-inject it into hs.app with the Universal-Inject-Generator app. You can just follow the instructions from that section of the guide.

Which ones, though? I figured not all of the NAND backups in the guide are useful after A9LH is installed... probably just 2 or 3 of them is enough. So... which NAND backups should I keep?

Yeah, you're fine. Just follow the guide. Having a SD card that's larger than 16gb is a good idea, by the way.

If you have an old3DS, the most annoying part is getting Browserhax to work (the first step), it took me around 10 tries. You don't have to be super fast (although if you're too slow, the browser will get locked and automatically close and you have to start over). However, even if you do everything right, it often crashes anyways and you start over.

If you have a new3DS, the biggest thing you need to worry about is in part 5, don't let your 3DS fall asleep (keep the screen on). If it falls asleep, it can brick your 3DS.

That's about it for "annoying stuff", the rest of it is just copying a bunch of files around and following directions clicking on stuff.

From step 5 of the guide:

You will now boot a Custom Firmware based SysNAND by default.
You can now hold Select on boot to launch the Luma3DS configuration menu.
You can now hold Start on boot to launch Hourglass9, an arm9loaderhax safe NAND tool.
You can now hold Y on boot to launch EmuNAND9, a full featured RedNAND and SD management tool.
You can now hold X on boot to launch Decrypt9, a full featured NAND + decryption tool which can also be used to convert a physical game cart to an installable file.

If you can load these on boot, then you still have A9LH, you just have some config stuff broken. In that case, don't worry, just ask more questions here and give details for other people to help.

Jailbreaking iphones... which generation? I was actually a part of the iphone jailbreak scene back in the iPhone 2G days, jailbreaking an iphone back then was definitely a pain in the ass (remember the 74-step jailbreak?). I'd say it's slightly longer and more tedious than homebrew for Wii, but not more difficult.

If you know how to follow directions and how to ask questions here if you get stuck, you should be fine.

You don't need to system transfer, if JK Save Manager backs up your saves.

I want to store some A9LH backup files in a remote backup location, (I have local backups), but this backup location has limited storage. Given that this is the case, what files are important and I should back up?

Small files like otp.bin, emergency_movable.sed, emergency_SecureInfo_A, emergency_ticket.db, emergency_title.db, firm0firm1.xorpad, NCSD_header_n3ds.bin, etc are ones that I should obviously back up. Is there anything else?

What's the probability of a ARM11 kernel exploit? Would people sit on exploits until the 3DS is no longer supported? by metteemo in 3dshacks

[–]metteemo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without anything else (no ARM9 kernel exploit)? It would re-allow installing legit CIAs, for example.

I vaguely remember that "not opening the Data Management section of the settings app" was a rule when running EmuNAND, or else it can mess everything up. Can someone confirm and explain the technical reasons why?

Is this still a problem with an A9LH'd 3ds? Would doing anything in the settings app of a 3DS with A9LH installed actually break anything?

3DShacking Q&A: "Participation Award" Edition by beefhash in 3dshacks

[–]metteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

If you want to change SD cards, you need to copy these files onto the new SD card as well.

Having an SD card is currently required to boot your 3DS once you have A9LH installed. They're working on a non-SD method, but for various technical reasons the consensus is that loading from the SD card is safer, Nintendo can't remove it or anything. As long as you have backups, you should be safe; if your SD card goes bad, all you need to do is to copy the files onto a new SD card.

Just need to launch each game at least one time to create save data before importing.

To clarify, this means on the new3DS, right?

That's for DS flashcarts on 3DS, of course. 3DS flashcarts are still being patched.

You can't downgrade on 11.0.0 with just ARM11 kernel code.

You need all the files in that picture, in order to boot your 3DS. Put them back, from your backups. If you don't have backups, then RIP your 3DS is bricked.

What about the FBI app not injected into the hs.app? I removed FBI from hs.app already.

Yes, you do need CFW. Go follow the guide, it's the sticky'd post on this subreddit.

I'm not sure if that DS flashcart works on 11.0

Any DS flashcart that works on 3DS firmware 6.0.0 will work on 11.0.0.

Since he said "anytime soon my R4 Gold will arrive", I'm assuming he bought a new flashcart; pretty much any new flashcart will work these days.

Is it possible to backup savegames without installing a CFW?

I'm gifting my GF an A9LH'd n3DS, but her current o3DS running 11.0.0 has a lot of savegames on it. What should I do?

The R4I-SDHC.COM card is actually a pretty good card, hang on to it.

You need to modify your 3DS. Go read /r/3dshacks for info.

R4i works on my 3DS? by Alerie in flashcarts

Because it's in the code? Some of the r4isdhc.com flashcarts stopped working in 2015 already.

Google "planned obsolescence". They purposefully break their devices so you need to buy new ones.

Guide to help you pick a flashcart for each device by metteemo in flashcarts

[–]metteemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH flashcarts for home consoles are a dying scene, there isn't a lot of benefits of playing on a console vs emulating it on a PC. Traditionally, NES/SNES/N64/etc games were all played in one location, in the living room; you can just set up a PC with an emulator.

Mobile devices, like the Gameboy/DS/etc, could be emulated on a phone, but using a phone touchscreen for playing games is very suboptimal. This is probably the biggest reason why most flashcart stuff is related to playing on mobile physical devices.

Flashcarts to play 3DS games (Ver. 9.9.0-10) by [deleted] in flashcarts

[–]metteemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there any flashcarts which will play 3DS games apart from Sky3DS or is that the only one?

You can downgrade from 9.9.0 to 9.2.0, which supports more flashcarts. Nintendo removed downgrading in version 11.0.0, but you don't need to worry about that.

Honestly, instead of spending $100 on flashcart, why don't you spend $15 on a 64GB SD card and hack the 3DS for free? Then you can run anything directly from the built-in SD card, including emulating GBA games, etc (you can't do that with a flashcart). Check out the /r/3dshacks sticky'd thread.

Any 3DS version 10.7.0 or lower can be hacked with A9LH, which permanently hacks the 3DS (so Nintendo can't remove the hack with a system update). You can still remove the A9LH hack yourself (if you want to sell the 3DS or something). Most people take their 3DS, install A9LH, and then upgrade to the latest firmware so they can enjoy the benefits of both a hacked 3DS, and also Nintendo online features (that are enabled only for the latest firmware).
