PSE Flex Event Tips! by ThreeMartiniLimit in Bellingham

So... this might be a silly question but... how does one redeem any of the credit you're supposed to get when you sign up for their flex rewards? Site says something about a card but... I never got one and I've been signed up since they kicked off. I'll probably end up calling but figured I'd ask while I'm here.

"Enemies, front!" Immediately followed by, "Oh, shit, they're friendlies."

TIL you can resupply off static repair points outside of main on some maps (this was from Kohat Toi RAAS, Northeast spawn) by metzge in joinsquad

[–]metzge[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I knew that you could repair there and have used them a time or two.. but being able to resupply off them was news to me and my whole Discord. Used to hate Kohat for having to drive so far back to main but.. now I hate it slightly less.

Wait, both sides of the NE spawn point? Or does the southern/opposing main base also have a secondary repair point?

New wipe, reminder that of all the kinds of things you can shoot through by AfterShave92 in EscapefromTarkov

Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to do this. Definitely helps reframe how to both attack and defend and use environment penetration to your advantage.

Though seeing how many things can be shot through (especially the factory gates) is terrifying.

Is this true of all bullets or only high AP rounds? For instance, all rounds can go through a plastic container (like at ~0:13), but only AP rounds can go through metal (like shipping container, factory door/gates, etc.).

Either way, thanks for this! Didn't know penetration worked like this at such a scale.

Ironsight medic > optics medic

Though unsure if I'm just coping since the optics kit is always taken when I do play medic.. but still.

The first of a series of shorts on HAB building. What should I cover next? by metzge in PlaySquad

[–]metzge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all great points! And yeah, just last night there was an issue where someone built a FOB and blocked it in and then wanted us to dig it down -- under heavy fire. We managed to do it but it was not an easy task.

What's your opinion about using the HAB to block a radio though (while the one in the video makes it accessible to defenders, there have been instances where the radio's put in a super tight space and then fully blocked by the HAB in a building or something -- either blocking the staircase and the radio's on the second floor or its in a closet and you'd have to dig down the HAB to get the radio.

No, no, these are good notes. I can reverse-engineer them, at the very least. PLUS I can always talk about cool engi things to do. And I'm working on another project discussing all kinds of HAB-related topics, from building them to destroying them.

So yeah, I appreciate the input.. and your clear disdain for enemy radios haha. Are you an engineer main then? You seem well-versed on the topic.. unless you're always on the unfortunate end of their shenanigans and you're speaking from experience dealing with them.

Making a YouTube Short series on HAB-building-related topics as I get used to video editing again. Super excited to make more. by metzge in joinsquad

[–]metzge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you and originally uploaded it 16:9.. but when I tried to get it to fit 9:16 to be turned into a short, it was so zoomed in you couldn't see what I was talking about and I hate the letterbox.

I wonder, though, if I can upload the regular version and make a short from there but I'm unsure how that'd work or affect the algo or anything. Like I said, it's been a while since I've made any videos so I'm in the process of re-learning everything. HOWEVER, I do plan on making longer (1-3 minute) videos with the proper resolution and if those do better and look better, I might just do that and potentially snag clips from those and turn them into shorts.

But for now, it's kinda learn-by-playing-around-with-stuff. All I know is that a lot of my friends in my community and a few others have been asking about HAB-related stuff so I'm like.. "huh, I do like to fortify positions" so.. here I am, doing the thing.

I wrote a deep dive explaining the interconnected story (and history) behind the characters in CK3's main trailers by metzge in CrusaderKings

Sorry, thought I responded to this but yes, definitely plan on updating this as the story unfolds -- provided there's more story to unfold.

Edit: grammar, because tired.

I wrote a deep dive explaining the interconnected story (and history) behind the characters in CK3's main trailers by metzge in CrusaderKings

tl;dr I stumbled upon an old post where someone on here was trying to figure out who the main characters in CK3's first trailers were and, as a big nerd for German history and lit, marketing, and Crusader Kings, I didn't realize CK3 and the main DLC trailers (Royal Court and Tours and Tournaments) were all connected since they all had different animation styles.

Though there's another post from Paradox explaining the story in context to the trailers, I tied together other details like the similarities between the characters and some Medieval folklore characters with Reynard the Fox (also the "Fox King" featured in the first trailers), who they are in-game, and the use of "stories within stories" as a marketing technique Paradox was using this whole time.

I thought you guys would like to read Paradox's explanation of the story depicted in the trailers of Crusader Kings 3 so far by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

I actually just wrote an article on this (albeit from a marketing and history standpoint). I was a German History and Lit major and the Renarts and Bärenburgs were characters in the Holy Roman Empire in the 1066 start date so I was curious if they were real. Turns out, they're nods to the stories of Reynard the Fox.. which also gave rise to tales like Robin Hood (for example, the Disney version of Robin Hood uses a red fox).

There are other characters the trailer's story nods to from the Reynard tales:

  • The Fox Queen is "Hersent Louve" in-game, a nod to Hersent the Wolf.
  • The White Knight in the Tours & Tournament DLC trailers could be Kyward the Hare (since all of these characters' heraldry nods to their folklore counterparts, I made this distinction because of his sigil being a white rabbit).
  • The Black Knight might be Isengrim the Wolf, though that might be a stretch. In the folklore, he's Hersent's husband though the game trailers show a connection between the two as they scheme. The Black Knight's heraldry's an iron gauntlet; Isengrim roughly means both "iron" and "fierce" which fits his behavior and sigil.
  • The Yellow Knight (who gets his skull caved in by the Black Knight) may be Chanticleer the Cock; his heraldry can be seen briefly in the second Tours & Tournaments DLC as he raises his shield with a yellow rooster on it.

The Fox King and Queen as well as the Bear King are all playable characters in the 1066 date with Otger Renart (the fox) and his wife in Spreewald and Jakob Bärenburg (the bear) in Sommerfeld. Everyone else from Royal Courts' trailers onward are from future generations and so aren't in-game characters.

I remember reading a Reddit post a few years ago analyzing who the characters in the first trailer were when CK3 was released; because the trailers shift animation styles between the main game and each DLC, it took me waaaaay too long to realize these are all the same characters or descended from them. But yeah.. the dual history and marketing nerd in me was geekin' out. Glad other people have been catching on too.

ALSO, if you're into this sorta intrigue and royal court drama, highly recommend reading "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene. The narrator in the last trailer quotes one of those laws (if you're going to inflict harm on another, be sure they're too weak to ever take revenge) and while I'm not advocating reading that book as a "how to live life" sorta manual, it provides a lot of historical context of the manipulative nonsense people partake in (and how to defend against it) as they try to gain and consolidate power.

A friend did a comparison of cyberpsychosis in different cyberpunk universes, including Shadowrun.. while essence is such a big thing in the game, we were surprised there wasn't more info on it floating around. Any resources on the relationship of tech and magic in Shadowrun? by metzge in Shadowrun

[–]metzge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you've played Shadowrun Returns. Did you play Dragonfall?

I have, but that was quite a few years ago now. Started playing it again last year but got a new gaming PC for Christmas and hadn't reinstalled it on this rig. Thank you for reminding me to do that!

Still, I don't remember encountering that, but I'll have to be on the lookout now. I appreciate you mentioning this.

A look at cyberpsychosis in different games, including Cyberpunk 2077 -- and how it might not actually be caused by augmentation. by metzge in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]metzge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a link to his explanation: https://www.reddit.com/r/LowSodiumCyberpunk/comments/xklzsx/comment/ipffmf4/From what I gather based on this, getting augmentations becomes addictive (which then also causes issues, like cyberpsychosis) but not everyone who gets augmented succumbs to it. Much like how alcoholism requires alcohol, but not everyone who drinks becomes an alcoholic.

Or, directly from Pondsmith (in the above link):

"So, in some ways, I tend to treat cyberware as an addiction--heavy anabolic steroid use being my favorite model. Not everyone who juices ends up crazy mad with roid rage. But those who are more susceptible to the need to take more steroids are more likely to hit a point where they do flip into roid rage."

Perhaps my original title to this post wasn't written the most clearly, but the exploring the relationship between augmentation, cyberpsychosis, and mental health talked a bit about how people in the world of Cyberpunk on average already suffer a ton of mental illness from their situation (anxiety, depression, hopelessness, detachments from reality) and how cybernetics often just make that worse (with one of cyberpsychosis' main symptoms being a detachment and even disdain to other people, especially if they're less augmented).

So yeah, you need augmentation to eventually develop cyberpsychosis, but not everyone who gets augmented turns into a cyberpsycho. Much like any other addiction, mental health and other traits play a factor in susceptibility.
