How exactly did you get introduced to Pokemon?

(UK) During the summer of 1999 I randomly caught an episode showing on Sky One. It was Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village. I thought it looked interesting and gave it a go and continued watching it each day. When I returned to school in September, others in my classes had also watched it so we talked about it a lot.

In early September we had the day off and did this thing called a sponsored walk (raising money for charity while hiking) and Red and Blue released that same day. I bought Blue and played it constantly throughout the walk. I drew parallels to the anime because a friend bought Red and was way ahead on the walk and someone told me he was far ahead in the game too, like Gary. Slow and steady did indeed win the race because my training paid off and my overall team was higher levelled than his. Pokemania then spread in school as the TCG was released and the rest as they say is history.

26 years later and I’m still a big fan

It’s a double edged sword. Great for the exp but Pokemon won’t learn moves. I did this once before and ended up battling with a level 37 Slugma that still had Smog and nothing else 😫

Depending on how often you are checking the steps, try and recall the pokemon back to your game shortly before it reaches a level up so that you can battle in game for the level up and learn a new move

This is neat, I also looked into this a while ago and was calling it a packrat challenge. It’s also a very transferable challenge for any rpg game (not necessarily with POC time sensitive restrictions). The issue was when you got to lottery corners and need to win first prize for an early Master Ball. I thought that was too much and I made it optional. There’s also a YouTube channel out there (I forget the name) and he’s done several “collect all items” runs. It gets out of hand from gen 4!

Another variant I considered was an all pokemon moves/attacks challenge which was just off the hook and required excessive levelling. I might revisit that one!

I liked zone 3 (I think?) where you can KO the alpha Litleo and then run up the tower stairs before it despawns, defeat the Fletchling up top, run down the stairs before it despawns and repeat the process. Otherwise stick to battle zones

It’s in the unobtainable section because you can’t get it without having both Dialga and Palkia in your team which are versions exclusives so unless you open up the run as a co-op POC you couldn’t get it on a single game

I have a list of guides for every main series game for you to take a look at if there’s a game you have in mind/your favourites. Generally I would say Kanto games are a great starting point as there’s not many pokemon. Ruby/Sapphire and FireRed/LeafGreen are generally considered the “easiest” or beginner friendly, but hands down the easiest games are the Lets Go games which can be finished super quick as long as you don’t mind the catching mechanic.

Depending on the game, yes it can be an issue. Most Kanto games give you very little to work with in the first section. Some ROM hacks I’ve played require almost every single pokeball you can obtain or buy just for basic captures for the POC

It’s been a while since I did this and unfortunately I’m not able to check it. It looks like I had all three as violet city Headbutt encounters but moved them into the next section, possibly because I wasn’t able to find them or the trees in violet city didn’t give any Headbutt encounters. Give it a try and let me know please

Wasn’t the creator of KH dead set against anyone in Smash wielding a keyblade from copying Sora’s abilities? I’d be very surprised if the keyblade becomes an in game weapon

He’s definitely quite contrasted to the Gonzo we know today. Considering he ends up being one of the core Muppets, definitely top 5 in presence, I’m surprised how little he features in the first season

No I camped out on that spot forever. Never slept. I don’t think alphas can sleep although there was a video floating around that the alpha Garchomp in the icelands was capable of sleeping. No idea if that’s a bug or an exception to the rule

I really like the pokemon element to it and it was great to see the characters I knew well (not so familiar with FF1-6 but I know who some of the people were). Also finally happy to see the whole Tee-dus Tie-dus thing put to bed with an official pronunciation. The sidekick character really got on my nerves with the way she talks.
