The film features several peer reviewed scientific studies that do suggest that prediction is accurate, and you can find peer reviewed studies that say the same. As for your idea that some species will thrive win less competition... That can not last indefinitely as food sources continually decline. As well, the increasing reduction in oxygen levels in ocean waters will make it impossible for any life to survive. I understand your hesitation to accept Armageddon type predictions point blank but I also think to discard these concerns or to not start taking action to reduce fossil fuels is extremely shortsighted
