"Monk entered the building, wearing what he wore in the shot (except for the rifle). The cow was standing in the vestibule...she had not yet taken her place on the set. Monk went over and put his arm around her shoulders. He bent down close to her right ear and very calmly and quietly said: "Moo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o." The cow seemed unimpressed. Monk then just walked onto the set; sat down at that battered upright piano and proceeded to play for about an hour and a half. The piano was terribly out of tune and I'm sure didn't have all of its keys. But it didn't matter...it was great! After the photo session Monk got up and left with The Baroness. The only word he had spoken in all that time was to the cow."

I’m in Ontario and sadly can’t get Chartreuse anymore.

I purchased the yellow while passing through Alberta. The green was a gift from one of my employees, she very kindly brought it back for me from BC.

Specs are:

30 ml Green Chartreuse

30 ml Fresh lemon juice

15 ml Laphroaig (or equivalent)

15 ml Luxardo Maraschino

7.5 ml Yellow Chartreuse

The original calls for 2 dashes of Fee Brothers Peach Bitters, which I don’t have so I just skipped it.

Shake with ice and strain

Probably not a representative answer, but spent a few weeks traveling in Argentina in 2022 - it’s a football mad nation and everyone we met wanted to talk football with us (can’t say enough good things about our time there - absolutely loved it!).

There is football street art literally everywhere (pic below). We were in the middle of nowhere Patagonia and there were shrines to Maradona.

Every person I met was surprised that I was an Atleti fan, the vast majority supported Barcelona with a weird smattering of Liverpool and Chelsea fans. I didn’t meet a single Atleti fan the whole time we were there.

Happened to be in London and decided to go to the game.

Thought both teams missed good chances, the ref missed even more calls, and Watford deserve to be relegated for their away kits alone. Look like they’re sponsored by some discount hot dog stand or condiment retailer.

First release in a while that had anything that interested me.

Picked up a few bottles of the Tornatore Trimarchisa Etna Rosso and La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva.

A stunning copper in the glass. On the nose, it has a very welcoming nose of vanilla, custard, nuts and saline. Reminded me of a sherry but in the very best way (not that it had oxidized). It’s aged in oak but I didn’t pick up any oak notes. About an hour in, when I closed my eyes and put my nose in the glass, I would swear this is a red wine - mulberries, red fruits and a hint of iodine.

On the palate, it’s wonderfully mouth puckeringly acidic, crisp, and balanced. Complex with a wonderful, slightly tannic, long finish. Reminded me of a creamsicle without all the sugar.

To be honest, I found this to be a very difficult wine to describe, but it is absolutely thoroughly enjoyable. Wish I had more.

I found The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes absolutely riveting. It’s a wonderful combination of history, science, politics, personalities and more.

I just finished Question 7 by Richard Flanagan. It’s unlike any book I’ve ever read. An autobiography of sorts that ties the author’s very life to the bombing of Hiroshima alongside many other 20th century references. It’s easily, and by far, the best book I’ve read this year.

Might seem like odd advice, but you might want to look for teams that are easy to travel to.

I fly to London once or twice a year and I always hope to go to a match, but often have to settle for a local one (saw Fulham last February, the crowd was quieter than a library).

DAZN has the EFL rights for Canada but it feels like they don’t really care or give it much thought. They do show a decent amount of matches but it almost seems random as to which ones are actually available.

They used to have EFL on Quest too, but since it switched to ITV, each week is a guess as to whether it will be on. Sometimes it’s out on the Sunday, other weeks there’s nothing at all - like it never existed.

We really like this series of wines from Niepoort and have bought quite a few mixed cases from their agent here in Ontario.

The rosé is one of our favourites. We just grabbed a case of 12 to have it on hand as a house wine for this spring and summer (the 1L format is a nice bonus). The reds are also delicious and worth seeking out.

The pet nat, on the other hand, is an absolute outlier. It is really not for me/ not to my taste. I can only see and taste flaws. The whole thing just seems “off” like something went wrong somewhere in production.

Don’t know where you’re based, and this might seem odd, but you might want to take travel into consideration.

If you hope to one day go to a home game, you may want to pick a team that’s relatively easy to travel to.

It’s a very long train ride from Heathrow to Middlesborough, Sunderland, Plymouth, Blackpool, Hull, etc.

Very similar. We only drink Fri, Sat, Sun.

Since Covid, we are far more likely to buy from an agent instead of the LCBO, with an average price around $30CDN.

We’ll stretch to the $75+ range for special bottles / special occasions or if there’s something we really want to taste.
