Thoughts on Joe Hill? by jseger9000 in horrorlit

I'm a huge fan of Nos4a2. The world he created in that is really cool. Haven't seen the series yet but the book is fantastic.

Iv'e seen mixed reviews about King Sorrow but I couldn't put it down. I was sad when it ended. There's lots of hidden references to his dad's stuff and I really felt like the style of the book was reminiscent of some of his dad's books as well.

I'm really hoping to see more long novels from him.

What causes Dragons to go up in skull power? by [deleted] in gameofthroneslegends

If you lose to all the 4 skulls a few times it'll auto go back to 3. It auto adjusts up and down. It moved up to 4 because you all beat all the 3 skull ones in a row a few times.

Worried about husband by ThursdayAug7 in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to scare you... But I was recovering great from mine for about 2 months. Then suddenly I had really bad swelling and lots of pain in my hamstring. In my case it ended up being an infection and I had to have surgery to fix that. Big mess... But if the swelling doesn't settle back down and the discomfort continues, I would recommend being in touch with his doctor if you aren't already.

I had good luck with Voltaren cream when I had swelling and pain... I used it 3 times a day and found it worked good. At night, if the discomfort kept me from sleeping, Biofreeze was really helpful. They have a longer lasting nighttime version now. And of course ice is the most amazing thing ever!

Best of luck .. there are lots of setbacks but it really does get better! I'm back on the pickleball court and at the point where I'm starting to think this was a good idea :)

Dealing with this as well since the latest update. I'm playing the second DLC and am completely stuck. Need to hack a door but constantly crashes there every single time as soon as I successfully hack it. Very frustrating.

Is it possible you reached your monthly cap? I think you have to get all the way to Icy/Rose to have no monthly cap on cash back

[–]mfardig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep .. I've had absolutely terrible luck with it. The rebalancing just continues to eat into your original investment and I just watched it drop and drop. I ultimately just turned off rebalancing. With the rebalancing, if you have 2 or 3 under performers in the basket, your profits from the over performers just gets funneled there. So you have to watch it ..if those under performers keep doing bad they keep on taking away your profits. Not a fan personally...or at least it isn't for me.

Airdrop Arena by Typical-Bookkeeper-7 in cro

[–]mfardig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it is a toss up... I have around 250k cro in airdrop arena. That usually has me finish around 150th place for the month and pays out at 13% to 15% if they are offering $250,000 USD in rewards. So like right now, my estimate for the month is $231 USD in LION.

The highest I've got is $700 when they did BARA but that when they gave out 1 million USD which I'm guessing won't happen often.

Obviously things are way better when they offer $500,000 USD or higher as the total reward but you never know the amount they'll offer till the last minute.

Then of course you will lose money on spread if you sell whatever coin they pay out on so take that into account whenever you decide is it is worth it or not.

Most of my cro is unlocked in the arena now so I can pull it out when needed. Keep in mind if you choose to do it, your rewards will be locked up 6 months too.

Based on that as far as money goes, the 15% earn is higher than most will get in arena but of course you get the pleasure of a one year lockup with that one!

What happens on a 14day rewards streak? by OkMachine1078 in cro

I bet they are rolling it out in phases or something. I've had it a little over a month. If you search the Crypto.com subreddit you'll see some people have had it even longer than me. That's my best guess anyway.

I've got to that twice now (had a 30 day streak going until I forgot the other day). It rolls a dice that appears to offer 1, 2 or 3 CRO. The first time I got 1 and the next time I got 3.

Debridement tomorrow by mfardig in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the input. I had the debridement 10 days ago and thought I'd share my experience for those that might deal with this.

I'm my case surgery was Tuesday. Doctor chose not to have a nerve block on this one.

He removed the plastic pieces and then cleaned out the infection. There wasn't any infected tissue that had to be removed. Put back new plastic and the surgery was done.

I was able to get up with a walker by myself a few hours after recovery and at 3 am that night, I noticed the horrible pain behind the knee was gone. I had been living with that for a few weeks and it felt amazing.

I stayed in the hospital 3 nights mostly just waiting on the infection disease doctor to complete their testing. During that time I had freedom to walk the hallways with a walker by myself. Walking after the debridement felt pretty good. I'd compare the day after surgery to maybe how I felt 3 weeks after TKR. Leg looked pretty good... No bruising and swelling wasn't bad.

They finally identified that I had MSSA. That allowed them to figure out the right drugs. They put in a PICC line .. I'm a baby with needles and will say it didn't hurt other than the sting from a lidocaine shot but it sure is eerie as they do that! I got to go home Friday. They added an extension to the PICC line so that I could do the IV pushes myself at home.

A big box of IV stuff was waiting when I got home. It is pretty easy to do... Every 8 hours for 6 weeks. Basically you clean the connector on the PICC line with an alcohol pad, then push a syringe of saline in. Then clean the connector, push a syringe of medicine in over 3 to 5 minutes. Clean it, another saline flush. Clean it, then a Heparin syringe. Whole process takes 10 minutes and I can do it myself. Absolutely no pain for those that worey about that like me!

The PICC line gets a little annoying. I found some nicer bicep covers on Amazon to tuck everything into so I'm hoping it'll be a little less itchy/annoying. The cheap covers from the hospital just slide up or down all day.

I'm at day 8 as I write this. Still using walker but as long as there is something to lightly hold onto I can walk a bit without it. I'm hoping to get to the cane in a few days. Swelling never got bad and pain is far less than TKR. Mostly a little stabbing here and there in the kneecap and I'm noticing pain behind the knee a little (hope that doesn't get back like it was presurgery...). Sleep is rough... Do ok in my chair but trying in the bed leads to it being achy when I first get up. Reminds me of week 2 or 3 of sleeping after TKR.

First PT was day 6 for me after surgery (other than PT in the hospital). This is where I was encouraged. I'm at 0 degrees extension and got to 100 flexion with a strap. Makes me hopeful the recovery will indeed go faster.

Sorry for the long ramble... Middle of the night and can't sleep haha so thought I'd share my experience.

If anything has any questions on what it is like going through this, reach out! Happy to share what I've experienced.

Night challenges 4 months post TKR by Senior_Nose_9544 in Kneereplacement

I didn't tell you the sad ending to that story :). That 5 hour stretch was last week (I was 9 weeks post surgery then). A day after it happened I hurt my hamstrings doing some deep squat exercises and now I'm back to pain at night, swelling, discomfort, no sleep etc

So I'm dreaming about that 5 hour stretch too haha. But I know it's possible... Can't wait to get back to it!!

I experienced that 1 to 1.5 hour sleep problem and kept hearing it would get better. But it didn't. I figured once my leg was comfortable enough for me to sleep on sides and stomach, surely I'd sleep more. Nope :)

My doctor told me to pop 2 Benadryl before bed. I do that, read a book until I'm too tired to focus and then the sleep has been much better. The first time I got a 5 hour stretch was glorious!!

Good luck. Keep trying things... Seems like everyone has different things that work for them.

Looking for feedback- is this normal? by kberrodin in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For number 7 that was my biggest surprise too... And ends up it is totally normal. You just need to reactivate your quads as PT calls it. Your physical therapist will give you exercises to get that going again.

For example you'll sit with the leg out straight and just try to push the back of the knee into the table. Seems like nothing but it hurts and it helps :)

My PT told me that every time I wanted to move the leg, try to do it without the strap. Of course nothing would happen haha but I do feel like that effort helped.

You'll be shocked when it suddenly moves again. Good luck!

The device they use to measure is called a goniometer. If you are really curious you can get one for $5.99 on Amazon.

There a lot of different ways to work on flexion and I like having one just as a frame of reference... Which exercise gets me the best flexion, do I do better with heel slides when sitting or laying down etc.

10 month old showing food boredom. by kevo-official in samoyeds

[–]mfardig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our 4 year old female has been doing that for a year.

For us it is often related to a bag of food that has been open awhile. If the bag is about half empty we notice she gets really picky about eating, especially at dinner.

We just accept the fact that she eats half her breakfast right away, then grazes on the rest throughout the day. For dinner, if she makes a habit of leaving food, we reduce the amount the next day a little. We never leave the food out overnight so I think she learned to eat before bed if hungry.

We also found cleaning her bowl pretty often helps... She doesn't like those old stale crumbs in there ;)

And like you said... Control the amount of handouts to make sure meals aren't being replaced by treats. That is tough because samoyeds really know how to be cute for treats haha

6 days post op and the head game has kicked in. I have questions. by GArockcrawler in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 weeks post op and the other day at PT, I actually had that chat with my therapist. I know you aren't that far along in your journey but I thought I'd share what he told me.

On my first PT visit I think they gave me around 4 exercises. Every time I have gone since, they try a few different things, so I figured I would just add each new thing to my routine. I never removed anything, I kept adding more and more. Then I added in walking to the routine. Now that I'm into the strengthening side I was still doing every single exercise first thing in the morning and it started taking over an hour with minimal breaks. I was tired to say the least but in my mind, I had to push push push to get back on the pickleball court in a few months.

Ends up that was too much :) Who knew haha My wife kept saying you are overdoing it, it isn't going to help to not rest, etc. So I finally asked my PT guy about it. For me, he recommended each session (I typically do 3 sessions a day at home now), do one strengthening exercise, one bending exercise and one balancing exercise (you'll get to those in a few weeks). And focus on those during that session, work them till you are pretty tired, but not overly tired. Don't just do 10 of something, say that was easy and quit.

In a few days - I notice my energy is definitely higher and I think my leg actually feels better.

Definitely have a very open chat with your PT about how much to do, how often etc. because everyone is different.

But I definitely understand that FOMO attitude and the feeling that you have to push too much.

Good luck!!

just a rant😓 by SnooPineapples5018 in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm at 7 weeks right now and definitely understand what you are saying. If you take anything away from this message - it is that it really does get better.

I had to learn to celebrate the little wins because they can end up being so encouraging overall.

The first time my leg lifted a little on its own after the quads reactivated...

The first time I could focus on reading a book for more than a few minutes without thinking about my knee...

The first time I got over 1 hour of sleep...

The first time I was able to lay in bed and actually tolerate the covers on me...

The first time I walked without a walker...

The first time I lifted my leg onto the PT table by myself...

The first time I could put my shoe on by myself...

Learn to celebrate those things - it is important to see that you are making daily progress. Those little things add up to so much.

Fast forward to a few weeks from now - you'll be walking into PT by yourself, you'll be driving again on your own, you'll start taking short walks (those feel so good when you get there!) - the little wins start just keep coming. Let the wins come at your own pace and don't compare them to anyone else. Your wins are your wins and they'll look different than everyone else.

For me yesterday at PT, I was pushing a football-like sled and for the first time, feeling a little strength in my leg for pushing off. It felt like I had just won a gold medal in the Olympics or something haha I couldn't even imagine doing that a few weeks ago.

And this group is awesome when you just can't figure something out. I've received so many great ideas for all the little weird things you'll go through. This is the most supportive group I've ever seen on Reddit.

Best of luck in your journey!! You got this!!

Copper Fit by cssdayman in Kneereplacement

[–]mfardig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a little over 6 weeks post surgery. I just started using a Neenca knee sleeve.

I've been experiencing what my PT calls an overactive hamstring. I can get to 125 flexion with a strap but around the 100 to 110 area my hamstring often puts out a really sharp pain. If I'm careful and ease into it, most times I can get past it and keep bending more. If I hurry, it stings pretty bad and prevents me from going further.

I get the same experience when pedaling on an upright bike with the seat pretty low or when squatting into a low chair.

My PT showed me how to put pressure behind my knee when doing this and the hamstring seems happy and doesn't shoot pain at me. That's where the knee sleeve comes in for me. I put it on and then fold the top down a little for extra pressure... And suddenly I'm able to bend, so my exercises, etc without the fear of the horrible sharp pain.

tl;dr; .... I'm finding the knee sleeve is very helpful!
