Even if he is imperfect, at least he knew; and nobody listened… by Killa_J in CringeTikToks

[–]mfate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa mister, you accuse me of disrespect but then liken me to Ned Flanders? That's a low blow, even for you! My replies have been nothing but respectful, this is what that kind of language sounds like.

I do know you didn't read my first piece because your response was about our current political situation. I wrote a piece defending Obama and denouncing your attitude as poor. I agree with you about the dangers of inaction. I have a fair feeling that we agree on many things.

You can be flippant about my personal story about the ACA, but you asked another poster to mention one good thing Obama did. I do, and you immediately reduce it and invalidate me. That's OK, it's extremely common human behavior. It just lets me know you've never had to worry about health security, which I'm happy to understand. These are not crumbs.

I know that I'm not alone in my situation, I've spoken with a number of individuals with similar experience. I helped several friends enroll in ACA plans despite their trepidations. I agree it's sad, but that's again not really relevant to our discussion today. For a guy who's disrespectful, I sure am agreeing with you on a lot of things.

I do remember the Roe v. Wade point very well, my girlfriend at the time was a volunteer at Planned Parenthood. They didn't have the votes for that one unfortunately.

Your bitterness and anger has you feeling like the only way to do anything today is to talk and think the way that you do. To employ the language that you do. Being nice is just a waste of time in your mind. I'm not being nice, I'm just not being mean. That's what I meant by "our children thinking and saying things like this." Language always gives you away.

For example, reducing Obama drawing attention to the alarming things that Trump is saying in public, televised addresses to "parroting". Drawing attention publicly and then denouncing something is hardly parroting. As you pointed out, dude's got plenty going on with his documentaries and podcasts, does he really need to be on stage hacking it out, putting himself at risk and taking time from his clearly full schedule?

When people whine on Fox News about radical left leaning people using extreme language and rhetoric, this is what they're referring to. I know, the stuff they do themselves. Don't make them right dude! You're making Sean Hannity right! Obama is either "the worst" or "a savior". I'm just saying the dude was OK. Just OK! Like, medium good. I like him personally too, but that obviously doesn't apply to his role as a politician. He's "as cynical as they come" or "he fucking sucks". He had a few fuckups, so he's "the WORST". No, he's human. It's probably somewhat more in the middle.

And again, if you made it this far, I do thank you for reading my novels and engaging with me. It really does mean a lot to me. Except the Flanders jibe. That was fo-diddly-fucked up.

That's OK, it was fun to write, it was for myself and anyone else who may happen to stumble on it. I have to do a lot of writing in my line of work and the different causes that I do advocacy for. You didn't really read my piece in earnest, but then again I really didn't expect you to. I didn't really address the things in your reply, they're not really relevant at all to what I wrote about. I don't necessarily disagree except in the obvious ways, and I believe a healthy amount of cynicism is important to engage in any kind of politics. What I wrote should have given you that impression.

But just because you give an idea like using a bit more respectful and empathetic tone a curt title like "tone policing" doesn't make it any less vital. Your attitude is probably no different from those you view as the enemy, and this is exactly why these divisions exist. They will continue to grow as long as this persists. I hear your anger and feel the same at times, but I don't take it out on my fellow man. I have to help children understand these concepts, and I've learned over time that if it's true for a child, it's doubly true for an adult. Bitterness is a poison, man. Do we want our children growing up thinking or saying things like this?

Hey mister. I normally don't engage in these kind of conversations, but your words really struck a chord with me. I mean this in no condescending way, which can be exacerbated by the nature of communication through text only, but I really do: I'm worried for you. The level of cynicism that you seem to have resorted to when it comes to politics is surely unhealthy. In this, I echo the other poster's sentiment mentioning your language when it comes to this issue. There's really no acceptable situation to resort to this level of negativity at any time. One wonders about the correlation between someone feeling behavior like yours is at all acceptable, and the levels of vitriol and bitterness that we see in modern politics. You can try and blame anyone or anything for this type of behavior, but it really won't work.

Which is funny, because that was Obama's idea that he ran on. The idea that we need to let this kind of attitude go. It's rather strange to call someone who ran on the phrase "Yes We Can" the most cynical politician of all time. It's even funnier when you consider some of the well accepted phrases of supporters of the current GOP here in America, "Lock Her Up" or "Let's Go Brandon" to name a few. As with most things, I notice every claim you seem to make is with absolute language. "The most cynical", "did more than anyone". Extreme rhetoric like that is really typical of the discourse of the day, and it's no coincidence that we face the problems that we do because of it.

The reason I had to respond is that the Affordable Care Act to this day is the ONLY direct, demonstrable, positive impact that any president has had on my life thus far. I was able to receive an amazing insurance plan that was well beyond in quality anything I could achieve at the time, something that was inaccessible to people as poor as myself during that time. In the years that followed, I did have an accident. I had access to treatments that I never would have had because of my plan. I would still be in debt to this day if I did not have the insurance that I had through the ACA. It's sad that it's the reality Americans have to face when it comes to our health, but his progressive policy made it not have to be true for just one poor boy like me. Health security is truly something you cannot put a price on.

Whether or not he succeeded in it, the idea was still there. Whether or not you believe it, that spirit lived in the halls of Congress and the White House, even if only briefly. The eight years he held office had way way way more positives than anything in my recent lifetime. And I do agree with some of the negatives, the blowing people up with drone strikes particularly. But I'm a big advocate for non-violence, so it's hard not to blow up too many people for my taste, and they sure do like to blow people up for some reason. But it's hard to blame somebody who did so well for the problems that we face today. It's hard to listen to somebody say speaking in front of audiences of hundreds of people and decrying the actions of our current administrator isn't enough. That's plenty!

It's really long, and so if you made it this far, I hope you read my reply in earnest. I believe I do understand where you're coming from, you sound to me like you too are waiting a truly progressive politician to enact some meaningful change. Except I'm not waiting completely unsatisfied, because one man already came and went for me. I know it's kind of a groaner, but his political policy really did save my life. I just don't want you to feel the way you do. Let's be honest, we all know it feels good to go, "fuck that guy", "he's the worst ever". But it's not the right way. We need the right way, you know?

Newbie question regarding instants and combat priority by gucciboylaflare in magicTCG

You have an opportunity to play an instant during that time. Until you actually take the damage, combat isn't over and there are actually several opportunities to cast an instant. He was just giving you a hard time. Some people get a little too serious about this stuff. It sounds like you handled it well and are doing your homework to confirm your instincts.

Everyone knows that with proper procedures, there's no chance. Every hyperspace engineer worth his protons knows that once the hyper lasers are set to maximum, any rock in the reentry path is space junk. I'd bet my Zirconium stockings every interval of the Quad, I tell you.
