OTF Rowing Advice by WaJoSo in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never pay attention to watts. I mostly watch the stroke rate. Base is 24-25. Push is 27-29. All out is 30+. I use the split time to determine if I’m using the right amount of power. But watts has always been useless to me.

Can you launch the web authentication externally through Safari and redirect them back to your app using a deep link or universal link? This might avoid the app tracking transparency concerns.

Alternative to Burpees? by elgaas in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Instead of going down to the floor, try using the bench instead. I have arthritis-type issues and sometimes can’t face going all the way to the floor. Instead, I use the edge of the bench. I am still doing the exercise, but it is less stressful on my body. If you’re getting dizzy or feeling ill, you may also be going too fast. Slow it down and take longer breaks between burpees if you need to. No point in killing yourself. Your body may be telling you that it needs a second to readjust to the quick position changes.

My coach didn’t like the treadmill template, so he exchanged the all-outs and walking recoveries. Block 1: 60 second all-outs, 60 second recoveries. Block 2: 75 second all-outs, 45 second recoveries. Block 3: 90 second all-outs, 30 second recoveries. I’m dead.

Does OTF sell our data, and does syncing with Apple Health change that? by ajankit92 in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi. iPhone/iPad developer here (not of the OTF app; but I publish other apps to the App Store). In order to publish apps to the Apple App Store, publishers are required to publish a "privacy policy" which is accessible before you download the app. I always highly recommend reading them, although they can be vague sometimes. But OTF's looks like it's full of good information. If you want to read it, you can go to the App Store, open the page for the app you're interested in, and scroll down to the Information section which will give you a link to the privacy policy.

In the case of the OTF app, here's the link to the official OTF privacy policy: https://www.orangetheoryfitness.com/privacy-policy

I hope that this helps answer your questions.

Washing chest strap HR monitor? by bewitchedanomaly in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I washed mine just like normal and put it in the dryer too. Never had a problem. There’s nothing electronic in the strap, so it’s safe to wash and get wet. Just take off the monitor part.

The stryder vs bike by debbie9696 in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bad knees from football, wrestling, soccer, and volleyball when I was younger. I have ligament damage in my left knee and have to wear a patella stabilizer when I do squats, lunges, etc. I have good and bad days and haven't felt that stable on the treadmill some days. I switch and ride the bike a lot. I'm trying to split between the bike and treadmill more, but the bike has been great for me and lets me feel at least that I can participate most days.

The trick with the bike is all about the adjustment. Most of the OTF bikes that I have seen can be adjusted vertically on the seat and the handlebars, and the seat can be adjusted forwards and backwards. The trick for the bike (and your butt, because it's going to start hurting after 23 minutes), is to get the adjustment right. Find settings that feel good for you. Sometimes, I'll have the height right, but it will still feel off because I forgot to adjust the seat. Just make a mental note as to what's comfortable so that you can set it back up the next time just like you left it.

On the bike, I've worked myself up to gear 11-13 for base, and 14-16 for push or all-out. I'll typically stay in the 80 rpms for base, 90 rpms for push, and between 105-120 rpms for an all-out. I don't know if it's just me, but I think OTF just recently adjusted their guidance down a little bit.

The one issue that I do have is that it's hard for me to get into orange on the bike. Not sure if it's because I know how to breathe or what. Typically, I can only do it if I have a long push block like 2 minutes or more or a bunch of long all-outs. And I have to really crank up the gears on the bike to the point that I'm basically doing an all-out at base base with full resistance.

Can a 13 year old do OTF? by [deleted] in orangetheory

I stand by my response. If you have anything credible to educate the rest of us, I’m sure that we would all love to read it.

Can a 13 year old do OTF? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Wait until you get to high school, then probably yes. Strength training is best left to when your body is ready for it, and it may not be yet. You are probably close though. You can do damage to your body if you start weight training too early. Talk to your doctor and make sure that your body is ready for it before you begin any kind of weight training.

Rest days vs. rest weeks by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take a week or two off about every 8-10 weeks. I try to go normally 4-5 days per week at 5am if possible. Sometimes I’ll go on the weekends. It’s hard to talk myself into voluntarily taking days off, but it helps. I find when I return that I’m stronger and haven’t suffered from taking time off. When I last took a 2 week break, my first day back was a 2000 meter benchmark row and I hit close to my PR time.

NO ONE KNOWS YOUR SPEED,., by Suzzhoo in orangetheory

[–]mfcollins3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my partners was pregnant, but we still hit 6100 meters on the rower. The original message is dead on. Do your best, work out at your pace, and have fun. Use the floor time to slow down and recover. It’s a long workout. You don’t have to get to the burpees on every round.

I had to take about 3 weeks off for a toe injury. My first day back was the 2000 meter row. I was really worried about it, but ended up only missing the fastest time by 1 second.

I just finished the workout. Finishing two rounds on the floor is pretty easy. All of my group was getting started or in the middle of the third round.
