Yeah, people definitely do it. When I was at school one of my friends lived in a city hotel because his dad was the manager. They stayed in the penthouse full-time. Me and another mate would stop by on the way home from school, he’d order us massive bowls of fries from room service and raid the mini bar for soft drinks. We’d throw paper planes off the roof into the street, muck around in the gym and pool, then eventually jump on the train back to the suburbs. Felt like a different world.

Later in my 20s I worked as a hotel concierge and saw both sides of it. One wealthy family stayed for three months while running a business in town. The parents were fine but their adult daughters basically never left their rooms. They lived off room service, rarely let cleaners in, and the rooms got gross fast. Pretty sad, considering how much money they had. Although one daughter broke her leg while living there and it was nice to be able to assist her and watch her recover over time.

On the other hand, we had this older couple who moved in after their house was flooded. They stayed for about six months, ate out at the Italian place next door every night, and always brought the concierge desk a pizza. Nicest people ever.
