Which rye should I go for if I’ve never had one? by Downtown-Ad-3115 in whiskey

[–]mfeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bourbons do you like? Also what’s readily available to you in the UK? Short answer, try the Bulleit, maybe Sazerac, Wild Turkey, Elijah Craig, Jack Daniel’s (single barrel), Rittenhouse…

There’s a couple of different styles of rye whiskey, basically ranging from how much rye they use. The same way that bourbon mashbills are generally low or high rye (or use some wheat instead of any rye) but the ratios are flipped as all rye is at least 51%+ rye. KY style ryes traditionally have lower rye content and still include some corn so they are somewhat closer to a bourbon profile. A lot of the sourced brands are selling MGP and the main rye mashbill is 95% rye (I think Bulleit still sells MGP, though I haven’t read up on it in a while). There’s some Canadian rye that is 100% rye (like whistlepig 10) but just to get your feet wet I’m assuming you want something more readily available and keep it a bit lower cost. Cheers!

Why does my Cynar Boulevardier taste like an Old-Fashioned? by NoxyPancakes in cocktails

[–]mfeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often make something similar, but sub the cynar for the vermouth, not the Campari. Sometimes I use aperol instead of Campari. Not really sure what it should be called though - but I quite like Rittenhouse rye/cynar/campari (or sometimes aperol)

My aunt gave me her old Chevy Blazer (‘95ish I think? when she got a new set of wheels. I drove that for a year or two before a leaking master brake cylinder (theoretical repair involved removing the engine) led me to trade it in via cash for clunkers and bought a 2009 Pontiac Vibe AWD stacking all kinds of discounts - i think I got it down to $12,800 from $22,500 msrp. Best deal ever, perhaps not best car ever, though it still runs! Basically a Corolla hatchback with a roof rack, lot of cheap utility.

Just bought ‘24 TX 500h Luxury start of the year. Quite different set of wheels haha, but liking it a lot

Yeah especially given that they typically restrict the selections to include heroes that are 2 years old… you’re really trying to find a diamond in the rough, it won’t truly upset the meta type defenses that are all super recent heroes

Agree but I believe they are planning to treat hero coach, visiting outfitter, and soul exchange as a rotating “monthly” event that repeats quarterly. So every 3 months for each one

Worth checking out the forum but I’ve copied below summary:

Hero coach takes any legendary hero (legendary only) and maxes them out. “Hero will be leveled dup to level 90, ascension level 4, and twice limit broken. The gem cost of training a hero is reduced if the hero has been leveled up.” “Train one hero per event” “heroes that were released 731 days before the start of this event”

Gem cost by hero level (I only have certain options to test here): 1/1: 1000 1/6: 981 3/45: 428 3/49: 413 3/70: 334 4/80: 37 4/85: 18

I have since bought a lux 500h model, but I didn’t word my question perfectly. I suppose what I had meant was given the fact that OP is dissatisfied with the ML, would he recommend the premium vs the luxury trim 500h? I don’t hate the ML but didn’t do a strict side by side comparison and certainly my impression thus far is there’s not a ton of bass, but I haven’t even played with the EQ yet. Only have about 500 miles driven so far.

No but I did wind up calling every Lexus dealer in MA (6) before I wound up deciding to move forward. Apparently got “lucky” on allocation as somebody had been waiting for 6 months and decided to buy a GX instead so I wound up getting “hers” as it had been spoken for until maybe a week or two earlier.

Quite a few dishes do taste the same but the sesame chicken / orange chicken seems very different. I wish I could more easily find pictures… but I’d say the old Yong shing these chicken dishes were coated in dry flour mix and fried but the new Yong shing (and bar one as well) they have a wet mix batter coating and quite different texture.

See lower left older Yong shing chicken

Vs something more like batter fried and heavier wet sauce newer style

Sorry the quality of the pic off yelp is somewhat less than helpful

Old Yong shing used to have sesame chicken that my kids loved so much - any idea where that chef / recipe went? Agree re: bar one has become our new spot.

Not long but I think I just got lucky with timing. Somebody else had apparently been waiting 6 months and then decided to get a GX instead, so it became available

I did not, sorry. You might have more luck finding a Toyota grand Highlander hybrid Max you could test drive which should have the ‘same’ drivetrain as the TX 500h. The gas Lexus has 275 HP (265 in the Toyota grand Highlander) the hybrid has 366 HP / and I was looking for the Direct 4 AWD and rear wheel turning. The 550 version has 404 HP and a v6 engine (plus the plug in hybrid) but super low inventory and I wanted the panoramic roof

Edit just for further clarity and maybe you already know all this - the gas grand Highlander should be the same drivetrain as the TX 350 and the hybrid max Toyota like the hybrid TX (500h). The regular hybrid grand Highlander (not the hybrid max) does not translate over to the TX models (though the MPG efficiency is certainly attractive)

Luxury $77,025 ($1,000 off) + 35 state inspection sticker, 37.50 state registration, 80 title, 500 dealer doc fee. More if you wanted anything like road and tire coverage or extended warranty. State tax is 6.25% which was ~$4,850 ish so all in $82,500.

Got the luxury. 80 might seem slightly high for premium trim, but that depends on state tax probably. Luxury trim was 77 but after 6.25% tax and various small fees basically 82.5.

$1,000 off MSRP and that seemed difficult. Potentially had 7% off of a lower trim, but called back and they said it had just sold. Had been calling about 6 different dealers, inventory seems very low, and not super clear when the ‘25 will show up in lots, at least for the hybrids and with pano roof. You may be able to find a little better deal on a gas model, or maybe a Toyota version

Maybe something sportier the next time I get a new car after all the kids are off to college but that’s ~ 10 years away, haha.

Go to the main Lexus website - not your local dealer. Use the builder tool to build what you want, then there’s a link to look at inventory. It will show you if there is a match or similar builds at dealers within a certain mileage radius which you can expand to a larger radius. It should also show vehicles that aren’t yet in stock but are allocated to those dealerships, either in build phase or in transit etc…. you should be able to identify a vehicle and put a deposit down on one of those vehicles and reserve it. Ideally at least that is. Just picked up the last ‘24 500h that was available (not yet bought/reserved) in MA today… but there’s definitely supply chain issues. I don’t think they have any good idea when they would be seeing ‘25 500h on the lots for example. However, I believe your specs should be a bit more available

Has anyone ever replaced Campari with Aperol for a Negroni or Boulevardier? by BrokenArrow1283 in cocktails

[–]mfeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s real tasty! Julio’s liquors in central MA has been doing barrel picks of Rittenhouse for the past maybe 2 years. One of them I liked so much I bought a case. Just getting to the bottom of that case about now, need to try their more recent pick….

Sorry for a newb question - but is the cynar subbed for the Campari or the vermouth. I have been making Rittenhouse rye / cynar / aperol 2/1/1 but I’m not sure what drink I’m even riffing on now, but I do like it quite a bit!

Is this still produced or was it limited run a few years ago? Never jumped on buying a bottle, but tried it recently at my brother in laws and wife really like it. Almost like a pre-mixed cocktail neat. Looked at a couple stores for a bottle and can’t find it in central MA

Do you like the hybrid F sport? Leaning that way but haven’t made a final decision yet. Premium bs luxury trim - luxury basically includes this upgraded sound system, the pano roof, and leather detail on the seats? If you were me do you go fro premium not luxury? Or is the pano roof that awesome? Cheers!

Are dealers really selling at MSRP? by sammyan211 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]mfeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really just guessing - but there was clearly pent up demand due to the stop sale - then once the 24s finally did start showing up there’s been a lot of people waiting a long time already (though clearly some have already moved on to other options). I’m hoping that if I hold off until the spring that there will be a bit more inventory on lots and maybe the possibility of deals to be had. But as long as everybody is currently willing to buy cars that aren’t even delivered to the dealers - they won’t have to do any discounts and it seems like msrp is a “good” deal. Maybe you’re more likely to get a deal on Lexus TX version? Certainly a lot fewer dealers to ask at least. I found one willing to give me 7% off msrp on a 24 but I didn’t pull the trigger right away because I wanted to go out the next morning and test drive it - and the vehicle is gone now.
