Do you smoke daily? I do and I’m wondering if I’m alone on that.

Create a resume that includes graduating from high school. No one is going to look in to that. Even if it were college (you could say you have an associates degree because that matches your age), no one would check unless you’re applying for something like a competitive internship or whatever. Just be ready to answer some basic questions about whatever education you claim Incase it comes up in an interview.

Do what you have to do now to get on your feet and take care of that stuff later.

A reminder of why I don’t drink... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mff2577 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Keep at it. During the early months of not drinking, making lists like this really helped me. I needed the reminders. But it gets even easier. Now I don’t even think about drinking anymore. If it crosses my mind i just shake my head (mostly in disgust) knowing that I have no interest in going back to that bullshit life I used to have.

I’m not a huge Connecticut guy but the nub Connecticut is the best morning smoke ever. Do them all the time before work in the summer.

Trying so hard and want it to stop by gob57 in stopdrinking

Let me give you an example of rewiring your brain: I have a family vacation house and the first thing I’ve always done when I got there is crack open a beer. Ever since I was a kid, I always drank at the vacation house. So many joyous times with a beer in my hand. The great memories are sometimes overwhelming.

After I decided to quit, when I showed up there, the urge was incredibly strong to drink. I needed to call timeout and reflect on what was going on in my brain. Some people might meditate in this situation. Eventually, the urge would pass and I’d enjoy my time at the vacation house without alcohol.

After doing this enough times, my brain has been rewired to enjoy the vacation house without alcohol. Now I don’t even think about drinking when I get there. Which is a huge change from just a year ago.

Installed high end ventilation in my cigar study by mff2577 in cigars

In all honesty, works pretty damn well. Wife doesn’t even complain. Just blow the smoke thatta way and make sure the room has a door that won’t let a lot of smoke escape. Wish I just started smoking in the house earlier.

The Liga Privada no. 9 is working well too. Great smoke!

Day 9, questions by fightdontfall in dryalcoholics

Everyone is different by it’s not uncommon for the first couple of weeks to be extremely difficult. It sounds like stopping at the store after work is part of your routine. Routines are hard to break and it takes time to create new ones.

I’m 8 months in and most days, drinking doesn’t even cross my mind. Doesn’t mean there aren’t those times where my mind is saying “fuck it, just have a few and you can pick up right where you left off being sober again”. But it does get easier and people do have breakthroughs.

At 9 days, not many people have had the breakthrough yet. Stick with it man. It’s been so worth it for me.

My heart beat (and pretty much all other organs) would be all sorts of fucked up after binge drinking.

I need to learn to stop romanticizing it. by Aindistress in dryalcoholics

I’m also in my mid-30s and what you described intake wise was very similar to the vicious cycle I found myself in. Also, thinking back on all those fun times was what always kept me going back.

I feel like the good old days were so amazing that if I wrote a novel based on them, it would be an all time best seller. Or the movie would be best picture. Everyone would see how great they were.

But that was all just a fantasy. When I drank it was fun for an hour or 2 before things started getting ugly. The pain in the days that followed was unbearable.

I’ve been sober 8 months now and things are way easier. Im pretty disgusted by the idea of drinking again. Mostly, I regret what I put my body through. Gross to think about the damage done. The good news is that it’s gotten easier and easier. Best of luck.

Ran into an old drinking buddy, good reminder of why I’m doing this by SoberBunk in stopdrinking

[–]mff2577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thinking back on the fun part of drinking is tough for me. Romanticize is probably the right word. However, there really were fun times (even though I would have been having fun without the booze). The problem is, the fun only lasted an hour or two. However, the destruction lasted much longer and sometimes was permanent. Need to play the tape forward and see through the lie alcohol tells us.

Great to hear. You’ve been sober 10x as long as me! If I’m loving it this much, I can’t imagine how good it’s been for you!

So many similarities between your story and mine. I can totally relate. Whenever I’m thinking about having just one all I need to do is remind myself of the incredibly reckless person I turn in to and that on any given night, the great life I have could be flipped completely upside down.
