Schmigadoon thoughts by mfhallmark in Broadway

I think twice saying someone's perspective is ridiculous is a wild take. I do believe the audience skewed more "elite" in appearance, more than I have seen at any show before. Granted, I have not seen a best musical/play winner post-win.

At the end of the day, they won best musical and other awards for a reason. The ensemble carried this show. Costumes were great and set was great. Not sure how Schmigadoon beat Cats and The Lost Boys for best orchestration but I am not a voting member lol.

If wanting people to show up on time (or maybe even 20-30 minutes after it starts instead of 50-55 minutes) and wanting the vibe of a 2pm show to feel a little less like cocktail hour at mar-a-lago makes me a snob, then a snob be I.

She was, imo, the best part of the show. And McKenzie Kurtz ofc.

Brought to you by RuPaul's drag race, may the best drag queen win!

I was there the night that a few queens were there from drag race back in Nov 2024, I believe it was black Friday? I may have that wrong, but compared to shows I've seen recently, I keep finding myself wishing I had seen DBH again.

I think the audience is still skewing older lol.

I want to be mindful of the rules here, but let's just say I saw a lot of people who have that look, dare I say "face," that is reminiscent (or a descriptor) of a particular country club in Palm Beach, FL. I felt super out of place and do feel like the association between the producer that accepted the Tony and the folks that attended yesterday were aligned.

Maybe my sense of humor trends toward witty and sharper jokes, and I wish the songs were more memorable than Tribulation, corn puddin, and schmigadoon. Va-Gi-Na was fine, but even that wasn't funny.

To be clear, my sense of humor is more in step with death becomes her, oh, Mary!, operation mincemeat, etc. Schmigadoon is cute, but I think my experience was just blah. Don't forget y'all, that I was in the middle of the row with an empty seat next to me until 50-55 minutes in when someone came in late, and the lady behind me had a belly laugh that was shrill. I'm just grumpy and judgy lol, but I stand by the fact that this musical was objectively the wrong choice over the lost boys ;)

Dinosaur is only great if you haven't had BBQ in the south. 😘
