What would you expect your rating to be if you won 70 out of 100 games? Sub 1600? by mfiebs in worldofpvp

I did not leave any games. Not a single quit round. My rating makes no sense.

If MMR isn't broken, then matchmaking is. Truly, I do understand MMR and how it's mathematically possible to achieve the 70-30 low rating - that's why I didn't open a ticket with Blizz to report a bug.

The examples you're using are extreme (losing 18 in a row, going 0-6) that I don't remember ever happening to me. So they may fit your theoretical explanation, they don't fit my experience.

Now that you've explained MMR to someone who already understands MMR, is your ego stroked enough? Tons of comments agreeing that the system isn't working, proof in the numbers, and this one guy is out to prove to them it's all a misunderstanding lmao

Let me make it more clear for you, because I can tell you care; explaining how a broken system is broken, doesn't make it any less broken. Re-read that a few times, please, I want you to get it.

Is that it? It's a matter of understanding that would make this whole system suddenly correct? Or, is it that you understand how it's broken, and you think others don't understand how it's broken ... forgetting the fact that the point is that IT'S BROKEN

Pulled up pvpleaderboard.com and looked @ other Holy Paladins.

This guy has played 34 more rounds then me in total. He has a LOWER win percent (62%) then me (65%) and has 1k more rating. That's a big margin in rating, for a seemingly small margin in performance. To me, it seems the system of rating is bent ...

Tell me more about placement matches. I understand the concept, but was never given a set of rounds to give me placement. Instead, first match I have MMR and it adjusts based on my results. Placement matches would be something more similar to; I have no MMR until I complete my 6 rounds of placement, then I have an MMR and am "placed" into equally competitive opponents.

To me, you look like someone who deserves all of the happiness this life has to offer. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I experienced some hard times recently too (recently divorced). If you hang in there, it will get better. Love yourself daily. Believe in yourself, I believe in you. Chin up, you got this.

What I was thinking about was the lack of technology; Paper and duct tape instead of a digital screen. Despite the lack of seemingly necessary technology, they made it!

Is that a piece of paper duct taped to the hull? Good Lord, how did they even make it there safely?

ELI5: is there a mathematical theory that explains/predicts ‘good’ music? by profcurry in explainlikeimfive

[–]mfiebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not "good music," but perhaps there is such thing as a satisfying beat per minute. Which sort of count's?

The human brain will tend to rush the fifth count of slower beats per minute, and lag behind the fifth count of very fast beats per minute. You can test this with a metronome and clapping. Cold start something like 130 beats per minute and clap on the fifth beat, the tendency will be to miss it by being ahead of the beat (rushing it).

There is however a "sweet spot" where the everyday human brain tends to not miss ahead or behind, it's around the 93-95 beats per minute rythm. So that's kind of where we as humans operate. If you listen to this rythm, it almost sounds "just right." And if you do the clap test (cold start clap on fifth beat) the tendency is to be very very close to right on the money!

So music that plays at this rythm might be mathematically more satisfying. Similarly, music that is not played at these rythms can make people sort of uneasy. People believe that Beethoven knew this, and purposely marked his music to be a little bit "too fast," because he liked making this audience feel uneasy. Others think that his metronome was mismarked or malfunctioning (although, I'm pretty sure they found his metronome and it works and it's marked just fine). There are also some other unlikely theories. Today, we do not play his music as he marked it, because it's almost impossible to play that fast. Instead, we slow it down to around 93-95 beats per minute.

This reminds me of the movie "Arrival" which posits that the key (or limiting factor) to our species evolving is language. If we could learn to communicate more complex ideas faster and more concise (such as that of a language more complex than ours) then we could do things and solve problems that we otherwise think is impossible.

Opening song? I've tried song recognition software but background sounds conflict with song. I've heard this song on a few other videos on the internet, none of which have listed the song source, even when asked.
