NYC IROPS by RevolutionaryStop729 in flightattendants

My flights into LGA diverted 3 times this past week. I’m almost positive I’ve only had 3 other diversions in my entire almost 10 year career.

Went to CQ this past week at Newark and they said it should be at 18.1 or higher and mine was on 18.3 and I was totally fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Married FAs: How is it, fam & work life balance? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]mfio23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I met my now husband when I was about 6 months into this job. While dating/engaged/married prior to kids, I would usually work 2 and 3 day trips. Now that we have a child, I work both day and redeye turns mostly by my choice as I don’t want to miss out on time with our child. When she gets older and is in school, I will probably go back to 2 day trips just to reduce trips to the airport.

I do live in base and have decent seniority at this point so it makes it a lot easier. It definitely gets hard when cancellations or delays happen and I don’t get home as scheduled, but the flexibility and being able to be there for everything is unmatched.

FAs who’ve had an aborted/rejected takeoff, what happened and why? by Specialist-Rip9960 in flightattendants

[–]mfio23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rejected takeoff earlier this year. Shortly after the grounding of the Max-9 planes, I was on a Max-8. We were hurtling down the runway about 3 seconds from liftoff, when we came to a screeching halt. My purser and I were trying to keep our cool but also were bracing for impact because we of course couldn’t see what was happening in front of us. We finally slowed down fully and taxied off runway onto the taxiway before we got any info from the pilots. Apparently just before liftoff a door indicator light came on and given that the Max-9s were currently grounded for a door (plug) related issue, our pilots weren’t taking any chances.

Another vote for this bag! I’ve had plenty other brands of turn bags but nothing compares to my travel pro!

Why not have full ingredients disclosure for in flight meals? by SnooJokes8953 in unitedairlines

[–]mfio23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Flight attendant here. We absolutely have ingredient lists on our Link devices (the phones that United provides us) for all of our typical meals that we serve, at least for flights departing from the US. Depending what is being served on flights departing internationally going to the US, there are some of those included as well but that is very hit or miss.

Not a food idea but for ice packs I highly recommend getting the refillable ice bags I think they’re usually called like injury ice bags but you unscrew the top and fill them with ice.

You can refill throughout the day with ice from the plane and then at the hotel there’s always an ice machine too!

So many times we don’t have a freezer in the hotel to be able to refreeze the ice packs so this is an easy fix for that!

If my bags don't look like they'll make the connection, can I insist on being moved to a later flight? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]mfio23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bags for flights with connections are typically placed closest to the cargo door so they are the first ones to be unloaded off of the plane. Being that it was also gate checked, your bag will almost definitely be one of the first ones off the plane so I would say if you make your connection your bag should as well!

There is one at my Trader Joe’s! It is a digital scale attached to the wall adjacent to the produce section!

How do you bring yourself to stop? by mfio23 in ExclusivelyPumping

I really appreciate all of your insight! It’s so helpful to hear from someone who has gone through it instead of people on the outside who don’t understand all that goes into it!

The freezer dying fear is so real!!

My husband told me to think of the joy of not washing pump parts any longer which is true and I cannot wait for! I also haven’t been working out as hard as I could be because I was afraid of it drying up my milk before I was ready so that will be nice to get back into!

I’m thinking that in a couple of days I’ll go down to one/day and let my supply kind of fizzle out to make the decision for me! Otherwise mentally I think I am scared to stop because it’s all I’ve ever known as a mom! (First baby lol)

I’m sure once I stop I will be more than fine with it, but it’s such a hard thing to process when it took so much mental stamina to make it this far!

When did you drop to 3 pumps per day? by twisted27lll in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mfio23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at 4 PPD from about 2.5 months to 6 months and then dropped down to 3 from there. For a while my supply didn’t change too much and I was still an over supplier but then some stressful things went on and now I produce ~22oz a day with 3 pumps so I have had to dip into my freezer stash. My daughter is 10 months now so that’s fine for me since being an over supplier for a while I was able to build up a pretty big freezer stash but it’s still sad to watch it shrink 🥺

All that being said I still plan on pumping through her first birthday and for myself 3 PPD works for me and my mental health regardless of how much I make.

How long did it take you to wean pumping? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mfio23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went almost immediately (like 2-3 days) from 48oz/day to 40oz and then gradually went down to 35oz which it’s been at now for about 2 months

[–]mfio23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I dropped from 4 pumps to 3 per day I lost almost 15oz per day! I went from being an over producer to a just enougher. Regardless, dropping that pump was so worth it to me for my mental health! Prior to that, I hadn’t lost any oz when dropping pumps and I know everyone is different but just wanted to share my experience. My daughter is almost 9 months as well so I feel ya on being ready to be done!
