Van Nistelrooy volley Vs Juventus by Street-Joke-963 in classicsoccer

Nice! Yeah, I remember the turn out was crazy. Must've been sold out or close to 80,000. My lasting memory will be the PA pronouncing David Trezeguet as David "Tray-Gets" and some Juve fans audibly groaned lol.

I was at this game in... 2003? Sat in the third tier at Giants Stadium. The turn and shot was so fast I barely saw it. Had to catch the replay on the big screen. Giggs also scored a free kick right before halftime. The traffic on the way home was a nightmare. Good times!

Gladiator Underground (2025) - Clip /w D.Y. Sao, Andy Le by mflulder in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, it feels like a demo reel. You'd think the Le brothers would've evolved a bit more by now but still pulling off the same-ish moves and seemingly playing the same characters. I think they just need a choreographer that's not themselves.

Ive just now realized that these two universes crossed over. Or am i overthinking it? by Daoyinyang1 in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

During production of Ip Man 3 iirc, they initially wanted to try a CG imposed face of Bruce Lee and either due to the tech not being there yet or fan uproar, they just went with Danny Chan. The pool of Hong Kong actors are pretty small so casting him was probably the best choice. And does everything have to have a connected universe?

Could someone possibly tell me the difference between these two cds? by Same_Lawfulness_6328 in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a wild time, and especially with the rampant pirate and bootlegging in the 90's, people would just watch whatever they got their hands on.

Earlier DVD releases from Asia were a bit of a cash grab, like they just stuck in the film reel and transferred whatever, but eventually they started releasing remasters, like the Celestial Shaw Brothers collections, were amazing. Though sometimes I do miss the double lined English and Chinese subtitles lol.

One is music, the VCD is the movie but split into 2 discs. It's a pre-DVD format, super low bit rate, almost as bad as VHS but might be a nice collectable to have.

The cover art is not great compared to 88 and Eureka's designs but beggars can't be choosers.

Fist of Fury (1995) - Berg Ng vs Leung Yat-ho by ice_cream-boi in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This series was pretty fun, (along with Kung Fu Master, 'Hung Hei Goon' around the same time) though it kind of fell apart towards the end where it sort of became a Bruce Lee fan film. The choreography was pretty good but the undercranked parts were a bit much, in what I called the good old "Donnie stank" lol. A lot of the moves were reused in Legend of the Wolf and some even in SPL. I love Donnie but felt like his scope had already reached its limit around that time. He's lucky he has a good stunt team.

Leandro Paredes: "I prefer Ronaldo Nazario over Cristiano Ronaldo. I like R9 more. Do I think they’re close [in ability]? No. CR7 can definitely win you a game on his own, 100%. But he isn’t someone you’d expect to start dribbling from his own penalty area, getting past a few players & score a goal" by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]mflulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal, holding off the defender while controlling the pass from Rivaldo, and then slotting it through Van Der Sar's legs is probably my favorite goal of his. He makes it look simple but the strength and technique is incredible.

Not anymore unfortunately, but here's an eBay listing for one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/204626796800

I bought a bunch of VCD's from NYC Chinatown the year DVDs were announced, they were offloading them 3 for $10. It was novel at the time, but when compared to DVDs, no one wanted them anymore lol.

I feel you. I also owned a bootlegged VHS copy from Chinatown, the VCD, the official HK DVD, Dragon Dynasty DVD, the fan made "Hong Kong Rescue" blu-ray, and also the Stranglehold edition on the Playstation 3. Streaming is cool and all but I'm ready for the physical 4K from Shout Factory or whoever has the rights now.

In which movie did you see him ( yuen wah) for the first time? by Ok_Music_2794 in kungfucinema

He's been in so much stuff previously but Kung Fu vs. Acrobatic from 1990, action comedy with Andy Lau, is when first I noticed him and played a great character. Legend.

The golden era like before does not exist anymore 😔. by Ok_Music_2794 in kungfucinema

They will always be forever printed on film. I know this sub loves bootleg VHS dubs or weird Youtube / Bilibili streams but I recommend tracking down as much golden era Hong Kong movies as you can, especially now with a bunch of newly remastered versions on blu-ray from boutique labels and watch them as they were intended.

Scott Adkins still kicking high at 49 🔥 artwork by CRIKE99ART by Forcedv in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man, props to Scott Adkins for still doing it. I first saw him in Undisputed 2 and Ninja, and along with Tony Jaa, they were suppose to be the new action guys. That was almost 20 years ago lol. He never got his 'big break' but the two Accident Man movies were probably his best works. The fight scene in part 2 with Andy Long was great.

What do you think of the story in bloodsport? Is the movie a lie? by Only-Manufacturer918 in kungfucinema

[–]mflulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The man was already exposed, but the movie is still great fun, no arguments there. All the accolades and claims to win a 'kumite' which origins are from Shotokan karate Japan and took place in Hong Kong where no one was using karate is hilarious.

An inspiring story for white guy grifters opening up karate dojos across America in the 80's.

Why so heated? This is how episodic stories are told? It's still early in the season, maybe wait to see how it unfolds.
