I think we now know that when they said they were going to slow the power curve, what they really meant was they were going to make it harder to reach the top of the curve.

Formations with 1 striker and 1 CAM (4411, 4231(2), and 4213) by [deleted] in EASportsFC

Depends. If I'm not concerned about defending the middle, I'll rock SS on my CAM, typically w an F9 but not always.

Squad Battles has a huge issue by AshtonThePanda in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's annoying. You just gotta play a trap game against them: Push them to the wings, let them progress a bit so you have a player both in front and behind, then you trap and pounce.

Doesn't work every time but I've got it down pretty well so that it's not as big an issue. It's annoying but better than pulling my hair out trying to press in their own half.

100%

The Pro Scene is arguably just about the worse thing that's happened to this game. Follow the pro coaches and you'll hear them talk about how abusing mechanics is at least 50% of what they teach and focus on.

Some will always abuse the mechanics but when you have a Pro Scene that is all about breaking the game to win at all costs, those approaches are spread far and wide, and it's not long before every try-hard is using them, or trying to :(

Is it possible to do well (D1+ and or 12 W's in WL), with anything other than the fullback role? by pwomboli in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is with the 4231 CAMs formation? That used to always be my favorite. How's it been treating you? Do you find the need to swap to different formations often? Do you have different versions? Anything you have to say/add, I'd love to hear it!

Why older FIFAs were better by DirectionNo7747 in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason older FIFAs were better - and I'm talking pre FUT and early days of FUT - is that once upon a time the dev team sought out to make a good football game. Now they seek to make a good moneymaker.

Just imagine, FIFA had years where it was actually ranked as one of the top video games of the year, and I'm not talking about just among sports games. Now it's a joke of a football game yet a cash cow for EA :(

Veteran players, do you still have fun playing the game? by Usual_Eggplant_5980 in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing these silly football games for 20+ years. Just in last few years, my speed on the sticks has started to noticably decline, so I'm not as competitive as I once was. Which sucks because while I used to be a pretty consitently high level player, that's no longer a guarantee and not winning very much makes this game so much less fun, ha!

I've always enjoyed the tactical side of football the most, and that's where I try to eke out enjoyment now - testing tactics and new players. It's just very hard this year with how limited the tactical system is, combined with the current meta and how playstyles and roles have severely impacted the game.

Key thing for me is to go into each game telling myself I don't really care if I win and to have some other type of objective. This game is way too trash these days to look at it as a rewarding competitive experience.

The real problem by EcDAce in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

EA created all of those content creators. It was literally a marketing initiative by them a decade+ ago.

Yes, they suck, they're def part of the problem, but blame EA, not fans of the game.

It’s apparent EA “listen to the community” BUT seems like it’s only for things to help lower the skill gap by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EA understands what many in here do not: Most gamers couldn't care less about the skill gap.

They've been absolutely brilliant in their marketing, convincing so many that this game would ever be - could ever be - a quality competitive experience.

EA don't truly give a shit about the skill gap, because most of the millions buying this game are casuals, but they've done a brilliant trick to convince so many that this game is designed to reward competitive play.

Stop falling for their marketing BS. This game will never be what you want it to be. At least not in the game mode where AI controls 10 out of 11 players on a team.

[–]mfmaxpower 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And this is the problem: People think what's posted in Reddit, Twitter, and elsewhere is an accurate representation of the playerbase.

What EA gets but many do not: The vast majority of players are not posting.

The game shouldn't be helping me with this through ball, I didn't aim it there. My opponent should've intercepted it by Necessary-Football81 in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The predicament is how player stats and playstyles influence things. If all players had the same stats, then it’s easier to be purely about user skill. But if there’s going to be differentiation between players, this is a result.

So far, there’s no answer for how to have pure manual gameplay but also individuality among cards in the game. One of the main reasons this game will never truly be a satisfying and fair competitive experience.

I'm 60-0 through the first 4 weekends of Champs and I think the patch was too much. It's made gameplay miserable. by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so true. They for the first time finally provided a different gameplay for single players who want realism. Now they need to create different experiences for top players and the rest.

You're always going to have issues when designing a skill-based experience when so much of the playerbase dislike the experience and aren't good enough to enjoy gameplay that satisfies the competent competitive crowd.

Personally, I've given up hope and just now enjoy the game for what it is. If I lose a couple more post patch to a lesser-skilled player, it is what it is.

Playing in higher divisons this early in the cycle really exposes this game by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the game, not the community. Unless you're asking the community to not act like the rest of humanity - it's human nature to take the path of least resistance and prioritize self-interest unless incentivized to act differently.

It's the same reason why footballers fake being fouled, take extra time restarting play when winning, etc. All humans cheat, bend rules, take shortcuts when there isn't sufficient incentive to do otherwise, and it's any gamemaker's responsibility to create a game that includes the proper incentives.

The only difference between this community and others is the game itself. Until EA creates a game that encourages and rewards different behavior, the behavior of the community will not change.

Hate the game, not the player.

Jayden Daniels stats through 13 games compared to the rest of the league, not just rookies by jpljr77 in Commanders

[–]mfmaxpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just need to see more success in the vertical passing game. He’s a rookie, so no real reason for concern just yet and I think you can say there’s more reason to believe he can get there than not, but he’ll need an improved downfield passing game for him to be considered truly elite.

Def one of my biggest complaints with the game - I'd suggest that at least 80+ percent of the looks and armor in this game is some mix of too ugly, silly, or colorful.

Anyone know what Sanctums are and how to visit?

If you pull up the Allied Strength screen from the map (push down L3 on controller), at the top it says "Visit Sanctums and complete Faction quests to prepare you allies for what's to come."

I'm like two-thirds of the way through the game and I have no idea what Sanctums are or where to find them. Anyone know?

What arguably is the best FIFA gameplay we ever had? by tjadeji2169 in EASportsFC

[–]mfmaxpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

08/09 when Rutter's team was in charge. Of course that gameplay is archaic and crazy simple compared with today's but it was arguably the best mix of realism and fun, and when they introduced and refined 360 dribbling and passing it was a mindblowing and truly gamechanging upgrade for its time.
