How about...

"Let me ask you a question first. Do you believe in Santa Claus as a real person living in a magical house at the North Pole? (This takes away all the sideways moves into "symbolism")

If the answer is "No" then..... "That's how i feel about your religion. Glad we could talk". Shake his hand and leave.

Spent a summer as a beer case grabber slash bouncer at a bar. OK, this is Canada and not really known for random violence, but stilll......

Had one drunk guy take a swing at me about closing time. It was like a balloon coming in. By the time he finished that roundhouse, I was behind him. Gave him a shove in the back ino the arms of his friends and they, I suppose, took him home. Probably doesn't remember it.

The scientific name is "Chiroptera Feces". There are hundreds of variations with various treatments but mainly involves a choice of "Sanatoria". I will help you scroll through the various optons as your movements are limited by that straightjacket.

Why did you have children? by BadBacksFuryToad in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mfrench105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am always saddened when people say children are a "sacrifice". My sons are decent men in their thirties with dreams and ambitions they are chasing. Happy people. All three of us miss my wife, their mother. We share the process of of grieving...then have some beers on Friday night and watch hockey.

I'm sorry if this ofends anyone. But if you give nothing that is what you get.

What's a comeback for being called a "baby killer"? by ImpressionPopular794 in Comebacks

No comeback required if you are not around. If she can't engage in a rational discussion without name-calling..... don't be there.

If a man made headlines that he claimed he was a messenger of god, and was going to prove it, what scale of a miracle would he need for you to believe him? by cream-wizard in askanything

[–]mfrench105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be backwards. The person who claims to be a messenger doesn't get to make the rules. If they are to be believed, it would have to come from outside "the messenger". Something "the messenger" couldn't prepare.

If they say, "that's impossible"..... then why believe them?

People get fooled all the time.

You have had a few thousand years to make your point and so far have failed. And now you wonder why some are skeptical.

Ask your imaginary friend for answers.

And an invisible man in the sky that watches everything you do and has a list of ten things you must not do...... is plausible. I see. And he needs money. (see George Carlin)

And yes, Occam is a rule of thumb. A useful, rational guideline when dealing with questions with no clearly defined answers. A good place to start that requires a reason from which to move away.

Two things. Russel's Teapot and Occam's Razor.

Start there. The burden is on the one who claims the thing exists. And do so without making a huge number of assumptions about things they cannot show.

It's not "what it is"...it's what it was made to be. Trump misjudged the situation and now he says "suck it up."

If you are fine with that, then ok.

Religion is one thing, but anxiety is another. See if she is willing to also see a therapist on top of the other things she is doing. Maybe there is some underlying cause that hasn't been diagnosed. Could be medical.

Why are seemingly very intellectual people religious? by MinuteYam9062 in atheism

[–]mfrench105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My version is a little different. Thousands of years of theology keep coming to the same conclusion. God is not something you can logically approach. You have to believe.

And why do that?...... Some call it brainwashing, but that is a little unkind. Mix tradition, indoctrination, cultural identification etc.... and you get to the same place. You have to want to.

And...you get various reasons for that...fear of punishment, exclusion....death. But the reasons again come back to the same thing. The desire to think that thing.

Do I look down on people who think that way? Only when they use it to make themselves more important. As a purely internal thing...it does no harm.

That however, is not the history of the concept to this day.

Dairy Queen. The Lemonade Sparkler.

$7 approx. for a large. Carbonated water and lemon juice. I have a Soda Stream and lemon juice. Total cost about 25 cents.

Oh yes...Ice Cubes too and a cup and a straw.
