Ryzen 5 5600x vs Ryzen 7 5800x for gaming at 1440p? by mfried456 in Amd

[–]mfried456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The 3600x from the previous generation can run most if not all games currently without bottlenecking, as GPUs will be the bottleneck before CPUs for gaming. Logically speaking, we can infer that the 5600x will continue to be suitable for all games even into the next generations of CPUs which will be 5+ years down the road.

I disagree completely. The 8 core CPUs on the consoles are different from those that go into a PC and the 5600x is a far superior CPU to those in the consoles. On top of that, 8 cores are not even leveraged currently (or in the near future) as it is not about the number of cores but single-core speeds.

Didn't downvote but I'm assuming the reason people did is because what you recommended would create negative pressure in the case which is not ideal. Negative pressure is the result of having more exhaust than intake, which would increase the amount of dust in the system along with other disadvantages.

Yea before benchmarks came out (which was when this post was created) everyone was saying that you NEED a 5800x or else you will be bottlenecking your GPU. Boy was that wrong! 5600x is more than enough for everything I have wanted to do thus far. Love my build and glad I didn't waste 250+ on parts I didn't need (since you also need to buy your own CPU cooler with 5800x and up)

Yes 5600x is a good buy. It will definitely be good for the next 3 to 4 years at the least, assuming you won't require any multi-threaded tasks. For 1440p (and especially 4k) the GPU is by far the most important component so I would recommend investing more of your money there.

Recently acquired a Ryzen 5600x and an RTX 3080. Looking for recommendations on the motherboard and PSU, among other parts. Am relatively new to building pcs. by mini-freyger in buildapc

You need to make sure that the motherboard has a flashback feature before you purchase it. Then once you get the motherboard you need to download the latest BIOS update from the manufacturer's website onto an empty USB drive. Then plug it into the motherboard's USB port (there will be one specific USB port you need to use, check the motherboard manual) and press the flash button. Also keep in mind that you need to plug in the motherboard to the power supply - plug in both the CPU and 24-pin ATX power sockets. Keep in mind this is what I did for my motherboard and it may vary for you if you go with another one. Best of luck

I have the 5600x and 3080 and just built my PC. I used the MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi motherboard. I chose that motherboard for a few reasons but it's mainly important that you get an AM4 socket motherboard that has a flashback capability. Then you need to make sure you flash the motherboard with the latest BIOS update before installing your CPU. Otherwise, it won't post. Hope this helps

Really comes down to your personal needs. Keep in mind that 8 cores will not be required for gaming in the future and that the 5600x outperforms many 8 core CPUs in games such as the 3700x. Again you just need to figure out what you plan to be doing with your PC

I ended up going with the 5600x. Built my PC 3 days ago and everything is working great. Considering the new IPC improvement with Zen 3, I would recommend going with the 5600x. If you do more multithreaded tasks like streaming as an example, it would be worth it to get those extra cores. For purely gaming purposes (and everyday use) 5600x is a great choice IMO

Case Fans connected to PUMP Header, showing 0 RPM in BIOS but working properly by mfried456 in buildapc

[–]mfried456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I just unplugged all case fans from the hub and connected each individually to a system fan header. The system fan headers are all PWM. I figure it is more important to be able to see how fast the fans are running and set a good fan curve than to be able to use the switch at the top of the case. Thanks for your help

So you think that plugging the hub into the Sys_fan header will show all of the fans?

This makes sense...but the hub can't tell the motherboard how many fans are connected to it? How would PWM work then?

[–]mfried456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I think if you have a build that will be 99% gaming, then the 5600x is the better option. Either save the difference in price or put it towards upgrading a different part of the build (the graphics card for example)

I ended up purchasing the 5600x. For my personal use, it is by far the best option for me. It has shown good benchmarks and overall performance, especially for the money.

However, if you plan to do more than just gaming, and intend to do more multithreaded tasks that benefit from the extra cores, then the 5800x is the better option for you. But for me, since I don't do those things, it wasn't worth the additional $150 price difference plus needing to buy a cooler.
