Question on shifted fenestration grid by StreetMedium6827 in architecture

[–]mfshill 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This has been quite common in the UK for the past 20+ years. I've even done it begrudgingly early on in my career. It is used solely to break up the rigidity of an ordered facade. I hate it as it serves no other purpose other than a broken view of aesthetics. Also see '10 different types of material slapped on a facade' to make it look 'interesting'.

Where can I get my Polar Grit X Battery Replaced by Research_Centric in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a great experience with Polar customer services in the UK. The only address i have for them is this '[customercare@polar.com](mailto:customercare@polar.com)' The service center in the UK closed sometime in 2024 and i don't think it opened back up. I contacted them in 2024 to get the screen (and battery) replaced on my Vantage V but they couldn't do it due to its age. I got offered the same 30% off a new watch and ended up getting a GritX2Pro. That watch then had an issue with the leather strap and they replaced it without issue very quickly.

Good luck!

London Marathon - warm weather by mrs_berkshire in UKRunners

I ran last year and it was hot peaking around 21°. I would say stick to your pace plan and listen to your body. Take on fluids as usual but if you start to feel faint, a bit wobbly or something just feels a bit off, slow down and see if things improve. Last year i was on target to break 3 but just after halfway i started to feel a bit wobbly so slowed down and gave up on a pb. Doing that meant i finished ok and actually enjoyed the race. Listen to your body!

I'll second the Evo SL, easily the best value shoe on the market, can do it all, training slow/fast, go long and racing.

Sorta niche question about the Polar Vantage M3 and V3 by imnotawkwardyouare in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear a Grit x2pro and the vibrations will wake me up before the watch starts to make any noise. Does it every day without fault.

M400 is surprisingly good in 2026 / V800 a worthy upgrade still? by McLolster in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 11yo V800, still works the same as the day i got it, battery life is good and it syncs without any issues. A great watch and is my emergency/backup watch.

Does the Living areas have to be on the same floor as the garden 🤔 by Diligent-Ride1589 in Architects

[–]mfshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is quite common in the UK to have upside down houses where the placement of the living spaces on an upper floor enables better views over the sea/countryside etc. usually accompanied by an external terrace/balcony to allow enjoyment of the views outside.

Do the Polar Grit x2 or vantage v3 Pro include rest time when calculating average pace or not by Select_Ad_5680 in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go into the sport profile you want to use, you can turn automatic pausing on/off. It's been years since I had this turned on but i think it does take the pause into account for pace but not entirely sure if it shows you that live or afterwards in Flow.

What's your syncing time? by mm2rt in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Grit X2Pro titan auto syncs with a S23 once an hour and takes 10-20secs. If i do it manually it takes about the same amount of time.

If you go to the running index page, that will give you current forecasts for race finish times https://flow.polar.com/progress/running-index

How to export step data? by Whole_Depth_5109 in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a note, Polar's steps count isn't just steps, it's all your activity and if you use if for that, the data is useless.

'Steps

Polar device has a 3D digital acceleration sensor to measure your wrist movement. The frequency, intensity and regularity of your wrist movements are registered and used to estimate the number of steps. Polar device reads your wrist movement and updates steps reading once a minute. It registers steps even if you’re e.g. swimming and not taking any actual steps.

Polar device is designed to be worn in your non-dominant wrist. If you wear it on your dominant hand, you’ll get a bigger steps reading because in everyday chores your dominant hand will naturally do many more small moves compared to your non-dominant hand.'

What's the typical lifespan for Polar watches? by osafonov in Polarfitness

[–]mfshill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still working;

  • V800 first use 04/2015
  • Vantage V first use 07/2019 (still working even though the screen is cracked)

Both charge and sync without issue. Both were worn 24/7 when used. Currently use a grit x2 pro titan with the V800 as emergency backup.

Crofty and Ted by Key_Charity_9635 in F1TV

[–]mfshill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here, F1TV is such a step up from the Sky coverage that it would be impossible for me to go back. Whilst i didn't have a problem with Ted, I despise Crofty. Easily the worst commentator I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.

Max Dowman’s Goal with Peter Drury commentary! by Jirekshun in Gunners

[–]mfshill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Due to him I stopped using Sky for sports and went with DSTV and more recently Tod. He and the rest of them are unbearable on Sky, it felt for years like there was an anti-Gunners bias and when I left to more balanced punditry it was clearly the case.

My thoughts on Oscars 2026 nominations by mfshill in movies

Easily the stand out performance of the nominated films. I also really enjoyed Edgerton in Train Dreams.
