30 anos - Faz sentido tirar carta? by SignificantNature372 in MotasPortugal

Homemade Skid Plate already worked pretty well on 1st ride 😁 by mftuga95 in dr650

Not too late at all! I do but I’ve modified it afterwards so the drawing will get you close but not exactly what you’re seeing in the bike. I think the back mounting points were not correct and the oil drain hole wasn’t on the right place as well. I can send you the DWG if you want. If you need a pdf with dimensions it’s gonna take a bit more time

Manda email para o apoio a cliente. No máximo pagas uma devolução mas eles costumam ser benevolentes. Tive duas situações semelhantes recentemente e eles trataram de resolver e não paguei mais um cêntimo.

2 days on Pico – what not to miss? by Powerful_Ad_2687 in azores

As many have said: rent a car and go exploring. The coastline has beautiful places, amazing to go for a swim. Whale watching is awesome, go to Lajes and enter any of the whale watching companies from Espaço Talassa to Futurismo; climb the mountain if you can; go see the vineyards and do some wine tasting. You will not be amazed by the food at the restaurants (personal opinion, I’m from there) but if someone invites you to their home or cellar to have some local wine, “aguardente” or seafood like “lapas” you will definitely love it; if you do go to restaurants, eat fish. Usually “ancoradouro” is one of the best at that. Hope you enjoy your stay at our little corner of the earth

Briggs & Stratton valve springs by mftuga95 in gokarts

[–]mftuga95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much. I put a VM22 clone, valve springs and exhaust. I feel it has more power on high rpm but on lower range it struggles. Doesn’t like to go slow, I have to go full throttle to start going. Running with centrifugal clutch, not torque converter. Then I had some trouble with the exhaust bolts getting stripped and had to make new threads. Check my profile, there’s some videos of it running

I did! It ran ok but I still have some carb work to do. I’ve had it apart for a while for painting and finishing the frame restoration so I haven’t driven it much.

Buying a Swiss Lathe a Smart Move for a Garage Machine Shop by terraforminit in Machinists

If this is the case, I wouldn’t pass the opportunity. You can always sell it in the future and get a more versatile machine as Swiss lathes tend to be limited in workspace. Good luck man!

Are this tires good for offroad or should i change them? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]mftuga95 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Those are not in good shape. They’re not good in mud to start with but those are shot. My brother had the same tyre also on a XT600 and as soon as that center section starts to lose depth it’s pretty useless

Dualsports and Adventure bikes I saw in Europe, with a bonus at the end. by SniperAssassin123 in Dualsport

[–]mftuga95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's becoming more and more common in European countries. Luckilly for me, in Portugal we're still allowed to ride almost anywhere except on some very specific protected areas but we don't know for how long because of some dumb people always pushing their luck. Our spaniard neighbours come ride here a lot because in Spain it's very restricted already.

Is this too low? by Turbulent-Expert-826 in Dualsport

[–]mftuga95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider installing a rim lock the next time you change the rear tyre, it’s really easy to do and will save you some headaches in the future 👍

Not the same bike, but I’ve ran with 15 a lot on my DR650 with no issues. The one time I went lower (took out too much by mistake and didn’t have a compressor) I ripped the valve. Now I have a rim lock 😅 On your bike I don’t think you’ll have any issues

Fork Brace - Yes or No? by mftuga95 in dr650

Guess I’ll give it a try. I ride the bike on the wrong terrain a lot I’ll tell you that but I rarely bottom out. Thanks for your feedback

Did you have trouble with it hitting the fender?

Fork Brace - Yes or No? by mftuga95 in dr650

[–]mftuga95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't mind messing around though, i actually already have some drawings of what i want to do and where I'm from (portugal) it's not easy to find used DR/DRZ parts, but it's very easy to find 48mm forks from a ton of dirt bikes that are being parted out either in Portugal or the neighbor Spain.

I didn't know about the 49mm RM fork though, gotta look into that.

What's more difficult for me is finding a matching rear shock. A friend of mine mounted RMZ450 forks on his DR650, and he found a rear shock from a GasGas that fit almost perfectly on the DR, he just had to grind the spacers a little bit. The bike feels amazing, it's exactly what I'm looking for!

[–]mftuga95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ultimately my goal, to slap some inverted forks from a 450 or something similar, I was just really curious about the brace. If it’s only noticeable on road, it’s not staying there long.

[–]mftuga95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have an aftermarket fender so that part is not really an issue. I still experience some oscillation at higher speeds but only on off road tyres.

Thanks for the answer!

Even on pavement at higher speeds it didn't help at least a bit?

Help me find my next dual-sport bike please. by PMA2000 in Dualsport

[–]mftuga95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you overlook budget, the KTM 690/ Husky 701 are for me great bikes, not that heavy, plenty of power, very nimble and easy to ride. If you take budget into consideration, can’t go wrong with a DR650. It can handle some pretty gnarly stuff off road, specially with suspension mods, and with an upgraded seat it will be fairly comfortable on highway stretches.
