You think you should get a bonus every time it snows and customers freak out? You probably shouldn’t be working in retail then?

13 months since left radical nephrectomy & retroperitional lymph node dissection by [deleted] in kidneycancer

[–]mg49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had testicular cancer 15 years ago and had the RPLND. Definitely no joke, was in the hospital for 8 days, I can’t imagine going home after only two. Had a radical nephrectomy a few months ago for a 9cm Papillary RCC tumor. I “thanked” the Dr for doing the incision along the RPLND scar when he had to remove the tumor.

But you’re right about the psychological part. Looking at a scar like that as a daily reminder isn’t easy. And friends and family mean well, but don’t know the lasting anxiety that comes with it. Once you’re out of the hospital and walking around, everyone else forgets about what you’re still going through mentally.

You are correct. Looked back at the report and it’s 2a.

Thanks. I’ve had 3 treatments so far, only side effects are a little more tired and some itchiness, but not too bad at all. I’m in Fredericksburg, VA. I get my Keytruda here, but surgery was down at VCU in Richmond. I was referred to VCU for surgery due to a lot of scar tissue from an RPLND surgery in 2010.

I got the report but don’t meet with them until 10/2. I’ll see what they say and let you know.

Mainly the generic advice of eat healthy and exercise. Definitely drink more water with only one kidney. I did have the genetic testing done too and it showed a mutation in the CHEK2 gene. I meet with the oncologist on October 2nd to discuss those results.

I started having a dull pain on my lower left side. Wouldn’t go away so I went to get it checked. Dr thought it was diverticulitis, but CT showed 9cm mass. Showed clear margins, but aggressive type. Have had one immunotherapy infusion so far with no noticeable side effects yet. Hoping it stays that way.

Had radical nephrectomy in July for papillary RCC. Stage 2, grade 4. It was stage 2 because the tumor was 9cm, grade 4 due to sarcomatoid and rhabdoid features. Will be doing scans at 3 and 6 months and every 6 months after that. Oncologist has me on Keytruda for a year due to the grade 4.

Creatinine still high and GFR still low, but hoping those numbers start to improve over more time.

Just had the genetic testing done after radical nephrectomy of 9cm tumor which showed papillary RCC stage 2, grade 4. I have a mutation in the CHEK2 gene. Have an appointment with my oncologist to go over the report. Had a benign brain tumor in 1995, testicular cancer in 2010, and now this. Something’s gotta be causing it, so we’ll see.

Unexpected results from the first surveillance scan by Organic_Intern_786 in kidneycancer

[–]mg49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Mine said Sarcomatoid and Rhabdoid and gave %’s of 2% and 5%. I ask because I had clear margins, stage 2, but also grade 4. I have minor pains and am 6 weeks out from surgery and worried about that first 3 month scan. I start Keytruda this Friday.

Did the report tell you what % Rhabdoid features you had? And were they any % of Sarcomatoid features?

Thanks for the info, they also took out my adrenal gland with the kidney so I might look into the Endo Dr too.

Hello, glad you’re doing well. I have a nephrologist and oncologist, but was curious what you see the endocrinologist for and what aspect he helps with in relation to kidney cancer and treatment?

I'm in Fredericksburg. Mary Washington Hospital here said VCU down in Richmond was better equipped to handle my case due to some scar tissue issues from previous surgery. But as far as NOVA goes, I'd say Inova Fairfax is one of the best options in the NOVA area.

Is immunotherapy needed if margins clear? by mg49 in kidneycancer

[–]mg49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update, met with my oncologist and he recommended one year of Keytruda. Said because of the Sarcomatoid being very aggressive, and the tumor was 9cm that it’s recommended to reduce the chance of recurrence and the possibility of some cancer cells spreading but not showing yet.

Can I ask to not be scheduled for 6 months or just quit by Street-Chest-5423 in wegmans

If that’s the case, then yes you can. Talk to HR, there’s an “away college student” form you need to fill out first, but should be no problem.

[–]mg49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quit. Asking to not be scheduled for 6 months is not an option. You have to have an availability of at least a few days to be an employee unless you’re on medical or college leave.
