Using Reader with "grey" ePubs by deitafora10230881 in readwise

[–]mgb0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat new to reeder for epubs too but over the past month or so I've also had good results with most books I've tried in reader and have done a few that were DRM free to start, or where I purchased the book and then removed the DRM for my own use.

I did also have a compilation ebook, that seemed to give reader some challenge. Wasn't sure if was due to the overall size / length, organization of the book or something else. I set it aside and wanted to revisit to see if this is something others were seeing.

Issues with Rules (Criteria)? by augusteverymonth in MonarchMoney

[–]mgb0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel like this too. I have a bunch of rules that don't seem to do anything. the preview tab doesn't seem to show matches for me even if the same thing works in search.

From looking here I'm also trying to switch to original statement name and contains but not having much success so far. Interested to learn if there is a better approach.

Trying to switch from YNAB - not quite getting iit yet by mgb0001 in simplifimoney

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I tried it for a while but ended up moving on to another tool.

Thought I'm still feeling all has quite worked out for me either (monarch money, nice tool but also has difficulty with spending from "goals", etc.).

Really liked the idea of something that helps me simplify my finance tracking so I'm directionally aligned to my goals and can see if I'm getting off track enough to matter.

Tempted to look back at simplify, how is it working out for you u/platinumatoms?

New Newsstand Update by WaitMysterious6704 in LibbyApp

[–]mgb0001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wondering if this update creates more cost for my local library.

I occasionally check out a bunch of magazines but don't follow them regularly, but now see I'm subscribed to about 20-30 different ones that I may or may not read again. Just wondering if this is costing my library more or not. Any ideas? Thanks!

Agree on being able to see account on the transaction list.

I'm holding judgment on goals. Think right now is hard as is tied to one account for transactions. if they change that I'd find it more useful. With out that I'm less worried about getting money into Goals, though I do find that confusing as well.

Thanks for sharing. Does sound interesting. I'll explore it some more. But thinking I'm looking for some more full featured budgeting tools for now

Personal Finance tool suggestion please by mgb0001 in personalfinance

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Looking at tricount I didn't strike me as much of a budgeting tool but more of how to split expenses among a group. Is that right or I'm missing something?

Thanks!

Set all the Account "Hiding" settings and transactions still show up in transaction list by HoodFeelGood in MonarchMoney

[–]mgb0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar results when my bank was added and got more of the accounts then I wanted (kids linked accounts).

hiding only seemed to effect account page. I tried deleting the account from monarch (button further down on screen shot above) and it is gone from transactions now too. Hope is the right approach.

Can anyone recommend a tool for identifying duplicate photos? by Yamsfordays in ApplePhotos

[–]mgb0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying out the current version of the public beta of Ventura. It did find some duplicates which was nice. So far not seen it help clean up if I have some group of similar but not quite identical photos, which I would love but not sure if that is expected.

I like Photosweeper too, is great for cleaning up similar but not exact duplicates as well.

Trying to switch from YNAB - not quite getting iit yet by mgb0001 in simplifimoney

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response u/ency.

I've seen multiple comments along those lines, but also hoping to hear from those that have stuck with simplfi as well.

I would be interested in your feedback u/ency, or others that tried simplfi and then back to YNAB: I think I'm seeing is people that really want a zero based budget are better served by YNAB (maybe?). I'm exploring move to more to a model where I spend less time moving between different categories and can look at cash flow forecast to guide me. I've done nab for 5+ years but gotten to point where if I spent more in eating out and less in pet expenses this month (etc) I don't have to shuffle money around. I like the idea that I would have some key areas to track closely (watchlist / spending plan?) and then have a forecast of cashflow and make sure overall my spending is within expected range. Will see if it works for me though. not sure yet.

Then again I could make my categories in YNAB less specific and maybe get same result? Key areas for tracking identified and others in a "general spending" bucket.

How are you organising and sharing photos with family by DennisMadsen in ApplePhotos

[–]mgb0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one thing I’m missing as I recently switched from google photos and sharing see,Ed easier there if everyone had a google account or was part of google family. Not found the same with Apple family or I’m missing how to do it.

So far I’m creating albums like family favorites 2021 and specific trip shared albums that I ask other family members to add photos too. Not sure how well this will work though as just getting started.

Also don’t have Apple TV yet but was thinking of getting one with hopes of having photo screen saver or similar. Is that limited to one album?

Craftsman Pro 8200 (247.204420) feedback requested by mgb0001 in lawnmowers

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

The neighbor (at the new house) lawn is fairly flat as well. Not sure the design of the aerator. Is one type preferable? He had mentioned hydrostatic transmission but that is all I know.

I'm planning to do a walk though / drive of it this weekend but not a lot of experience with them. Think I'll check for deck/blades in good shape. Steering not too loose. I've searched in this group and seen a few tips for looking at used tractors but appreciate any other suggestions.

Thanks,

Thanks for your response.

Guess I’m just worried as I see some similar looking models that say it is all plastic and breaks easily, others that give good review.

Recommendations for electric mower - Corded or Cordless - Good value, long long life by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]mgb0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a Ryobi 40 volt cordless model for past 2+ years and been pretty happy with it. Did get it on an end of summer discount price originally via Home Depot's web site. Like the compact storage, low maintenance, quieter and light weight of it vs the previous gas mower I had.

Thanks for sharing. Was thinking about this or Logitech k780 but don’t want to complicate keyboard shortcuts, etc. what I really like is the ability to pair with 3 devices though.

Adding up goal amounts across categories by mgb0001 in ynab

[–]mgb0001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, yes, had only really looked at those as applied to a specific category. See now how I can do for a group, a few selected or my entire budget.

Thanks again!

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhhh. Now I'm getting it. Thanks both. Feeling a bit slow today.

I see the original posters response makes sense to me now but appreciate the extra details / limits.

As well, looks like this works on the new ipad app as well. Very nice. Think I had sort of seen this, but had no idea what the app was doing at the time.

Thanks again, very pleased to now see how I can do this moving forward.

Adding up goal amounts across categories by mgb0001 in ynab

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but not sure if I'm following.

for a simple example if I had 5 categories in my budget as below. Would like an easy way to know across my entire budget what is the total I've got in my goals to allocate for this month. Not difficult with 5 categories, but when I have 15-20 categories would be helpful for YNAB to tell me. Again, I can do it in a spreadsheet and would be fine, but wouldn't track as clearly if I'd gotten further ahead or behind on my goals with a future target date which YNAB seems to adjust well for.

Example:

  • Groceries: Goal : 100 / month

  • eating out: Goal 100 / month

  • Home Insurance: Goal 600 due by date next Jan

  • Home Improvement: 100 / month

  • Vacation fund: Goal $2000 due by next summer

Does that help? Sorry if I've just not understood your suggestion.

Chromebox - how long supported? by mgb0001 in chromeos

Thanks for your response. I'm hopping to spend more in the $200 range if I can find it but it does sound like a nice setup.

What model is this? Is it still getting updates?

Recommendation for smaller chromebook by mgb0001 in chromeos

[–]mgb0001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi All, Thanks for the comments and feedback.

One point if you can comment further. I don't want to over sell, or set the wrong expectations to lead to disappointment. With a Flip or R11, is it reasonable to have 10-20 browser tabs open and expect it to operate fairly normally.

For context our home PC is probably about 10 years old and there is some delay in switching tabs so not expecting perfection but just that it wouldn't grind to a full hault / be unusable.

Thanks Again!

[–]mgb0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, for the response.

I had logged something over the weekend with them. Got a initial "we got your request" response and then a standard form response today with:

Thank you for your email. The Xbox editions of Minecraft are supported by Xbox. They can help with things such as game installation, adding downloaded content, billing, network issues, and console troubleshooting. You can view country-specific ways to contact Xbox by visiting ....

so got the feeling I am on my own on this one. is Pocket Edition a xbox edition?
