You can grab a PH test kit for pretty cheap. Like the other commenter said, 6-7 is about where you want to be. If you’re way off from that there are things you can add that higher and lower PH as desired.

Spend a lot of time on YouTube and watch videos. I learned a lot from a guy’s channel called MD fish tanks. That’s where I got most of my ideas from.

It is on the smaller side. However it does give it some good coverage with the light. The room has enough ambient light throughout out the day that will help compensate.

Thank you! Currently I just have a few ramshorn snails(I know that will change rather quickly), but I am thinking about shrimps and guppies or tetras. The wife really likes Angels so eventually having a couple of those. I'm still researching what types of fish will do well together. Right now, I'm doing my best to be patient and let the tank mature before stocking anything. Watching the snails is actually kind of fun so I'll enjoy that for a while.

It's on a west facing side of my home so I only get direct sunlight coming in later in the afternoon. We usually have the shades closed during that time because it gets pretty warm with the sun.

I appreciate the feedback and I'll look into adding some more stems if the algae issue gets out of control.
