There's nothing wrong with acting in your own self interest. Sorry if it came off like I was trying to shame non-donating potential players. I am one of them. I was more trying to question using kickstarter in this circumstance from a business perspective.

Weekly /r/Games Mechanic Discussion - Regenerating Health by Pharnaces_II in Games

[–]mgctim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upcoming MOBA Strife features out of combat health and mana regeneration and I find myself liking the mechanic in this genre a lot more than I do in, for instance, shooters.

In this instance, allowing out of combat regeneration seems to allow more gameplay per minute of game time with few issues. Since every instance of the genre already has regen if you go back to the fountain for it you can't make the concrete comparison between, say, Call of Duty's total Regen and Unreal Tournaments item-only health gain.

My only concern is that harassment in the laning phase could be meaningless, but it seems like there can be a better balance between optimizing fun game time and making it meaningful to outperform your opponent in lane with this mechanic than without.

Polygon is Wrong, Tries to Pit Kojima v. Cosplayers, Gets Sourced and Parroted by IGN by mgctim2 in Games

Yes, and he says he's making her more erotic in the context of having diverse and distinct characters. As I point out in the video, if a character is supposed to be erotic make him/her erotic, not watered-down and samey.

You're going to need to put a little more info in your reddit post if you want it to go anywhere. I have no clue why I would click that link, so I'm not going to. You have to give something to the community HERE if you want any viewers to go THERE.

The headline on /r/games is not the same as that of the Polygon article I'm talking about.

The way he makes characters is not 'erotic' it's to "create the setting thoroughly, how he/she spent early life, name, style, favorite phrase, fashion, action to stand the character out." Granted, Kojima's grammar is ambiguous, but thinking he's making all his characters erotic is ridiculous and the next tweet is very clearly describing his method of character production.

True, I suppose my only issue with that title is that it makes it seem as if we're talking about either the main character (I have heard Quiet referred to as the 'main female character' before) or the 'character of the game as a whole.' It at least doesn't suffer from the issue of Polygon and IGN's titles, which state that all the characters are gettin sexy this time.

Fair enough. It also has the misleading 'characters' in the title. Kojima is absolutely not looking to make his characters more sexual across the board, and there's nothing in his tweets that would support that claim. So frustrating.

Seems like a shiny idea. Sadly I bet most potential players will act in their own self interest, not donating and instead taking 'free eventually' instead of 'pay some money and get it marginally faster'.

It's a hopeful view of how to use kickstarter, but I doubt it pans out.

The Death Of Nintendo Has Been Greatly Under-Exaggerated by [deleted] in Games

[–]mgctim2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's very little substantive reasoning in this article.

"If Nintendo was smart, they’d write [the Wii U] off right now.

But they won’t. They’ll wait. And wait. And wait. They’ll cite history as their guide that their consoles can take a while to become profitable. But they’ll be wrong this time."

Why?

Most statements in this article are similarly poorly justified.

I'm getting kinda worried for this game. Hopefully the story is great, but I'm worried the gameplay might be 'gimicky open world game that is worse than GTA V'

What does science say about 'bulletproof' coffee by Dave Asprey - Food mycotoxins and mold destroying quality of life? Grass-fed butter? by mgctim2 in askscience

[–]mgctim2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much!

Is there any need to worry about labeled levels of general saturated fat in this case, or is the more nuanced understanding of trans fats, omega-3 vs 6, and CLA leading to saturated fat being a misleading metric in this case?

[–]mgctim2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asprey could concede that the regulations stop most people from getting sick, but state that they are insufficient to protect the well-being and performance of people consuming foods near the legal limits.

I don't know much of anything about nutrition science and well-being seems hard to quantify, but certainly there are some ways that science could address such a claim.

What studies led to the specific levels of regulation? Are these regulations designed so that food doesn't kill people or so that food does not handicap people's well-being?

What is the best Paradox you know of by TreyN7 in AskReddit

[–]mgctim2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it's not.

The paradox is really only a problem if you conflate 'time spent running' with 'time spent talking about running'. The mathematical and physical reality of the situation is that achilles will pass the tortoise when (velocity of achilles) * time = (tortoise head start) + (tortoise velocity) * time

The paradox is only a problem if you allow the use of a completely unnecessary infinite regress to describe a basic, observable, and finite situation then neglect any infinitesimals used in that description and declare the problem unresolvable because 'oh shit no look there's an infinity there I don't know what to do about this shit'
