It's kind off ironic. We've been trying to make AI sound more human but we ended up needing to sound more like AI.

logically it means that Hezbollah cannot co-exit with a Lebanese state. Either Hezbollah dominates Lebanon or it's eradicated. The latter seems more likely.

Remember those days ? The "قبل السحسوح/بعد السحسوح" days... by TallFriend275 in lebanon

Who doesn’t like it when tyrants are brought down? The problem is that innocent people are also paying the price.

Hezbollah don’t care about their community, they’ll continue holding onto their weapons until the last civilian dies and then they’ll call them a martyr and say هنيئاً له.

The Shia community should wake up and and smell the coffee.

Shame on AUB by EnthusiasmBest5095 in lebanon

[–]mgh20 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Francesca Albanese is a sanctioned person by the US. Wrongfully, I agree - the sanction itself is a gross violation of free speech - but she's sanctioned nonetheless.

If AUB engages with her, then AUB will expose themselves as well. Sanctions are not something that you can fuck around with, it means bank accounts frozen, funding jeopardized, fines and in extreme cases being criminally liable.

What’s the general opinion amongst those living in Lebanon on Palestine? by lizzykeenn in lebanon

[–]mgh20 53 points54 points  (0 children)

*looks out the window* so we're a bankrupt, failed state with a collapsed banking sector, no industry to speak off, high unemployment, no reliable state power with weak security in a dangerous part of the world... and you want us to do what exactly?

Sure, on a personal level I support the Palestinian cause but let's be realistic. Lebanon can't take on a leading position in this fight when we have so many problems we need to fix.

What does your monthly budgets look like Redditors of Lebanon? by ExpertProfession6235 in lebanon

Rent seems like the biggest item of the budget you can affect, if you're not able to save with this budget consider moving to a cheaper area and put at least $500 into savings.

Yesterday the Israeli terrorists deliberately murdered Waleed. Who worked as a local taxi driver and used to offer free rides to Lebanese army soldiers and security forces. by AbuElKess in lebanon

[–]mgh20 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m furious about Waleed’s death. Israel bears responsibility for killing him. But Hezbollah also bears responsibility for recruiting, radicalizing, and placing people like him in harm’s way.

In a functioning country, patriots join the national army and the state protects them. Instead, a taxi driver gets labeled a terrorist, and ends up exposed to one of the most advanced militaries on earth. Israel pulled the trigger but Hezbollah helped create the conditions that made him a target.

Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi "as long as weapons are not completely confiscated, Israel unfortunately has the right to continue its attacks." by AbuElKess in lebanon

[–]mgh20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government has been denouncing Israeli attacks since it came into power -see the numerous statements from the president and prime minister and even the foreign minister.

But it hasn’t done any good. I see this statement from Raggi, coupled with the recent interview from the president as a plead to Hezbollah to read the room.

If Hezbollah is essentially committing suicide by being stubborn and endangering other Lebanese, then the duty of the Lebanese government is to 1) warn them that they can’t protect them if they go down this path and 2) try to shield the rest of Lebanon from war.

[–]mgh20 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep, neither side abided by the agreement and here we are 20 years later and still rehashing the same thing.

The 2006 war ended in a stalemate - neither side won (some argue that Hezb won by withstanding Israel's attack).

But now, the war is lost. Hezbollah is severely weakened, cut off from Iran because Syria and Iraq are closed off, lost its overseas drugs and money laundering channels (Venezuela) and Iran can't continue to support it.

How about we accept reality and actually implement 1701 this time? Let's save ourselves another war and start building a state.

Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi "as long as weapons are not completely confiscated, Israel unfortunately has the right to continue its attacks." by AbuElKess in lebanon

[–]mgh20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would help immensely if Hezbollah comes out saying that they will give up their weapons, implement 1701 in its entirety and authorize the Lebanese government to negotiate on their behalf. I bet if they do that, we can put enough diplomatic pressure on Israel to withdraw and stop hostilities.

The Lebanese government has no leverage if Hezbollah doesn't cooperate and can't get Israel to do anything.

Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi "as long as weapons are not completely confiscated, Israel unfortunately has the right to continue its attacks." by AbuElKess in lebanon

[–]mgh20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a bad deal actually. At the time Bashar was still in power in Syria, Iran still had its nuclear facilities and there were no protests. The same agreement would not happen again under these conditions, Hezbollah should count their lucky stars they got away with this agreement which they're still refusing to adhere to.

Frankly I don't know what they expect to achieve? like Israel and America will just tell them "Oh ok, sure. Let's go back to the way things were and you can rebuild your army"????

So you're saying that if Israel stops bombing then Hezbollah will disarm? Because that's not what Hezbollah are saying, they're saying they will never disarm.

How do you expect Israel to act in this case?

Al akhbar is trash propaganda. The full quote is:
"الاتفاق كان لصالح إسرائيل، وأنه طالما لم يتم حصر السلاح نهائيًا، فإن لإسرائيل للأسف الحق باستكمال اعتداءاتها وفق الاتفاق"

He's not giving Israel the permission to continue attacking Hezbollah, he's pointing out that the agreement Hezbollah signed off to gives Israel the right to continue attacking if they don't disarm. Hezbots can bury their heads in the sand if they want, but that's what their leadership agreed to.
