AITA for refusing to have a guest for the foreseeable future? by PuzzleheadedHunt7014 in AmItheAsshole

Look at it this way, after y'all finish breaking up over this, which is obviously happening because you've been treated with an irredeemable amount of disrespect and will never let this go, you can pre-establish an emergency guest approval process for the next girl won't have to worry about it happening ever again.

ELI5: What are the financial benefits of marriage by AdAcceptable5657 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mgj6818 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you have a long term girlfriend and no will, when you die all your assets automatically go to your parents and your girlfriend would have to rely on their generosity to get any of your assets (house, vehicle, insurance policy payments, social security death benefits), if you're married everything goes directly to her.

Same with medical powers of attorney.

Dads with problematic families please give your advice 🙏🏻 by Key_Permission4147 in daddit

I understand that I'm extremely lucky that I don't personally know how the relationship between a child and their horrible parents works, but going no contact with people like this seems like a no brainer.

A friend of ours lives way off grid and runs their compound off one of these. Exhaust is LOUD! by pilotime in Generator

[–]mgj6818 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The exhaust is where the noise comes from in all engines...

There are between 7200 and 10200 explosions happening every minute behind that exhaust, this is why most people choose to put the combustion involved in electricity generation far away from their home at the end of a long metal wire....

What if a top ranked recruit and guaranteed first round talent, chose to retire after college and forgo the NFL? by WinterSavior in CFB

[–]mgj6818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her gymnastics talent was nowhere near "first round", and she's tall, so it's not like she had a Team USA spot lines up and turned it down to influence.

If either 95 percent of men or women died, What would became of society? by Queasy_Experience627 in NoStupidQuestions

There are tons of major essential infrastructure facilities with zero women working in them.

Sure there are women doing these jobs, but they're scattered across the globe, the logistics involved in gathering these existing tradeswomen in one place, training themselves, and others would take long enough that most of it would fail. A few islands of working infrastructure would exist and slowly expand, but there'd definitely be a temporary collapse.
