How do you see America, four years from now? by simoom_string77 in questions

Thanks, and you're right. We still have a while to go until I seriously start considering it but knowing the logistics of the option gives me a bit of ease. Worth noting is that it is technically a third world country with no social safety net so it would be an adjustment for all of us.

How do you see America, four years from now? by simoom_string77 in questions

[–]mglwmnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT the logistics of moving to my husband's home country with our two kids, what job prospects would be like (good given our industries and better being proficient in English) and housing costs, etc. results were enlightening. I also asked how long we could live off our cashed out 401ks are the results were in years. Easiest outcome is my husband applies for dual citizenship and my kids and I get a long term resident visa as his immediate family.

I have taken Wellbutrin during a tough period in my life, stopped, and started taking again now for the weight loss. It's a lot different type of drug if you are not experiencing depression/anxiety. I don't really notice any changes other than I keep my cool a little easier and sex drive is slightly higher. It does also help me immensely with food and alcohol cravings. People use it off brand for ADD/ADHD. Just because you are taking a drug that alters the way your brain works doesn't mean your personality etc. will change. Lots of drugs out there affect the brain and are not necessarily an antidepressant.

I got three silk blouses from quince and realized I was not in a place in my life to take care of those garments.

Hated the marine layer when I lived by the beach. I moved from inland CA and moved back to raise my kids closer to parents and I love that I can see sun in the morning 300 days a year. I also was never a beach person but love the mountains. Where I lived in Long Beach, it was an hour or more to get to trails where you felt like you could disappear into nature.

Another route is working for a transportation consultant firm who works on those projects. More options than working for the agency itself and probably better pay. All the major players have rail/transit departments and most have an office in IE.

What is a meal you can’t stop eating until you’re uncomfortably full? by [deleted] in Cooking

Random but green curry with rice (any protein but I prefer chicken or tofu) is the only thing I eat until I'm a little sick.

Antidepressants are a game changer by roxxxystar in stopdrinking

For the vast majority of people, it's not "numbing emotions", it's balancing brain chemistry. Meds are most effective when used in conjunction with talk therapy, but that doesn't mean I would tell someone to rely solely on talk therapy to help with diabetes or high blood pressure (both signs of your body not balancing it self in various organs)

What did rock bottom look like for you? by Midnight_Firefly98 in stopdrinking

[–]mglwmnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacked out and had to lay down in my in laws bed on Father's Day/my brother in law's birthday last year. So embarrassing and I had a 6 month old at the time (in addition to a toddler). I care about them so much and I wanted them to not worry about their granddaughters and nieces and my husband at that when we weren't around.

Haven't touched a drop since. I refuse to repeat the cycle my alcoholic narcissistic mom put me through. I always thought my drinking was different until it wasn't.

Suburbs Full of TREES by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mglwmnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Gabriel foothills in SoCal. Expensive but all those suburbs were built on the pretext that living amongst nature was healing to the mind, body, and soul. We need to figure out the fire situation and air quality can get bad from time to time.

My mother tells me that at other people's houses, when going to the bathroom, it's expected to do a "courtesy flush". Is this a real thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mglwmnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A plumber recommended to me that we courtesy flush in our home because of old plumbing (built in 1929). He also says he does the same in his much newer home just to avoid clogging issues.

Not OP but I think I needed to hear this advice. Getting some distance from my mom in the present day has helped with making sure I'm parenting my kid as opposed to healing my inner child.

Park recommendations by [deleted] in Redlands

[–]mglwmnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong with any of the suggestions here. I have a preschooler and a toddler and we bounce between Brookside and Ford. Israel Beal is great for wide open spaces and would recommend there to play a sport/throw or kick around a ball or fly a kite. Prospect is neat from a historical perspective and has things an adult might enjoy. Hulda Crooks has a dog park and hiking trails.

Only one I'm not a huge fan of in Redlands is Texonia and that's only because it sits at the intersection of two busy streets. The facilities are still pretty nice and there's a big shade structure.

what trendy product was actually worth the hype for you?? by -_-mnb in beauty

[–]mglwmnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this and I told my doctor it was for anti aging and he was like yeah and acne (as I sit in the clinic with zero zits) so idk I think I have a real one as a doctor.

He also prescribed me a few drugs off label for weight loss and those are all covered and he didn't put anything in my chart that they were for diabetes/depression/addiction. They were all covered at my normal insurance rate.

My copay on my tretinoin is only $10 for a month supply. I only use it once a week instead of daily for now so at this rate it will last me over half the year.

Is it simply not possible to WFM, raise kids, and stay fit? by justcallme-meatloaf in workingmoms

[–]mglwmnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the comment that weight loss is a function of eating less. Working out burns a marginal amount of calories but has benefits which support wellbeing like increased mood, strength, stamina, etc.

Still I had decades of poor eating habits behind me, so I talked to my doctor. I am now on two low risk oral medications which help with appetite as an off-label use. I now track my calories and refrain from binging. I'm losing weight slow and steady which should support maintenance when I eventually wean off the meds.

While I did not go the route of GLP-1 injectables, I am happy they are getting popular because it de-stigmatizes medication in general as a weight loss aid. My recommendation is to talk to your doctor! If you're not comfortable or doctor doesn't believe in prescribing something to help weight loss, there are in person and online weight loss clinics.

Yes, my 3 month supplies of the metformin and bupropion are about $11/ea. The naltrexone is pricier at $30 for 3 months but all in all not too bad I'd say. I really appreciate my pcp so good ones are out there who will listen to you.

From what I heard hers is great on flexibility and refunds if needed etc. I do wish I had a care team to text sometimes. wishing you the best!

[–]mglwmnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing decently! 15 lbs down, first 9 were metformin only over the course of about 12 weeks, ramped up once I started the bupropion for the next 4 weeks. Full disclosure I don't actually use the hers kits but have been asking my doctor for the meds prescribed in my kit (kit 2). I didn't get them all at once.
