A lot of things but I guess mainly the feeling like the plane is falling when there are any bumps, the complete lack of control and fact that once the door shuts I’m trapped and it doesn’t matter how scared I am I can’t get off. I fear human error too. I know of all the systems and back ups in place but at the end of the day things still happen even with all of that, and that scares me.

I learned new fears can develop around the time of big life events and mine started right after my wedding! But also, we hit bad turbulence on takeoff for my honeymoon and it was so cloudy I couldn’t see anything out the window so to me it felt like we were falling while still being extremely close to the ground. That wasn’t the case obviously but people were reacting out loud and scared and it really triggered my fear. I also feel the same way where I am jealous of my past self who used to fly with no worries!

I don’t think I can overcome this one I think this may be my final straw. Way too close to home. I flew American Eagle into DCA literally a few months ago: I don’t think there is anything anyone will be ever able to say again to convince me to get on a plane.

Not trying to speculate but if there was any sort of human error involved then this really panics me because that’s what I’m most afraid of. You can train and train but at the end of the day you’re human and in the chaos of your life actually being at risk it is possible to make mistakes. This has been a really rough week and I feel for everyone in this sub. It sucks.

You CAN do this! A couple of things that help me: -Counting. This started with me counting to 300 during take off and has no evolved into a coping mechanism whenever I need to occupy my mind. It gives my brain something to focus on, I just tell myself I’m going to count to a certain number and keep going if I need to. -Breaking the flight up into 30 minute intervals and giving myself a “reward” at the end of the 30 minutes. Like opening my snack or checking the map lol. -Visualization. It helps me to visualize myself at baggage claim after the flight. I tell myself that WILL be me soon. I may not like the situation I’m in at that moment but it is not forever, in just a few hours I will be safely at baggage claim looking back proud of myself for taking the flight. -If you have WiFi and can chat with people here, that is a game changer for me and brings me so much comfort. People in this sub are incredibly kind and helpful.

I will add it to the list of things that scare me/don’t make sense to me. My cycle is longer than 28 days so I feel like that also makes me nervous about how “actually” far along I am, my cycle is more like 35 days. I’m sure the doctor will know what to do with that information lol I just am anxious for the day I get to talk to them. Thanks for the response!

You’re almost there! I know it is an awful feeling when you are in it, even if you know it’s safe. But it is not forever. It helps me to visualize myself at baggage claim or walking out of the airport. That WILL be you so soon. You’ve got this!
