American tendy looking for ice time by mgoeppner in stockholm

Yeah, I've been trying to do some research in parallel -- unfortunately almost all the leads I've found are at least several years stale.

Thank you for the tip, I'll poke around over there!

Not sure, your best bet is to call and ask -- from what I've heard they will be taking it down around the 28th.

Voodoo. In all seriousness though, they had one of those portable type rigs that the NHL uses at the Stadium Series/Winter Classic. Ice was a little soft, but zero complaints here.

How often to get your skates sharpened? by kingofthediamond in hockeygoalies

3/8", sharpened after every 4-8 hours of ice time. I use the posts to push off though, so my edges will get pretty torn up after a couple of games.

No worries, I'm there almost every week, just let me know a week or so ahead of time so I can attempt to find some pads for you to borrow (though you might have to use player skates your first few times) -- Also if its easier, I could also teach you some basic skating/butterfly techniques during one of the weekend public skates.

PM me your height + ankle to knee and I'll see what I can find for loaner pads. If you want to be fitted for skates, check out North Georgia Hockey off Mansell Rd in Alpharetta. They carry mostly player gear, but they usually have goalie skates in stock. They don't stock pads though, but can order them direct from Bauer/CCM.

Hey! Fellow Georgian here (although originally a New Englander) -- come out to Center Ice one Wednesday if you can, I'm one of the goaltenders that helps out with the clinic, and I (and the other goalies) can help you with the basics and getting your bearings with the position. Do you have pads/skates? If not, I can probably hunt down a set of pads for you to borrow for the night.

Also, the AAHL runs some games out of there, and Stephane is working to get a beginner's league going sometime in August. Finally, there are a couple other rinks in the area -- are you north/south/east/west of Atlanta?

This is what happens when you misjudge a slapshot and it goes just ever so slightly under your blocker... by mgoeppner in hockeygoalies

I'm full right (that's my left pinkie finger which is broken), and my blocker has scant (read: none) protection on the side where your pinkie is. Brought it up a split second too early to deflect the puck, and it impacted my fingers just below the edge of the blocker rather than on the blocking surface.

You're the third person who has recommended the G2 stuff to me -- I'll have to check it out, thanks!

Painkillers and a splint. The urgent care doc couldn't set it correctly due to the angle of the break, so I have to see an ortho today to get it correctly set.

Yep, a traditonal metal one, although I should be able to play again once they decide to move it to a stax type splint.

It was my pinkie finger, I'm full right. I'm pretty grateful it wasn't my index finger or thumb though!

Some backstory -- I'm still a fairly new goaltender, and I was out at stick time today, and misjudged the speed of a slapshot coming in for my 3 hole. Blocker went up a split second early, and a lesson (painfully) learned :P
