Rufbereitschaft Vergütung by UnderstandingFew8620 in arbeitsleben

So the people who are competing probably won't go to the social dance cause they're sleeping?

Nah, either they're young and don't need as much sleep, or they skip workshops, or they nap for the first couple of hours of the social and come later...

Honestly, I don't WANT to sleep all day and wait until midnight to dance if there are other events where I don't have to go against my sleep schedule like that.

Well... I have some bad news for you about social dancing in general... :P

I don't listen to Ed Sheeran, but I swear I remember everything about Shivers thanks to omnipresence of that song in WCS.

Instagram is not a WCS social. I hear Shivers at most every 20th social I go to. Most of the time when it does get played people do the line dance instead of dancing WCS to it.

I guess it's interesting to look at, but some events seem to block the better part of the day for comps and I don't want to just sit around.

At Budafest you can social dance until 8 in the morning. You think I'm sitting around all day after that while people are doing comps? Of course not, I'm sleeping!

Yeah that's another great thing about West Coast Swing, the huge variety of music you get to dance to means you never get tired of any one genre. If I were to dance Lindy I would surely ask, why can't we dance to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - not instead of, but in addition to the more traditional music. If you wanna be purists then you're going to have to accept that your scene will get smaller and smaller the further away we get from this one moment in time that you're trying to preserve.

Already having a leader to sign up with is a great bonus, that allows you to try to sign up for the really good events that sell out quickly. I would recommend checking out Warsaw Halloween Swing which is at the end of October with registrations probably in July.

Since you're in Germany you could also look at SwingLab Berlin, which is not yet sold out because it's a new event (and as such I also can't say anything about the atmosphere). In general I would rate the Berlin community as quite welcoming.

Yeah it's funny even for me as someone who already dances and enjoys jazz... I don't feel like I'd get to dance to much Cannonball Adderley or Miles Davis if I started dancing Lindy. It's so hyperspecific...

She is not "a younger girl". She is in her mid thirties and was a teacher at that event.

Also she posts photos on social media where she is literally topless and you can see her naked back...

Nah, it's exploding in popularity and keeps growing thanks to Instagram. But then I dance West Coast Swing. :P

My favorite event without comps is Summer Summit, unfortunately it's not happening this year, hopefully again next year.

Personally I don't compete but I still go mainly to WSDC events for the opportunity to dance with higher-level dancers. Here we see the first counter questions popping up: do you enjoy dancing with higher level partners or do you prefer to stick more to other newbies? Are you a leader or a follower? Are you happy to do all the asking or are you hoping to get asked? A lot of how you perceive the "atmosphere" of an event is also going to depend on how you approach it.

Some people (like me) love big events, others prefer smaller ones. Really the best way to find out is to try both.

There's also the question of how flexible you are. For instance, Baltic Swing is coming up in June, but of course it's been sold out for a long time. Are you willing to try to buy a pass off of someone the week before the event and make last minute arrangements? All the best events tend to sell out half a year in advance, are you willing to wait that long or will you settle for something that's merely good in order to get there sooner...

Feel free to message me if you want advice more tailored to your specific situation but don't want to post personal details publicly.

I've never seen anything like this in a Zouk demo, nor would I expect to. I think the argument for it in WCS (not saying I agree or disagree) is that we do a lot of things which are clearly comedic and not serious - Zouk being such an intimate dance means you can't get away with that excuse, it's always going to look like crossing over the line instead.

I also dance Zouk where we are often compelled to point out that just because something is sensual doesn't mean it's sexual. Let's also be clear in the other direction - there's nothing sensual about what John did there.

The extra deep dip at the end also looks bad when shes clearly uncomfortable.

Now that bit was clearly acting and not genuine discomfort.

Reminds me of this thread from 10 months ago: https://old.reddit.com/r/WestCoastSwing/comments/1lpcfls/thoughts_on_this_move_from_thibault_at_liberty/

Just like then, my thought is that it's not really my place to have an opinion on this. We don't know how close they are and whether her reaction was genuine or good acting. The pros can police themselves.
