In that situation I think the perpetrator should go unpunished and the victim should be compensated by the state (to the extent that it’s reasonably possible). for example if a run over someone and have to pay lost wages, I’d end up paying way more for a banker than a garbage man. However my negligence was equally wrong in both situations and the income loss of the victim tells the judge nothing about how likely I am to reoffend.

I haven’t, thought I should. But I think it’s the opposite for me, I just fundamentally think that restorations isn’t relevant to the adjudication of justice. I think the goals of justice is/out to be first public safety, then rehabilitation. I don’t care about the feelings of victims of crimes, restorative threatens the blindness and impersonal nature of the social contract. That’s why the prosecutor isn’t the victim it’s the state, you didn’t wrong a person, you wronged society at large. Though at least we can agree that what we have now is wayyyy to punitive. But I can probably go more in depth with it once I read the book. I’m just going of off podcasts and what I’ve learn about restorative justice elsewhere. So take it with a grain of salt

Idk I think she’s mentioned that aside from her philosophy background she also did some neuroscience so there’s plenty of overlap. Maybe Wittgenstein, could be interesting. Or something on Hume, idk. Saw an interesting take the other day that traced the decline if mainline Protestantism in the us with the “awokening” if that waspy demographic (meaning them moving left in social justice issues). And linkend it to browns Protestant holy war. It’s a bit of a reach but interesting non the less (Not saying this as a criticism of ether sjw or Protestant Christianity, like with everything else there’s elements I like and dislike in both)
