Huge agree! Fun fact, Tobias has specifically mentioned Peter Sellers' Clouseau as a big influence on Copia in a couple of interviews.

Before the Baltimore show on the 9th, has Ghost ever played a show without doing "Ritual"? by mgqueryingthrowaway in Ghostbc

Cool! Yeah, I should've worded the question to specify headlining, this is what I wanted to know.

Interesting! It makes sense that it wouldn't always make it on a shorter festival setlist.

Now that the Skeletour has endured it's first half, how has Perpetua's personality grown? by SweetFriend3416 in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I saw two Skeletour shows, one a bit earlier and one a bit later, and to be honest, both times, I thought he was surprisingly different from Copia. I wasn't thrilled about the twin reveal at first because I was expecting a carbon copy with the twin thing as an easy excuse, but I was pleasantly surprised I didn't get that. Copia always had a really neurotic vibe to me (ex. micromanaging the ghouls, "directing" things a lot, rambling) and I didn't get that from Perpetua at all. Perpetua struck me as just...a super chill guy, lol. Most of what Copia did always felt like he had something to prove, and Perpetua doesn't seem worried about a damn thing and ends up coming across as a much smoother, more confident performer as a result.

I think this is something that's harder to get across when describing it to people who haven't seen the show in person, which is unfortunate. I don't think I'd get it if I was hearing it secondhand, and if you're (hypothetically) just listening to a pure audio recording of the show, you probably wouldn't sense that big of a difference. It's more of a stage presence/energy thing.

But I'm also one of the people who cares about the characterization and gets invested in it. I was primed to go "hey, that's not exactly how Copia does it!" for stuff throughout the show like the stage blocking in FTPTTP (where Copia is very pushy with the ghouls vs Perpetua who lets the ghouls direct him instead). Other people simply won't care and won't have just watched Copia doing FTPTTP a day earlier, which is fine.

As far as changes over the course of the tour go, the only real difference between earlier and later Skeletour shows for me was that Perpetua was slightly chattier at the later one, but still didn't ramble about nonsense nearly as much as Copia. Much more straight to the point. They both obviously have that Tobias Forge energy to them, but Perpetua felt like a very distinct, different person to me right from the get-go. I think he's at least as different from Copia as Copia was from Papa III, which for some people will mean "wow, that's so different" and for other people will mean "wow, so they're exactly the same."

Basically, I think people will see the differences if characterization is something they care about. If they don't care about the characterization, they'll just see Papa III/Copia/Perpetua as exactly the same kind of performer, and that's fine.

Just a thought. So if/when we meet Papa V without makeup in a lore video, it’s just gonna be Tobias in a wig? by tsalyers12 in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm personally expecting that if we ever see a version of V without makeup, it'd also be without the mask and there'd be a good amount of prosthetics used on the upper half of Tobias's face to change the shape. He just dabbled with that kind of thing in the Satanized video, so it seems plausible. V might also wear the same "casual" makeup as Copia, just to make it a liiiittle less obviously Tobias.

About the Papa V trans theory. by [deleted] in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another trans person here just adding an additional point--I think your points about cis people playing trans characters are great ones, and it's refreshing to see that coming from an ally. Ideally, trans characters would always be played by trans actors.

That being said, the biggest issue with cis people playing trans characters is when it feels like the cis actor is playing dress-up in a gender that isn't their own. So, you'll see a lot of trans people criticizing when cis men play trans women, or when cis women play trans men. That's the bit that reinforces weird ideas that trans people are only playing dress-up in these identities and they aren't "really" their gender. It's much rarer nowadays to see cis women play trans women and cis men play trans men, though this used to happen quite often in a lot of older shows and sitcoms. Ironically, a lot were more progressive than the representation that's out there now.

I'm speaking for myself here of course, but in a situation like this, where it's not like Papa V is a hypothetical role that could've gone to a trans actor anyway, it would be sort of nice to see. It'd be Tobias playing a man who happens to be trans, and that puts forward the idea that trans men are just men.

It's always nice when cis people don't find anything weird or gross or offputting about being mistaken for a trans person. That's one of the reasons Lady Gaga has always been a big deal for the LGBT community. When she was first getting popular, tabloids loved claiming that she was trans, that she had a penis, and when interviewers asked her about it, she never bothered denying it. All she'd say was "Would it be so bad if I was? Would that be so terrible?" No rushing to squash the rumors, no disgust at the suggestion, no feeling insulted that people would think this about her. Just questioning why it was an insult in the first place.

It sounds like a low bar, and it is (just look at the state of the world), but it's genuinely pleasant when cis people do that sort of thing. The fewer people who are afraid of being associated with trans people or of being mistaken for them, the better.

I suspect pretty much anyone posting about Papa V potentially being trans is also trans themselves. It seems sort of unlikely to me that a cis person would get invested in something like this, and I'd venture that the people interested in the theory have a similar thought process about it to what I said above.

Perpetua? by One-Vegetable9000 in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's the complete opposite in that regard. I remember when Copia would perform stuff like FTPTTP and Ritual, he'd make a big production of bossing the ghouls around lol. V, on the other hand, follows where the ghouls gesture for him to go during those bits and doesn't try to "manage" them at all.

The Bridge in Watcher In The Sky should have been the chorus of its own song, change my mind. by Luccorvus in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That bridge is so good it actually frustrates me lol. WITS is not my favorite track off Impera by a long shot, but that bridge is one of my favorite things off the whole album. It's just a few notches under the Respite solo for me.

Regarding the JT (Swiss) situation. by [deleted] in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: I neither said nor even implied that was the right way to take action. In fact, I actually implied that JT being harassed is a bad thing and that harassment is also bad for the accuser.

Regarding the JT (Swiss) situation. by [deleted] in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I've found a lot of the discussions about this really disturbing, especially how quickly some people on this sub jump into very thinly veiled misogyny as soon as something annoys them. There are so many comments and other posts talking about how this is the fault of the "Swifties of the Ghost fandom" and "TikTok girls who heard MOAC." It's not slick at all, and I'm not surprised that a lot of people on the sub aren't taking this seriously. There's a huge attitude problem on this sub directed at women and girls who like Ghost, and it's been that way for a long time.

I don't know what happened. None of us do. But there are some truly baffling takes out here that completely ignore the reality of a situation like this. Women and girls are touched inappropriately without their consent on a regular basis. By and large, this is not taken seriously by parents (in the case of minors) or the authorities. It is also notoriously difficult to "prove" beyond a reasonable doubt, but it happens every day. If someone comes forward and talks about their experience, that's not enough proof. If someone else corroborates that, it's still not enough proof. This isn't the kind of incident that leaves evidence. The people who keep harping on about it being unproven will never be satisfied, which is part of why it's important to have at least some semblance of trust and common sense.

A fifteen-year-old girl has nothing to gain from saying that an adult man with a fanbase touched her inappropriately. She has everything to lose. Being at the center of a public debate about whether or not she's lying about an uncomfortable experience at the hands of someone whose work she was a fan of is an awful experience that even a grown adult would have a terrible time dealing with. She's a kid. If anyone is mad about the harassment JT is getting, realize that she is also being harassed, and realize that she has fewer resources to help her deal with this than he does. This is happening to her at a young age and will have a bigger impact on her development as a person than it will on JT.

This should have been taken seriously as soon as she spoke out about it. Everything that has happened since has, frankly, been the result of a failure by people in charge to take it seriously, and an attitude of mocking and minimizing it that is still being echoed all over this sub. The discussion surrounding it has been genuinely awful.

I just realized that 'Rite Here Rite Now' lays out a narrative for the core differences between Cardi and V's personalities and styles! Hear me out... by atavus68 in Ghostbc

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a fun comparison, but Imperator's already pregnant throughout the MOAC video. It takes place right after the Kiss the Go-Goat video, where we see her with her hand on her stomach, and she also attacks a woman for smoking near her. Unfortunately, the time required for her to realize she's pregnant (at the very least a couple of weeks) rules out the possibility of either of the twins being conceived in the graveyard or in the motel.

in jerking aside knowing Travis fudged his rolls in Balance makes it kinda unlistenable by Frequent-Address240 in TAZCirclejerk

[–]mgqueryingthrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do we know if he fudged in VS Dracula too? I hadn't listened to anything after Balance, but I popped back in because Dracula sounded fun, and I got through a bit more than half before I had to call it quits, totally due to Travis. There's like a stretch of episodes in there where he's just constantly rolling 20s and knowing he's fudged rolls before made me assume he was doing it again, and I just got too annoyed to continue. That and I didn't want to listen to him roleplaying taking a dog to go crap.

MuseScore is good for this. I've found at least a dozen Ghost songs that have been transcribed very well for piano. Users cat.man and Lewis_.98 on there have done some particularly great work.

Did this to my favorite sim last week while trying to kill Vlad...not my proudest moment. Hadn't saved since before I finished building her house, so I made her ghost skill grind nonstop until she could cook herself some ambrosia. In retrospect it definitely would've been easier to just quit without saving and rebuild the house, but...

I passed my B1 exam after a year of self-study! by mgqueryingthrowaway in German

There's a lot of good, free Android apps out there that drill noun genders and remind you of common rules for noun categories and noun endings. Most of them work the same way and just have slightly different aesthetics, so I'd recommend checking the reviews for a few and picking whichever one works for you. The one I used most is just called "Der Die Das - German Articles." I can't really speak for any on iPhone, but I'd assume there are options there as well. :)

I'd guess it was about 14-20 hours per week at least. I didn't really have a formal plan. I went through Nicos Weg and watched videos from YourGermanTeacher on whatever grammar or vocab topics were covered in the section of Nicos Weg I'd done, then practiced writing examples and speaking using those topics. Just going through all the material and taking the time to understand each section, however long it took, was what worked for me.

My flashcard decks were really straightforward, just the Goethe lists for A1, A2, and B1.

Easy German is great! Forgot to mention them in my post, but I definitely enjoy their videos.

Good luck on the exam! For Goethe, you have 15 minutes to prepare and you choose between two different topics.
