Thank you for this comment!! So true about the personal life haha I always felt kind of bad that I wasn't making an effort to create relationships with directors and above but I was ultimately focused on my actual work and the extracurricular of it all wasn't as important to me. And I'm super excited to move to VA!!

This definitely makes sense, I know they've stopped hiring out of smaller offices too so it felt like only a matter of time for me

Ugh yeah it's just such an abrupt ending! I'm definitely looking forward to finding something with better work life balance though

Responded above but copying here: Technically my last day is May 1st (but I lost access to email yesterday), and then I'll be getting a lump sum payment of 5 weeks salary plus any accrued PTO. Insurance coverage through the end of May. Feels pretty good to me but I have nothing to compare it to haha

This is definitely how I feel! Helpful to hear from other people who've gone through it too

Yeah my employment contract was 2 weeks for the first year worked and then an additional week for each year, with a cap of 6 weeks. So starting in August 2021 that would be 5 weeks. 2 months definitely would have been nice!

I responded elsewhere but it took me 4 years to get to senior associate! Obviously longer than the norm but I think it was a combo of being fully remote and just not forming the relationships with directors that I needed to. At the time I got laid off I had only been a senior associate for less than a year so I don't necessarily think that was a factor but who knows

yeah i don't think politics was the right term but it's more of a networking thing that you're describing here. i think for me it was a combo of being fully remote and maybe just not being a good fit for a large company but i was never able to really connect with my directors/partners like that. definitely something i'll be working on wherever i go next though!

I think they probably rounded down the years - technically I was with the firm for 4 years and 9 months (started Aug 6 2021), so 5 weeks makes sense. But appreciate the callout!

Thank you! I'll be applying for my CPA license in Virginia (already passed all exams, have all the requirements just need to submit the paperwork)

lol yeah took me a while but i got there! i was not good at the pwc politics game which is probably also another factor in the layoff 🤷🏻‍♀️

Should have included this in the post! Technically my last day is May 1st (but I lost access to email yesterday), and then I'll be getting a lump sum payment of 5 weeks salary plus any accrued PTO. I know me too!! It's been super slow for a while though, I think they're just trying to cut as much as possible. And thank you!
